I think Tugboat Willy that your video's on CZcams are some of the best in the world. And I am not just saying that. I mean it. I was in the Marine Corps for a while. But I grew up in the Northwest. I am actually from Bremerton Washington. But I live here in N.C now. So not far from ya. I am truly liking how you just moved the Mic it sounds great to me Sir.
Dirt sailor here (Navy Seabees). Appreciate all your videos as well as the tour. Thanks for walking us through everything. Couple of comments, maybe throw up a map or something showing your route out the channels and consider asking someone with a drone to shoot some footage. Not sure if a drone shot would be allowed but it would make for some great shot in help explaining what you are doing. Great channel from a new subscriber!
New to the channel love your videos. Maybe in a different place in time I would have enjoyed this work. Retired now but I enjoy learning about this way of life. Great job !
New subscriber. I live in the uk Manchester England. I live on a narrowboat on the bridgewater canal. I really enjoy your channel and look forward to more great tug videos 👌
Amazing how small the anchors look on those huge ships! Willy, all of the complainers about the mic swinging, sound differences, etc,. - don't let the naysayers bring you down. I, for one, like your videos with or without mic swinging, sound differences, etc....
Thanks for the videos. It's a look into a job that most people will ever experience. I drove car hauling truck for 10 years, some out of Newark, and some out of Dundalk Md. I think that I'd rather have done 10 years on a tug.
oh no we can't hear the boat noises now haha dammit! I prefer the old setup when it was maximum cavitation and engine noise but i'm sure it's difficult to balance
Capt, I have my young sons (12 and 10) watch your videos. They would love to know more about the controls in the house. I’m a old timer Z drive just came out when I got out.
You guys don’t do much backwards work? Just curious… I run a SAE z-drive in Puget Sound (Tacoma). Interesting to see what you guys do out east. Car ships are our bread and butter. 😎 We’re either CLF/CLA mostly. I head back to work next Thursday for my two weeks…. It’s an awesome job! Enjoy! Cheers. 🍻
More newbie questions. You came on and said what you were going to do with the ship. How did you know that? What tells you specifically what the job entails? You explained the 1/3 1/2 etc. 1/3 of what? Can we also talk costs? What is market price for a job like this one. Who do you bill for it?
I can’t really get into the cost because that’s out of my wheelhouse but 1/3 of full power 1/2 of full power and so on. 1800 RPM is full power clutch runs 650 RPM. I hope that helps. Also we do these ships a lot so you kind of know what you are going to do but the pilot on the ship actually tells you.
I just subscribed, really like this content but is it possible to do more explaining, such as 1650-1810? What does that mean? Great job!!! Ya gotta love those joystick controls, beats the olden day, fer sure. Ron
Doing a good job there! did you start in what I would call conventional fixed screw/s and rudder tugs? I worked with a lad that managed to get a job over there working in tugs, can't recall if it was Mac or Moran he went to work for. Such a lovely thing to have control of slacking away the tow rope from your end.
That seemed like a much easier job than some you have shown us. Just curious, do you ever get uneasy about being under such mega sized equipment? I noticed at several points, the ships anchor was directly over your bow and looked to be really close to the wheelhouse.
It was a tight fit but we make sure to check it before the job. Always have to do your homework. It still makes you pucker up a little. Thanks for watching 🤙
So how do you guys get assigned a tow? I know there’s several tow boat companies so does it run off contracts with different boats or is it whoever is available or is it a rotation that the port authority assign. Also was curious about the horse power the tug puts out. I know some of them tugs are beasts. Anyway love the content keep killing it have a kick ass day!
Greetings from West Michigan. I watch MarineTraffic for lakers to photograph and now check New York to see what the McAllister tugs are up to. Do you rotate what tug you captain, or are you always on the Brian?
@@tugboatwilly843 are you able to explain what the two radios are used for? I gather that right hand radio is for tug to tug and pilot communications. Curious what the other is for. Love the Captain POV videos you do.
I dont give a shit about the mike, iwhat i give shit about is the sound off the engines, i could her you fine before, What do do you think about the voith schneider system of propulsion,it looks complicated to me. Btw thank you for the videos
More engine noise please! I love when you give it full power and everything starts shaking.
Same!
@@tugboatwilly843 I agree with @doupils6823! Love me some ear massage! Great being able to hear you better though!
Legitimately some of the best content on CZcams!
Much appreciated 🫡
Love your videos Willy!
Much appreciated 🤙
i like that you leave all the radio chatter, love your vids continue your work
Now I am thinking of switching ambitions and becoming a tug captain instead. It honestly seems really fun. Keep up the content, I love it!
Thank ya! 🫡
Nice!! Can’t wait for the next!
I really like to be able to hear the commentarys clearly andn I´m sure, given time, the balance between engine noise and talk will be perfect.
New subscriber! Thank you for these POVs.
Thanks for watching!

