    In our Carnatic system, there are very few musicians of Lalgudi's calibre. It's a brilliant recital of Brova Baaramma, but the whole concert is only about 40 min long. Lalgudi is a brilliant violinist, a great composer, interpreter, teacher, accompanist, soloist. His skill in laya is legendary. He is at home in 5 different languages. His discipline and commitment are unmatched. He is the king of masking complex music with bhava and melody. We can go on and on, but let's enjoy Brova Baaramma.

    I heard him first in 1959 in Coimbatore accompanying the great MMI! The great man was effusive in his praise after Lalgudi did a stunning accompaniment of Shanmukhapriya; "ennama vasikkerada - kuzhandai" & clapped from the dais. This was & is Lalgudi's greatness - pure Bliss in a western instrument bringing forth the best in what is essentially an Indian Carnatic Music environment. No doubt another greatest of western violinists, Yehudi Menuhin, presented Lalgudi after another stunning virtuoso performance!!

    In fact when I had no interest in or knowledge of carnatic music, I started listening to carnatic music, especially instrumental and instantly was attracted to Lalgudi, and now the God of Music is no more. May his soul rest in peace.

    Btw I've listened to everyone from Joseph Jochaim to Heifetz, Menuhin, to Joshua Bell to Hilary Hahn and all in between from Bach to Tchaikovsky to Mozart, Mendelssohn and Goldmark to Schoenberg in Western Classical violin. That system is totally different from Carnatic Music. Knowing carnatic makes it easier to appreciate any other system of music.

    one of the best violinist and mucisian in the world.. a legend indeed.. God bless his soul...
    but it is really sad to see people comenting bad about carnatic style music..
    i would say that music has no language.. no religion ... its like an ocean... there is no end to it... whether it is carnatic or hindustani or western or any music... as long as it is soothing...try to enjoy it... enjoy the music... enjoy the instrument... the way they play it... observe and enjoy... violin is not an easy instrument... mastering it requires hours of practice...whether it is western or carnatic... so apreciate it.. respect it.. love the music...
    Thank you...

    you make it sound so simple... playing a written score needs understanding, patience, dedication and discipline... and you can play anything in the name of improvisation and no body can point out a mistake in rendition or interpretation. easy way to fame, right?...

      Haha what a fool. Stay in your little bubble. You suffer from the very disease you accuse others of suffering - not being open minded enough to appreciate another system of music and culture and become richer for the experience. You embody everything that is wrong with the human condition and what art is not about. Pitiable

    • @raviramanujan715
      @raviramanujan715 Před 7 lety +2

      tchaikovsky's was a piece of shit. Yehudi Menuhin was willing to suck up to Indian violinists. He tried his hand in carnatic. Only to do with a bit paper like thirg grader. He played tchaikovsky's so well. That;s because that was 3rd rate music. Carnatic is beyond these christian idiots.
