- The Line 6 POD Express Bass allows you to practice, record, and gig with a single device.
Get the Line 6 POD Express Bass from Sweetwater: sweetwater.sjv.io/PodExpressBass (affiliate link)
Jam along to tracks so you can nail rehearsal, connect it to your computer to use as an audio interface, and send it straight to the board at gigs.
And yes, you can absolutely gig with the Line 6 POD Express Bass. It boasts 21 onboard presets that you can access with the tap of a footswitch, and you can even add up to two external footswitches that can turn your desired effects on and off. Or, you can add a volume pedal AND a footswitch.
The versatility of the Line 6 POD Express Bass is impressive as-is, but what's most impressive is the price.
It's $179.99.
Similar tools either aren't gig-friendly-the bulk of them being existing pretty squarely for the sole purpose of practice-or significantly more expensive.
Of course, the Line 6 POD Express Bass doesn't have all the effects and signal chain flexibility of an HX Stomp or POD Go, but it's a compact solution that's ideal for everyone from newer bassists to experienced pros looking for the world's most compact fly rig.

The Line 6 POD Express Bass was recorded direction into a Tascam Portacapture X8. The audio was uploaded directly into Adobe Premiere Pro for editing. The only post-production was gentle audio leveling.
You can also buy from Amazon if you'd like: amzn.to/435J14s (affiliate link) though I highly prefer Reverb.com.

This is the best demo of this particular pedal that I have seen. So good!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome playing and great demo! I’m thinking of purchasing a bass and this unit will definitely enhance my experience
Thanks for the kind words! Let me know if you pick one up and how you like it. Of course, no pressure, but I do have an affiliate link in the video description if you were already planning on purchasing from Sweetwater.
Nice! I might have to pick one up. Loving that sparkle bass.
If you do, please consider using my affiliate link. No pressure!
This is a great demo of the pedal! This actually explains how to use it!
A fantastic, very comprehensive review of this pedal. Some great features on it for the money. Well done.
Glad you liked it!
I watched line 6’s actual CZcams bass release video and your video goes way more in depth. I own a sans amp and i think it doesn’t sound like it at all, but I’ll definitely buy it for the other amp simulators.
Oh My GAWD thats alotta cool stuff in a tiny space !
Great review. Love to see you having fun with the bass.
Hello from Brazil!!!
Thanks so much!
Great demo! I was pleasantly surprised at that price point!
You and me both!
Omg I love your sparkly bass!
Thanks so much! I have a whole video about the whole...ordeal involving it, haha.
Again thanks for these very informative and helpfull reviews ,,your awesome 😊
Enjoyed the demo. RAWK 🤘🏼
Thanks so much!
Really cool video. Amazing how they managed to get all that stuff in a little box.
Right?!
Damn your Bass is sick! Thanks for a great review. Keep on rocking
Great demo! Love your approach, all about the gear. I feel I know that little bass gizmo now.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome demo Emily! That bass tho…. that purple finish totally pops! so sparkly!!! 👍😀
Thanks so much!
Thanks for your time with this video
My pleasure
Great demo! They are going to sell soooooooo many of these!
I think you're right! And I hope at least some of them use my affiliate link 😬
Nice review - thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great review! Thanks! ❤❤🎉🎉😊😊😊😊😊 Imma pick this up shortly!
Hope you enjoy it!
Great demo. Hopefully mine will be delivered today.
Hope you enjoy it!
Sold, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
This was great! Thank you
I have been going through the review on this, and like it a lot. I do wish it was able to have a mod affect alongside a reverb or delay.
Great review. Subbed.
Thanks for the sub!
FANTASTIC demo!!! This looks like so much fun! I definitely see this as having something for everyone, so it should be a slam dunk for Line 6. That price point is crazy for the quality of sound and features!
I think so too!
Hello Emily.
Great video review of this pedal, it seems like an "all in one" with great features. You can notice the great quality of the sounds, I don't like the fact that it's made of plastic.
Thank you for sharing and your work with this video.
Greetings from Spain 🇪🇦
Thanks for watching!
Do you expect a $180 pedal to be made of titanium? C'mon man.
@@zedd1976Thanks for the comment 🎛️👍🏻
Cool demo! I heard the boost and thought it sounded nice. Then you said ep booster, which I like to use to drive bass :)
And then the sansamp!!! :DD
Great review. ❤❤
Hey there, Emily.
