O, My Stars (By Michael Hurley) Kiss me once, oh, kiss me twice Give me a taste of paradise I don't need the blues always on my shoulder They give me a cold feeling Getting colder O, my stars how you undo me O, my stars O, my stars You undo me The sun's going down and the sky different colors Mama run and see the different hues I feel alright but these times are bad Mama run here, help me with these blues {Repeat Chorus} You see that spider going up the wall? He going up there to get his ashes hauled He taking that trip along the mighty top He learning them ladies the old spider rock {Repeat Chorus}
Kiss me once, oh, kiss me twice Give me a taste of paradise I don't need the blues always on my shoulder They give me a cold feeling Getting colder O, my stars how you undo me O, my stars O, my stars You undo me The sun's going down and the sky different colors Baby run and see the different hues I feel alright but these times are bad Mama run here, help me with these blues O, my stars how you undo me O, my stars O, my stars You undo me You see that spider going up the wall? Really nicely arranged "polished" song by Hurley. I haven't seen him live since the late 70s, early 80s. Stampel and Weber were great also and the Unholy MRs . All of the above folks are an important part of, and extension of, the "folk scare" of the 1960s. My old band (late 70s-early 80s) used to describine HMR as "Acid hits Appalachia". All are an "acquired taste" that I'm glad that I acquired.;)
Hi there. A pal sang this around a campfire not long ago, a bunch of us jumped in on harmony... I'm not sure I hear the third verse well... I hear something like 'You see that spider going up the wall, goin up there, get his ashes haul. You takin that trip along the matchin top he learn them ladies, the whole spider run."... but this makes no sense. Thanks so much for posting this beauty of a song, do you know those words? Have a good one,
Probably my most favorite of many faves by Michael Hurley! It's the great Jill Gross on harmony vocals ... on of my fave duets ever!! She's worked with Michael on a few albums, as well as The Holy Modal Rounders, Jeffrey Frederick & is on the landmark "Have Moicy" album with all of the aforementioned. www.allmusic.com/artist/jill-gross-mn0001737808 www.allmusic.com/album/snockgrass-mw0000029443/credits
in my humble opinion, one of the sweetest songs of all time
O, My Stars (By Michael Hurley)
Kiss me once, oh, kiss me twice
Give me a taste of paradise
I don't need the blues always on my shoulder
They give me a cold feeling
Getting colder
O, my stars how you undo me
O, my stars
O, my stars
You undo me
The sun's going down and the sky different colors
Mama run and see the different hues
I feel alright but these times are bad
Mama run here, help me with these blues
{Repeat Chorus}
You see that spider going up the wall?
He going up there to get his ashes hauled
He taking that trip along the mighty top
He learning them ladies the old spider rock
{Repeat Chorus}
Kiss me once, oh, kiss me twice
Give me a taste of paradise
I don't need the blues always on my shoulder
They give me a cold feeling
Getting colder
O, my stars how you undo me
O, my stars
O, my stars
You undo me
The sun's going down and the sky different colors
Baby run and see the different hues
I feel alright but these times are bad
Mama run here, help me with these blues
O, my stars how you undo me
O, my stars
O, my stars
You undo me
You see that spider going up the wall?
He going up there to get his ashes hauled
He taking that trip along the mighty top
He learning them ladies the old spider rock
O, my stars how you undo me
O, my stars
O, my stars
You undo me

Would love to hear Michael again in Edinburgh.
17-6-18 at Summerhall. Get your ticket!
Oh. I never knew. I missed it :-(
Right on!
I love this! Who is singing harmony? and on pedal steel? Sadly I missed him when he was in Vermont last summer.
Gordon Stone on steel! I saw him in that lil church Paul, I only cried once.
Are you in Vermont Patrick? I love your "Sunset in Vergennes".
