      No she didn’t do well…..Use a circular transparent ball marker to see if white goes past it to pot the red, or not quite as demonstrative or accurately good….hold the black before rocking down towards cushion, as Neil said on coms, and do same thing. This was as Alan McManus said in commentary. The refs earn their dues over situations like this. I think Stuart Bingham ought to have got involved there to help rectify the situation. Obviously ceding to Ronnie trust so good on Stuart but to get involved could have helped the situation.

    O'Sullivan offered a different perspective on the event: "To be honest with you, some of the refs, I think they've got it in for me, so I just wanted to prove to her that she got it wrong.
    "I didn't feel good about potting the ball after that, but I just wanted to make the point. The point was made. I'm not that hungry to win it in that way, so once the principle's been made I can sleep at night."
    What was that about sportsmanship? Maybe people could stop their arse kissing and call him out on pathetic bullying behaviour.

    • @ianboyle1026
      @ianboyle1026 Před měsícem +2

      The principle of sportsmanship is summed up in "I can sleep at night". In other words, he has a conscience about the truth of the game. Leaving aside the issue of referees, he clearly saw it as an unfair advantage to him, if the referee's re-spotting wasn't accurate. He's done it before. In a match against Murphy a few years ago, he disputed the referee's judgement of a free ball, when the free ball was to his advantage. That time it was eventually demonstrated that the ref's judgement was correct, and Ronnie potted the free ball and won the frame. On that occasion, Murphy took the opposite position -- i.e., he sided with the referee -- so each player was arguing against himself, despite their personal dislike of each other, for the sake of the game's integrity.

    • @searchterminatorseed2301

    • @ianboyle1026
      @ianboyle1026 Před měsícem +2

      @@searchterminatorseed2301 It's not actually relevant to the question of "sportsmanship". Sportsmanship in any sport is almost always about the player's relationship with their opponents, not what they think of the referee/umpire. (Note, too, that Bingham showed similar sportsmanship in leaving Ronnie to make a fair decision.) And questioning officials' competence is part of virtually every sport. It's rarer in snooker than some sports, for various reasons, but snooker refs do make mistakes, sometimes howlers, and the players are entitled to question them. Ronnie has had specific problems with a few refs over the years, and in almost all cases that I've seen, he's been right. Whether he is in this case, I can't say, but it doesn't actually matter in regard to the incident in question. The black clearly wouldn't stay on its spot -- it either rocked north or south -- and that had a material effect on the outcome, giving Ronnie an advantage that he couldn't live with.

    • @searchterminatorseed2301
      @searchterminatorseed2301 Před měsícem +4

      @@ianboyle1026 he didn’t question her competency, he questioned her (and refs in general) integrity. There’s a big difference. So let me rephrase it, do you think questioning a referees integrity (with no basis) - halfway through a match - reflects well on a professional snooker players character? Context is everything and his demeanour and accusations towards this referee and others are quite pathetic actually.

    • @ianboyle1026
      @ianboyle1026 Před měsícem +1

      @@searchterminatorseed2301 What did he do/say that was so egregious? He told her to "chill" when the audience movement issue happened, and she replied as good as she got without any further problems, and everyone's set their hair on fire over it. Seems to me the internet is carrying on like snowflakes on her behalf over f-all. She's a big girl, let her deal. He has a track record of complaining about what he sees as poor refereeing, and I suspect he's annoyed a few of them over the years, but he's usually right. And there's one or two who tend to get their backs up very quickly when they're questioned on decisions.
      Now, as far as questioning a ref's integrity "with no basis", presumably he feels there is a basis. He may be right or wrong, but he's entitled to ask the question. He didn't actually raise the question of the ref's integrity during the match, as far as I know -- just her competence in officiating.
      And once again, I will reiterate that it has nothing whatever to do with the "sportsmanship" question, which is between Ronnie, his opponent, and the physical truth of the position.
      Personally I think the referee needed to try to do something about the spot, given that it clearly wasn't functioning properly. Someone here has suggested she perhaps could have used another ball as a hammer, which might have been worth a try.