A quick question for you.
Do you know if the bypass on this pedal is a true bypass or buffered?
Nice review, by the way! Very thorough.
Cheers!
This is extremely impressive!
I’m sure Pedalnetics is working on some svelt footswitch accessories for this product line. Such a killer little pocket rig. I’m a Helix power user and I am absolutely going to buy this thing when budget allows.
Great Video!
Thanks!
Super useful and honest review, thanks a lot lady ! +1 sub 🤟 Cheers
Awesome, thank you!
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day also what is your favorite season ❤😊
Good review
Glad you think so!
Sparkle Bass for the win !
It's so handsome, isn't it!
What a great demo! Talking, but playing. A great description.
Glad you liked it!
The synth mode tracks better with a bridge pick up for definition, with a middle or neck pick up it will start to break more easily. POD have always put clever budget pedals. Thanks for your demo.
Thanks for the tips!
Awesome demo 😎🎸🤘🏻 this multi-effects pedal sounds pretty cool. The amp models sounded great. I personally like the grit, vintage, punch, and modern amp models. I like the distortion effects, but I am disappointed about the distortion model. I would have expected to be modeled after a high gained distortion effect like the mxr m80 bass d.i plus or a darkglass b3k microtubes. I also like the modulation effects. I personally like the chorus and flanger effects. The compressors sound nice and the synth effects sound fun. I normally don’t use synth effects live, but I would use it for experimental Recordings. Overall, this is a great multi-effects pedal.
Great demo, enjoyed it, good to see a more hands on demo rather that all talk. Like the pedal concept !!
Glad you liked it!
A tuner that can actually register low enough to tune a bass is a good thing on its own :) (I jest). I love the idea of these.
Haha, right? And I think I might've been tuned down a half step!
Great video! You think you could do another explaining how to connect and use the footswitches with the pedal?
I might do a short about that, but my calendar is pretty packed, which would make it tough to get a full video out for the footswitches. Perfecto de Castro might have covered that in a video, though.
But it's pretty simple to set up. I'd have to look at the manual again, but you enter global settings, turn the amp knob to the last and second-to-last circle segments (iirc, please double check before doing that) and press the amp knob until the color of that segment matches the effect bank you want to turn on or off.
The only downside is that it IS a global setting, so that's how it'll work for all presets. Personally, I'm most likely to toggle gain on and off, so that's what I'd have it control, along with synth.
@@GetOffset Thanks a lot! Might have to get this as a simple jam rig one day!
Who modded your Bronco? I love it!
I may get this. I have the HX Stomp and the HX One but nothing from POD. May selly ampeg SGT DI. Thanks for sharing
It's pretty impressive! I shouldn't be surprised it sounds good since it's the HX sounds, but it's super intuitive.
To quote Pippin: “I’m getting one.”
Hope you like it! No pressure, but if you like ordering from Sweetwater, I do have an affiliate link in the video description: sweetwater.sjv.io/PodExpressBass
Wonderful video! Perfect timing I was just looking at purchasing a few pedals, instead I can get this pedal for a fraction of the price.
Glad it was helpful!
I think I would actually buy one of these for guitar, use it for recording bass tracks standalone, and then turn off the amp sims and set up the compressor, octave to be additional pre-effects for the guitar one.
Thank you
You're welcome
just ordered a mcnelly for my bronco been really hard to find someone actually playing. def seems like i made the right move!
I love it! Did you see the video of the bronco rebuild I did?
Nice demo. I have a whole pedalboard so it's not for me but at that price point, I wouldn't be surprised if this got recommended a lot.
My alpha omicron cost almost twice as much as this...
Gigantic!
That's really great BUT, for the enveloppe filter i would prefer a Q-tron over a Mutron. Great demo, thanks !
Fair enough!
"Gigantic Gigantic!!!" You Rock and want you to know you are appreciated.👍
I appreciate that!
Interesting little gizmo, it will be interesting to watch how well it sells.
I hope it sells really well and that lots of people use my affiliate links, lol
@GetOffset you need a Stringjoy affiliate link.
Oh wow, I don't have one, no. I should ask Blake about that. This has Stringjoys on it.@@sassycat
Very nice review!
Stereo unbalanced outs pretty much tells me that bass is more of an afterthought. Clearly guitar was how they prioritized the features and then they figured they might as well make some money from bass players.
