  • US naval officer Don Winslow is given command of the islands near Pearl Harbor. He discovers that there is a ring of saboteurs and enemy agents who are trying to destroy ships carrying supplies to the troops stationed in the islands and sabotage the war effort. He sets out with his trusted assistant and two beautiful women to find the mastermind behind these nefarious activities.
Don Winslow Of The Navy began as an almost official comic strip. It was written by a navy man Commander Frank Martinek and it was actually something the navy used as a recruiting tool. Don and Red remind me of Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino. In fact this whole serial reminds me of Pacific Vortex.

I think that sailor drinking the Boiler Maker’s in the old Navy training film Smart Boy turned down meeting a nice girl in favor of possibly meeting Kokloco the The Woman King of Fantasy Island. I wonder why they call that diabolical deviant The Scorpion ? Sounds like the kinda name they would give a guy

"Commander Winslow has scored four torpedo hits." (U.S. Navy torpedoes in 1942 did everything but sink enemy ships.;( "CINCUS" was changed as World War II in the Pacific progressed; "Sink us" happened a lot in 1942. "Tangita, an island near Pearl Harbor"? 6:52 No such island so named is in the Pacific ocean. 9:32 That's a really big undersea base. (Gold mine? On Pacific volcanic islands?) I remember "The 620" in the films; I recall that most ships were referred to by code names or official ship names (Such as "U.S.S. Honolulu.") not ship number. The Human Torpedo looks pretty roomy for World War II. Also, that "Navy base" had next-to-no security that allowed the radio to be shot out by ONE suspicious man. Oh well, Reality in the Pacific theater in 1942 was pretty gloomy.

I wonder why the navy people are using .38 revolvers in 1942?? The US navy adopted the 1911 .45 ACP in 1913 or so.

“Only in a movie.” As my Dad USMC said.

OBVIOUSLY, it's because the revolvers can fire 25 times without reloading.
