It’s Too HOTTTTTT OUTSIDE TODAY! 🥵🥵🥵🥵. One gauge says 93 the other 98 degrees in WI, Z5a. That’s nuts! The plants I watered yesterday and this morning and they have heat exhaustion. Been up since 4:30 am and by 1 pm I had it. We got are awnings on and shade on patio. I did not get all the seedlings in and the paste tomatoes almost took a header, but caught in time. These plants are wondering what kind of hell they landed in-I’m wondering also!
Great idea with conduit!! We use cups on poles for shade fabric. It works well except in high wind as shade fabric lifts and the bird netting shouldn’t. Ugh, that bird netting-the snaggy kind-I had a shirt with buttons on today and it grabbed me 3 times before could get away from it in the shed.
Grackles-I sooo remember a place we had where they returned regularly-not pleasant. I haven’t heard the cat bird crying yet and hope they moved on. We have a nice array of birds this year and so happy the bluebird rented a backyard house😅 and the wren was so excited to have a new one-so chatty and was moving furniture in as soon as we put it up.
    New surprise today-A Pink Columbine!🎉
I’m pulling some poppies to make room for existing plants and new. They are liking there area a bit too much so they hopped over to the veg garden. There is plenty of area to plant outside of fenced area and I take a chance and difficult to keep watered. Problem is we are still in drought and I think worse than they report. Possibly rain Monday/Tuesday with the latter an alert day.
I had some snaps return this year also and wondered if the Madam Butterfly and others will return. It sure would be nice to not have to start them inside. I guess depending on how the winter is and if they are mulched.
I managed to sow seeds early morning and fix a few things on my mental list. With this heat it makes you feel like you’re behind on everything. Keep Cool 😎

Many here in US blame our president for high prices. I hear from many prices are high in CN. So I think it’s fare to say it’s not the president’s fault. What has happened is wages took a huge hike and the pandemic. Many won’t eat at fast food places because of the cost and say if they are paying that much they may as well go to a sit down restaurant.
McDonald’s is seeing less traffic and for a limited time they will soon offer a $5 meal. It won’t be enough to bring them back if it’s limited. It’s ruff on fixed income people.
Like Leigh said, grow all you can. I know I do and it keeps us out of the grocery store for longer stretches.

Nope. I share. Always have too much fruit. Only so many pie fillings, chutneys, frozen, giveaways. Garden intermixes flowers, veggie, bushes, trees, keeps the ground shaded and from drying out. Cages are nasty.

We are able to save a year of food! Nothing like homegrown. But if you don't mind sharing with critters thats cool too!