No bassists use stereo but if they had made the out balanced (or even put XLR) it would be a great solution for gigging. Being unbalanced forces you to use a DI. A bit of a missed opportunity.
none? ever try Ric o sound???
@@flogginga_dead_horse4022 you're right, only a Sith deals in absolutes. Let's say about 0.01% of bassists go stereo?
You def have to play to the synth effects, single notes and really clean attack, flats are the best, rounds products high harmonics that effect the tracking.
Ah, flats probably would be helpful!
Does Playing LINE 6 POD make anyone else really happy?
LINE 6 POD is quickly becoming my favorite pedal. It's just so beautiful and sexy. Practically free and the second you drop her on the board that chill ass mofo gives you a Rich Dark Gushing Robust tone.. And you also get this cute little 1/1 feedback response usually too harmless to be forgotten.
But more than that, the Line 6 Pod is just so positively alluring. It comes on the board like "do you want to cast a spell?" and I'm like "yeah Line 6 Pod i do want to cast a spell let's do this shit" and when she attacks she's like "SPELLS ARE FUN" and I'm like "yeah they are SO FUN." She doesn't say some bullshit macho shit like "I will destroy you" she's just like "nah spells are fun and voodoo spooky.” And she looks so happy. I mean this is an inanimate object that literally brought my guitar to life by magic. It understands it's life is a temporary magical gift and the dude is just fucking loving it. I mean just look at her face she’s just so happy and cute as a button.
I am literally never sad when Line 6 Pod is on board. IDK if she's gonna ever make it into the pedal HOF or not, but for now she a super dope chill pedal.
very nice
How does it handle jam-track playback as you indicated in the intro?
Via USB-C
Aside from being plastic this is quite impressive.I could have saved thousands on all the pedals I have amassed.
I wonder if it would've put it over $200 to make it an aluminum enclosure. But man, plastic gives me a lot of anxiety.
@@GetOffset I'd go for that. If it's just for home recording it probably doesn't matter, but gigging?
How do you cycle through the presets, and how do you save your own presets? Thanks
I cover that at 20:48 for ya
Oops I just got to the part in the video where you showed that. My bad.
You didn't even mention that it runs on three AA batteries! Perfect for busking
I just received my express bass today. My only issue is that the presets are difficult to find using the footswitch. Basically, I can go from preset 1 through preset 21 but I don't see any visual confirmation that you actually locked in on the one you want. Just hoping you are counting footswitch clicks to go from preset to preset. Do you know of a better way? I am playing with it tomorrow but only using 4 presets using 1-4. I hate to think about what I would do if I needed a 5th preset and it was preset number 20. I'm sure I would lose count. Any ideas?
The LEDs around the amp wheel should light up 1-7 on each bank. Tap bypass once to lock in. Let me know if that works.
@@GetOffset Thanks so much for responding. I used the new pedal for our worship service this morning and it did it's job. I can certainly change the presets with the pedal while playing live like you say above. However, if I use the FS3 and FS4 switch programmed to "select the previous preset" or "select the next preset", it will definitely move you from one preset to the next or previous, but you don't have any visual thing that happens to give you confidence you ended up on the right preset. So I am thinking that I may want to create a couple of presets that work for most things and use FS3 and FS4 for enabling/disabling "distortion" and "modulation/delay". I figure I will always use a compressor but less likely to use "synth" anyway. Then have the fs3 and fs4 switches on the floor and maybe the pedal on a music stand to make tweaking easier. You could also still use a volume pedal by putting it in line with the PA or amp. BTW, I have watched every video on this pedal I can find. Yours is by far the best and you made it look very simple. Any thoughts? BTW, I sold 5 pedals on Reverb after what I saw this could do and I have no regrets.
Does it have a blend option? Option to blend the affected signal with the dry clean sound? If not, that’s a real shame.
It doesn't as far as I can tell
@@GetOffset ok thx a lot
Great demo! Also, thanks for the band name idea : "Smarty Marty & the Farty Monophics"
Hahaha! You bet!
@@GetOffset I can spell....I can't type....LOL
Great "NORMAL" review...awesome
Thanks for watching!
Hi, can you use a boss footswitch with this
I've heard that the boss FS6 works well, but I don't have one. According to the manual, any non-latching switch should work.
Found your channel bc you have one of the only bass only so far. Where have you been hiding?
