Anyone else completely shook over McDonald's UK's vegan menu? đ€Ż I just keep thinking of the sad burger bun smeared with ketchup & mustard with two pickle slices from Emma Chamberlain's video đ«
My friend and I usually get a McPlant every time we go see a band in London. I'll give the strawberry ice cream a go, just wish they did vanilla milkshakes too.
American vegans: "I wish McDonald's had a vegan option other than a bag of apples or apple pie."
UK vegans: "I appreciate their 4 entree options, 3 side options and 4 dessert options, I just wish there was one more dessert."
đđ you guys win!
well they have a mcvegan and mcplant - I heard there's falafel and curry or something in other countries (I can't fully remember). How lucky they are! I'd love to see mcdonald's turn to 'mcvegan'
@@TotallyForkable well I just wrote about how dallas doesn't support vegan initiatives on my website - so until the core cities support veganism and shun animal products (like ditching chik-fil-a for chickpeas) - it's going to be a long crawl. McDonald's doesn't mind going vegan - the problem's with the people - their customer demand - a.k.a. - society at large!
Yes that's true; the demand has to be there and maybe that's our main problem. The McPlant ran in the states for a limited time but unlike in the UK the whole thing wasn't vegan; you'd have to get it without cheese and mayo, whereas in the UK it's vegan as is (as I understand it).
That vegan hotdog story reminds me of Climax Blue Cheese being disqualified from the Good Food Awards because it wasn't dairy. Hilarious. Just when you thought the opposition was getting "creative", they're really just taking pages from the same desperate play book. Keep up all of your good work!
Such a good point; there's a common thread for sure. "If you can't beat 'em, ban 'em!"
I love your content! SNL and Plant Based News all mixed up in a fun snarky package.
This is the best compliment!! So glad you enjoy it! đ
The rope had me laughing.. đđđ this video has been very nicely done. Stories, editing and everything
Thank you so much!! And yes, once I remembered I had a tangle of twine in the garage, I knew I had to use it đđ€
This is my fave news program. Love the blazers and the production is well done.
Yeah, hope it takes off. I hope anybody that's vegan takes off, so I'm biased, but seems comparable to other channels I watch that have a lot more subscribers.
I'm so glad, Sinnamon!! đđ»
I really appreciate that!
†from Germany, you did quite well.
Sending love right back!! đ©đȘ
I don't consider Impossible foods vegan but it is nice that people are eating that instead of animals.
Why don't you consider them vegan?
Because they test on animals, market their foods with animal products such as real cheese and when they give out food as marketing they do it with non-vegan condiments like mayo, real cheese and non-vegan buns. They themselves don't see themselves as a vegan company and their target group is carnists so they are trying to appeal to them by not being vegan. They are capitalists and not vegan. They mostly play on environmentalism if anything.
So I just don't buy or eat them since I am vegan but I do want carnists to eat that instead of an animal.
@@KerstinMamma I'm also vegan but I enjoy Impossible stuff every once in a while, I'm just wondering if there's something about that brand that I should know.
I did reply, that was my second reply. Weirdly enough my first reply doesn't seem to show up. Can you se my longer reply.
Love your format, I found listening to you fun and interesting.
I can recommend Germany for Vegan food, been to Berlin and Munich, both have some lovely vegan cafes/ outlets and the food was delicious! đ€
Also THIS, nice and tasty đđ»
Thank you so much!! And yes, I definitely didn't mean to imply Germany has no good vegan food, just that I think of traditional German food as very non-vegan friendly (as with much of Western European and North American food). But I have heard amazing things about the vegan food scenes in Berlin and Munich!!
I love the news segments! Keep it up!
So glad you love them!! đ
What's interesting is Nathan's began selling vegan hot dogs in 2021. I can't post links, but try looking up Coney Island's Original Goes Vegan.
I thought I remembered that happening! I'd love to try a vegan Nathan's. Also can't wait to try the Impossible hot dog.
Interesting! So there's another layer of the story that, strangely, none of the articles I saw mentioned. Makes it make a bit more sense for them to call Impossible a "competitor." Still, why doesn't Nathan's have the vegan dogs a part of the competition; what a great way to promote them!
I poked around the menus of some Nathan's locations, and it appears the vegan hot dogs have been discontinued. If that's the case, it would explain why they didn't come up in the recent news stories.
That wouldn't surprise me, and would keep with the trend of fast food chains adding and then quickly discontinuing vegan meats đ
Love the news updates, especially when it consists of announcements that are good, on the whole, as your title suggests. I particularly like the Vegan Hate Law firm billboards as a form of outreach. It almost seems sorta like those on-campus "prove me wrong" signs, ala Earthling Ed, but done remotely, with a wider casting net. Lol Ultimately, I think the war on animal cruelty has to be won on the mindshare battlefield, above all else. As you suggest, humor is an excellent tactic to subvert anger/hostility and entice joe public to engage in civil discourse.
I totally agree with your points, and really like the concept of a "mindshare battlefield."
Great as always. I like the ad campaign. I wonder if anyone called it thinking it was legitimate.
I have to imagine yes! What I would give to hear those calls đ
I'm physically uncomfortable just looking at you, here in 98 degree/73% humidity Detroit. Really enjoyed this, because there was so much fun vegan campaign stuff. We have to appeal any way we can, and it's slowly working. Thanks for posting, and sending wishes that your household survives this Heat Dome nonsense with your sanity intact!
Thank you Tamara, glad you enjoyed the video, and sorry for the secondhand heatstroke đ« Somehow knowing it's called a "Heat Dome" makes it 10x worse đđ„”
it's supposed to be 100 where I live today. It was 100 the other day - people told me the plants I gave them died in the heat. My clothes sizzled. It was insane weather.
It's been absolutely insane here!
Nice video lass I enjoy these as it's usually all news to me, not something I'd come across in my day to day escapades. Fair play.đ±đ đ
I'm so glad to hear this; it's exactly what I strive for! đđ»

