Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Last night I, I saw you standing
And I started, started pretending
That I knew you, and you knew me too
And just like a Roni, you were too shy
But you weren't the only, 'cause so was I
And I dreamed of you ever since
Now I build up my confidence
Girl next, next time you come my way
I'll know just what to say...
[Chorus]
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
[Verse 2]
I started to write you letters
But I wanted to be more clever
I wanted to get down and sweet talk you
Hey, baby
But just like a baby, I could not talk
And I tried to come closer, but could not walk
And I think of it every night
How I just could not get it right! Oh!
If we ever come close again
I'll know what I'll say then, yeah
[Chorus]
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
[Bridge]
Oh, girl...
One more chance with you again
I will not let it go!
Oh, please! Give me just one more chance for love, love, love, love
[Chorus]
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk?
I wanna talk to my baby
Come on and talk to me baby
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?
Girl, I want to know your name
Can we talk?
Come on and talk to me baby
See I wanna know
You better tell me your name baby
Can we talk for a minute?
I wanna know, I wanna know
I want to know your name
Can we talk for a minute?

I work at a restaurant in downtown Chicago. This past Saturday I was working on the patio, and a car was waiting for a redlight, and his car was blasting this song. I'm not kidding that hearing this track legit changed the vibe on that patio for a hot minute! So many tables of customers were singing these lyrics and living in that precious moment! Thanks, Tevin!
Nice story. Gave me goosebumps. Thanks for sharing!

Because they sang from the beginning heart
Especially for us the black community we ruled the 90s from tv , music , movies , super models like what happened 😢

God really created 80s and 90s differently, no one can make music like this no more.
Ahhhhh this comment!
Cuz nothing is the same anymore. Not love, not family, way more stress lol
um...no, the 80s and 90s were awful as far as music. Computer inventions allowed sampling, lip syncing and straight up theft of music. I prefer music from the 1970s and before. That's when artists really did sing, that's when musicians really played and that's when an artist earned his paycheck and award - you didn't get an award or paycheck for sampling someone else's music! Etta James, James Brown and so many other talented artists and groups EARNED their paychecks and they gave concertgoers a show to remember. Now, you can have someone make one song and called himself or herself an 'artist'. Heavy sigh.
I miss that Era of music
So people didn’t have songs written for them back then ? Lol. Could’ve swore Motown literally started the writing farm blueprint
This was one of my father's favorite songs...he loved singing it to my mom. He sung this song for karaoke right before he passed away last year from cancer. We don’t have talented male R&B singers like him anymore. This song is R&B perfection and his voice is flawless 🔥
Exactly.
Truth is we don’t have talented and love filled producers and songwriters anymore, or at least the industry isn’t signing and promoting em.
@@PortiaShannon03 we do have them but TikTok and other social media platforms are literally spammed with ‘songs’ about having millions, f*cking bi*ches and smoking weed. Real talent and substance are not appreciated nor needed to make it big anymore. Female R&B singers are facing the same issues. It’s disappointing to see how amazingly talented ladies like Sevyn Streeter, Jazmine Sullivan and Tinashe are overlooked because their music is not all about shaking their fat booties, having big titties and a birkin.
I think part of the disparity is that a lot of those artists were literal children when the hits premiered. Now artists are hitting well after puberty so the ranges just aren’t possible

I still listen to 90's r&b, so this song was never forgetten for me. R&B has taken a dive down in the 2000's. It don't feel the same and some of these people can't really sing either.