Buried under a Jazzmaster
If Line 6 had added a Pitch Shifter to this I'd snap one up in an instant. However, without one, it can't replace my Zoom B1 Four, sadly.
(With a Pitch Shifter it would be the perfect fly rig in terms of form factor, ease of use, battery operation, availability dual outputs.)
Unrelated, but the catalyst amps have a few pitch effects and they're surprisingly good.
@@GetOffset Many thanks for the tip, I will check them out. EDIT: so I checked them out, and the fact that the pitch shifter is available electronically possibly means Line 6 COULD have added Pitch Shift to the POD Express Bass. How I wish they had! Maybe when V2 comes out in 4 years from now :)
Can you bypass the cab-sim and just use the effects? 🙂
Yep! you just turn the amp off completely by turning the amp dial a full rotation or until there are no indicator lights on the "amp" section.
Can u load IRs?
Currently, I don't believe so. I don't know what will be possible in the future.
Could you use this on a 6 string electric guitar?
Yes, but there's also a guitar version!
Anyway to confirm if these is the same tech as the Helix?
Yes, their ported a handful of helix amps/cabs/effects into a little pedal
I wish they added a DI to the bass version, that would have been perfect!
Like a clean DI in addition to the effected signal?
@@GetOffset no, I meant a DI circuit to get a balanced XLR output. I'm playing though a DI box like 95% of the time, so a DI circuit on this would have been a simple method to add effects to my setup. I don't think it would need an additional clean DI signal/output if the clean digital settings were clean enough.
ah yeah, I gotcha. I know people ask for that kind of feature a lot, but I wonder if it would add to the cost in a meaningful way. For this, specifically, I'd take the lower price and just use one of the venue DI boxes or my own. I kinda feel the same about the Strymon Iridium. @@pellabandgeek
Actually you can have octave up. Play the octave higher, the low octave will track better also.
I am baffled that L6 does not allow some adjustment for the active to be 1 up and the strings to be tighter for triggering rather than swelling like it does stock - that is really a red flag for me since they allow so many other adjustments on this thing.
Are the distortions really that muddy? Unfortunate
I bet you could tighten them up with some amp adjustments, but the distortions were not my favorite part of the pod express bass.
The only problem I have with this demo is there's not even enough variety of playing styles employed.
I dunno, I'm just one person who primarily plays with rock bands ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So Strange how NDA's and launch dates are always on a Tuesday in the Guitar World.
It's just a good day to announce stuff, I guess!
I was told as a kid that Tuesday were the days stores restocked, that’s why people always released on Tuesday. But who knows anymore lol.
@@JeremyLeech My Subscription Feed: 20+ Fender 70th Anniversary and Line6 POD Express videos. Tell me these products launched today without telling me they launched today
For me the real downside is the lack of a DI out.
I dunno, I'll take a reduced price and just use a DI box ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ma quanto parla questa?
Tanto como lo necesitaba.
Only clicked because I see a Bronco bass.
I like everything except Growl... Growl doesn't sounds like growl to me.
It wasn't my favorite, either, but I've seen some people say that they really dig that sound.
…and it lacks midi. sadly. what an omission, please dort give me no „its meant for beginners“. no midi sync makes the looper and delays useless in my rig. as a beginner midi didnt confuse me on the m5. product ceipplimg. sad.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
it's $179
@@flogginga_dead_horse4022 this is what I keep saying lol
@@GetOffset It should really come with midi, DI, and 800 watt amp for this price 🤡
@@flogginga_dead_horse4022 so what? it lacks midi. sad.
Are you Ozzy's daughter?
No, their names are Kelly and Aimee. My name is Emily.
Dammit - I thought I was done buying gear. *sob*
Been there...
Bad tuner. How can you say its a good tuner...you cannot see the Note
It's perfectly fine for top off tuning.
Hahaha this video is a great walkthrough except that you played pick all the way through 😀😀😀 Davie504 would be so mad 🤣
Davie504 can...never mind
As Stu Hamm once answered the question whether it is allowed to play bass with a pick:
"The richest bassist plays pick: Sir Paul McCartney. Debate settled."
If you're a real bass player you should use everything. Fingers, pick, elbows, everything.
This ain’t about him.
That's better than a slapsperg slapping all through it.
What if you told me? I already knew, that's why I searched for these kinds of video. What do you actually want? Who are you working for?
Good Grief,, plug straight into amp. Adjust your bass,, adjust your amp….done !!