The way people play semantics with "milk" and various "meats" is comical. Like, are those some people raising hell about how peanuts are considered nuts and placed with all the other nuts (and not with the beans & whatnot)? Of course not. Plus, "meat" used to just mean food. If we want to play the etymology game, these Nathan folks would lose.
Exactly!! Also, I didn't know that about the word "meat;" I learned something new! And yes, the very nature of language is that it's constantly evolving to keep up with human evolution; hence the Oxford dictionary continuously adding new words.
LUL Deutschland , mein Herz in Flammen, Will dich lieben und verdammen. I got so excited over German news, whenever I travel there it feels like vegan heaven in comparison to North America.
I truly didn't mean to throw Germany under the bus, just meant that I don't think of traditional German food as vegan-friendly by nature (as with most European/North American cuisines). Apparently Berlin is the #1 vegan city in the world and I'd love to visit one day!! đ«¶đ»
This was the first video of yours I've seen. Loved it! Subscribed.
The hottest news in this list is that hot dogs are thought by "Mericans to contain actual meat.
What is next?
People swearing that marshmallows are meat?
A lot of marshmallows (at least here in UK) contain animal-based gelatine (delightfully made by boiling up the skeletons and tendons of animals and extracting the gel - yum!). So they kind of are meat. BTW I'm vegan so I was being sarcastic when I said 'yum'
@@aeh323 That was my point.đ
Americans: "We must preserve the sanctity of our pure, precious hot dogs."
The ingredients of the pure, precious hot dogs: MECHANICALLY SEPARATED CHICKEN, MECHANICALLY SEPARATED TURKEY, PORK, WATER, CORN SYRUP, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF SALT, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM DIACETATE, SODIUM BENZOATE, SODIUM ASCORBATE, FLAVOR, SODIUM NITRITE.

Berlin is a real safe space for vegans in Germany. If ever you decide travel to Germany :D
Yes I feel bad about my implied vegan German-phobia. Berlin is supposed to be the #1 vegan city in the world!! I hope to visit someday đ
@@TotallyForkable Loved the video btw! Looking forward to the next good vegan news roundup
I get that Germany doesn't sound like a perfect place for vegan vacation. But honestly, things have changed in a great way! It really depends on what kind of plantbased diet you follow. If you mostly eat fresh tropical fruits, it's not the best country for you. If you love fake meats, vegan candy, chocolates, whatever - it's probably one of the best countries for you. Whilst fast food restaurants offer vegan versions of their food, probably every single supermarket chain has a huge, gigantic variety of vegan products now. Vegan options are very, very easy to find these days because of vegan labels. Even if you go to a bigger event, like a festival for example, very often there are vegan options nowadays. You'd be surprised, in many ways it's an amazing country for vegans. Not that everything is perfect yet, but I think, Germany is ahead of many other western world countries. And Berlin is probably one of the capitals of veganism.

