Well Haylee…..my first smelt experience was in the ‘50’s before all the parades. I remember as a little tyke, my Dad brought me down to Park Point and we waited till very late. Finally two guys in waders took a net off shore and returned with one smelt fish in it. Another guy by the fire took the fish in his hand and held it over the fire, then bit the head off. At the time I was not familiar with drunken behavior and eating raw fish. Perhaps this was the beginning of sushi. Years later I embraced smelting by standing at the banks of Lester River with a dip net and a wash tub which we could fill in minutes when the run would begin around midnight to 1 am. They were a rich fish and after several meals, there was diminishing return. It got to the point that the cats didn’t even want to eat them anymore. The rest wound up as fertilizer.

yo- PBS North - Give this crew more resources and time to make this content. Your other stuff is good, but this stuff has more potential. Fund them now!

Thanks! A few of the other episodes of season two just received Regional Emmy Awards (John Beargrease, Tourist Traps and Mr. Magoo the Mongoose). We are currently filming season three!