I will make a more in depth video on the wheelhouse for them. That’s really cool you are getting them into it early! Thanks for watching 🫡
Sorry to say but ya gonna have to do some audio mixing, new mic killed the HorsePower music.
Hi! You have a great job

We really don’t do all that much backwards work. Every now and then we will pull a big one out. Thanks for watching Capt! Much appreciated 🫡
Btw I would definitely buy a Tugboat Willy tee shirt if you ever decide to sell them

Yes more engine noise would sound great 👍

Thank ya! I did start on twin screw boats and worked my way onto this one. Thanks for watching! 🤙
using the force a lot in this one!!
🙌
Maybe you can finish your tour of the engine room sometime..
Tip to take the content to the next level try and set up multiply camera's inside and outside your vessel gives the viewer a clearer perspective!

...you guys need a flexible-semi rigid mic! That swinger will take out an eye someday!! LOL!
🤣😂🤣
Forgive my ignorance, but is it the pilot on board the ship who is calling out the commands for the tugs?
Yes sir that’s correct. Thanks for watching!

You have a kick ass day! Thanks for watching! It’s all contracts and this tug is just under 7000hp
Another good one Cap'n! Welcome back to the boat! Can you expound on 16:50, 18:10 please? Is that RPM or time?
Thank ya! That was the times for the job
I can not believe you don't use a hands-free radio.
Greetings from West Michigan. I watch MarineTraffic for lakers to photograph and now check New York to see what the McAllister tugs are up to. Do you rotate what tug you captain, or are you always on the Brian?
Good morning ☀️ Always on the Brian every other 2 weeks. Thanks for watching!
hi there is your tug a shaft drive or pod drive ?
Good morning! Pod. Thanks for watching!
1650, 1810 tell us what it means for us layman's
Probably the start and finish times for that job they did
Exactly 🤙 thanks for watching guys!
Also, that’s Military Time for 4:50pm to 6:10pm
Nice work how about a headset mic that would help
🫡
@Tugboat Willy afternoon capt just wondering what is the bollard pull on the tug pls?
90 tons. Thanks for watching! 🤙
How many radios do you have in the bridge and how many are you listening to at the same time?
Just the 2 and I try my best to listen to them both. Thanks for watching!
@@tugboatwilly843 are you able to explain what the two radios are used for? I gather that right hand radio is for tug to tug and pilot communications. Curious what the other is for. Love the Captain POV videos you do.
How close are the car ship anchors to the tug windows?
Pretty close. Before jobs like that we check and make sure we fit. Some we don’t. Thanks again 🫡
can a big guy be a deck hand or do you need to be able to do pull-ups to get up and over things?
I big guy can definitely do it. You will have to climb over some things and be able to throw a decent size line. Thanks for watching! 🤙
@@tugboatwilly843 can you explain climb over some things?
The swinging Mike doesn’t bother me
Why thank you sir! It doesn’t bother me either
It would be nice if you could provide just a little more narration for those of us who are novices
Thanks for watching and I’ll definitely try and be more informative about what is going on. Much appreciated 🫡
Why don't you make fast center forward? Wouldn't that be quicker and safer?
Honestly on car ships I feel the line gets in the way more. Thanks for watching!
@@tugboatwilly843 thanks for the reply, I meant instead of pushing on the bow, why not make fast center fore and pull on the line.
Will,
Is it the pilot or another tug giving you your commands?
The pilot. Thanks for watching!
@@tugboatwilly843
More like, thanks for the channel!
No kitty sound this time 😢😢😢
boat is too quiet 🙃
How much money do these guys make? 200-300K?
so are you talking to the pilot or the other tug?
Pilot. Thanks for watching!
@@tugboatwilly843 interesting, thanks for recording, rarely see the tugboat's operation from onboard.
Willy do you have other tug captains you would rather work with than others or do you, work in the same company and don’t dare say anything
It’s all the same company but I can honestly say I really enjoy working with everyone. Thanks for watching 🤙
how do we become tug boat captain?
I got a quick video on that up if you are interested. Thanks for watching!
I dont give a shit about the mike, iwhat i give shit about is the sound off the engines, i could her you fine before, What do do you think about the voith schneider system of propulsion,it looks complicated to me. Btw thank you for the videos
I appreciate you! We have Schottel on here. I did not use the mic on the one I made last night. Thanks again!
@@tugboatwilly843 No worries mate, i hate these people that complain about stupid things.
Any nice tractor tug T-shirts for sale Captain?
I’ll work on that! Thanks for watching 🤙
Appreciate what you do bro. Keep up the good work Will 💪💪
Willy I want to go striper fishing with you under the staten island plank ( Verrazano ) 😂😂😂😂
That’s where they at! Thanks for watching!!
You are not sailing, you dont have sails. You are motoring. How are you on a tug and not know the difference?
Hey Bucky thanks for watching! Sailing also means leaving the berth.
that friggin mic flying around is so distractive. get yourself a damn headset, man !
Was that a hammerhead I saw swim by off the bow?
I think it was! Thanks for watching!