@@TotallyForkable I just watched the newest TMNT movie called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. It came out last year and I noticed there's a moment where you can partially see a bumper sticker that says "Go Vegan."
WOW, that's very interesting, and surprising!! I wonder who was behind that decision. Is the movie good?
@@TotallyForkable I'm 25 and I thought it was great, I loved TMNT when I was younger and I think they did a great job capturing what TMNT should be, but that's just my opinion obviously. Also the animation is super cool.
well what's it going to take to be plant-based around here?
Re: hot dogs....You must know that all hot dogs (except vegan) are made by "scraping the floor of a slaughterhouse" with the dead animal flesh leftovers like noses, stomachs, ears, eyes, feet, etc., all finely ground up and heavily seasoned and colored with preservatives added so that the garbage is now ready to stuff into casings and people will buy it. It's disgusting, yet it sells. Vegan HDs on the other hand use veggie ingredients with often the same seasoning so that they taste very similar to garbage HDs. Just try LiteLife veggie dogs...they're very good, far healthier and will replace the dead animal product if tried by non-vegans...and even Joey.
Plants are trying to kill you, eat meat.
I love the positivity.
Subbex!
Thank you so much, and welcome!
The irony is that hot dogs are actually useful. I don't think you should ever kill an animal or eat it, but if you are going to do it, you should use the entire thing and not throw out stuff needlessly. That's so much worse. Hot dog gives you a way to feed people with the stuff that would normally be thrown out.
Sure, they use most of the parts, but let's not pretend that comes from a noble/ethical/sustainable place. Like the entire animal agriculture complex, it's about maximizing profit. They are pushing group 1 carcinogens onto unsuspecting people just to make a few extra bucks off of tortured animals.
I don't get the whole issue by the nathan's company - they sell plant-based products like sauerkraut. What - they don't want people to eat plants? Are they wanting us to not eat hot dogs on buns? So just the hot dog only? Well I guess people will just stop buying their plant-based products and they might just sell only hot dogs. So I guess it's ok when they sell plant-based products, but not ok when others do - and they wonder why I stopped caring about their product a long time ago.
So true! Plants are okay ONLY in certain contexts, it would seem!
3:24. -hahaha

Shit your in NE!! I wanna collab with you someday if youâre up for that!
Hello, fellow New Englander!! đ
WOOL? Please reconsider your consumption of wool, even if it is "vintage" or secondhand. Sheep suffer greatly for this product and giving it value in the resale market contributes to its demand. I highly encourage you to look further into this issue and avoid promoting wool in any way, especially in a "good" vegan news video.
Hi--I have shared this before but you may have missed it. My collection of blazers that I wear for Good Vegan News are all secondhand passed down from my mom. I do not support the wool industry firsthand or condone supporting it; however for the secondhand market I don't personally think things are as black and white. As vegans we need to be mindful of the environmental toll of our clothing in addition to considering whether or not we are contributing firsthand to animal suffering. If it's a choice between wearing an inherited (or even secondhand purchased) item of clothing that contains animal byproducts OR buying a fast-fashion synthetic material new, I personally think the former is more environmentally conscious and ethical. I have many more thoughts on this, including something I recently learned about PETA's stance on the topic, that I will be sharing in my livestream this Friday from 4-6pm EST!
@@TotallyForkable Thank you for taking the time to reply. As an ethical vegan, the environmental argument does not justify the animal suffering for me. It is a fact that people buy wool sweaters and leather products for their longevity - the resale value is considered and used as a selling point for these goods. Sheep are often overlooked by environmental vegans for the reasons you stated, and the wool industry is growing as its environmental value is touted. The wool industry is no more kind or less horrifying than any other animal industry. As an ethical vegan I feel for the sheep suffering in the name of the environment.
@@TotallyForkable i look forward to the livestream
So fun, you're really good at this.
Thank you; so glad you enjoyed it!!
Youâre very funny
Thank you so much!!
Is it just me or is the whole idea behind gorging yourself with food in order to entertain people who find that worth watching for some reason to be disgusting? Let alone watching it!
It's perverse. I'd rather watch figure skating đ€Ł
Animal hotdogs have always been falsely labelled people, come on, it's clearly haggis! đ€Ą

Pretty sure impossible tests their products on rats, which would make them not vegan
Although this is a sometimes hotly debated topic in the vegan community, I think most vegans consider them to be vegan. They had to do a single round of testing on rats at the beginning for the ingredient heme iron. It was required of them if they wanted to sell in the US. It is of course horrible to think about that but I weigh that against the millions (possibly hundreds of millions?) of farm animals they have saved through people choosing their products.
This is AAA content.
Thank you so much!! đđ»
