    I definitely think the morning cleanse should be just based on how you're feeling in the morning like if you feel like you want to wash off that layer of products to have a fresh slate, then just cleanse! if it's super dry and cold and you don't want to get your face wet, then don't cleanse! people get obsessed with the idea of routines and forget you can just follow the vibes

      This! We're all different and we all have different needs on different days. During the week, I wash my face in the morning with a super light, nourishing non-foaming cleanser just to give me a clean, fresh slate and a little boost of moisture. But on weekends, I usually just splash a little water and go on with my day. Over the past couple of years, skincare/beauty routines have become a bit of a status symbol -- the more fancy, big name products we use, the better and more "enlightened" we are. Simple is oftentimes better in many cases.

    • @xErinxx
      @xErinxx Před 2 lety +7

      Exactly! I have combo skin and live in a tropical environment (lots of humidity fluctuation). Sometimes I completely wash my face, sometimes I just rinse, sometimes I don’t at all. Also depends on what you’re doing that day, like James mentioned. There’s nothing wrong with feeling out what your skin needs and responding to that. Your routine doesn’t always have to be exactly the same

    Rule I recently broke was "only use products targeted to for your skin type". I know my skin type is oily but because I was only using products specifically targeted to oily/acne prone skin, I went too hard on my skin & striped it & destroyed my moisture barrier. Been seeing a few people commenting that they feel like James is inconsistent about his messaging, and honestly I can't really say I agree. I think its a consistent throughline in skincare that different things tend to work for different people and honestly I appreciate how honest he was about the vitamin c. I've started building up more of a routine as of late and knowing that there are other products which may give similair results to vitamin c when combined properly is a valuable piece of information which incentivizes me to be more aware of how I'm actually reacting to my products.
    And at the end of the day, skincare's an ever developing science. Just because one supplements the information one has given out prior upon expanding ones pool of knowledge and experience doesn't mean one was lying.
    Edit: Also don't buy a product *just* because a skincare influencer recomends it. Get it if you feel you have a need for it and it has a fair shot of working for you. And if something does genuinely work for you, but an influencer seems to have fallen out of love with said product that doesn't take away from it. Their entire career is to review products, of course they're going to cycle through them and sometimes even adjust their endorsements as their field evolves.

    As someone who first found you in my mid-late teens, the best advice you gave me was not cleansing in the morning, even if it's not what you stick to now! Not washing made me be more careful with layering and actives the night before, but then after I went on accutane and my oily skin became super dry, it's become practically a hard rule for me. I don't even let water touch my face unless it's on a morning where I wash my hair in the shower, which is 1-2 times a week. Doing this keeps my skin protected and supply, cuts down on the time it takes me to get ready in the morning (don't need cleanser, don't need moisturiser to soak in), and also stacks less layers on my face so everything is less likely to pill! Plus, not needing to apply moisturiser in the morning means I can really slather on my sunscreen and feel fine instead of bogged down.

Thanks for featuring this great line of products. ❤️. PS thanks for including your pup today. The more the better ❤️❤️❤️

    I have typically combo skin, very oil in my t-zone. I love your videos because it keeps me updated on products, the science and just a total dopamine hit. My skin is sensitive, but relatively clear and so I keep my routine extremely simple. A cleanse with burts bees, witch hazel toner, a brightening serum for my redder areas and burts bees moisturizer and every few days an eye cream (:
    Thanks for the info and advice!

      My skin’s great with vit C, but I have the same problem with retinoids. I can’t use anything with retinoids because it burns my eye skin so bad that it was creating fine lines (I’m only 20 for reference, was using the retinoids for acne), but for some reason I can use products with just vit A with zero issue.

    Just tried an eye cream this year and man did my eyes change! I never really had dark under eyes or bags, but I saw so much improvement. My eyes looked brighter and plumper. Plus no more dry spots when I use eye shadow! I'm obsessed with it! I use Skinfix 360 eye cream. Love it and it lasts so long!

    Honestly I'm over retinoids entirely. I have tried 10 different products and I just hate the experience and stress of using them! At this point, I just want my skin to feel calm and happy. If I end up aging more or whatever that's fine because at least I will be comfortable and I don't believe I will become a bog witch like the internet seems to think I will 😂

      Yes! I've tried two different retinol serums since February this year and my cheeks are burnt even though I was extremely careful with how and what to use. Had to consult my dermatologist and going through a course of medication to calm my flaming cheeks down. Retinols are just not worth it for my skin type.

    I feel the same way! My favorite eye cream is Origins Ginzing. I’ve tried others and always come back to it. It helps with my dark circles over time and immediately depuffs my eyes in the morning. It has a pink tint which helps with color correction and it also dries just a little sticky which is perfect for applying concealer and eye shadow afterwards.

    To add on your mention with caffeine , the girls at chemist confessions mentioned that the caffeine in eye creams might not be enough. For any marked difference, you need about 100ml, and that’s like a cup of coffee which is definitely not in that amount in an eye product

    I'm not at all sensitive to vitamin C, like not even the slightest tingle. But I also just don't find it that effective for treating dark marks, which was the primary reason I added it to my routine. It definitely improves my overall complexion, and I highly recommend the Missha Vita C Plus Spot Correcting & Firming Ampoule for those interested in a great vit C product. But it does nothing for my blemishes left behind by acne, which is frustrating when acne is no longer a major skincare concern of mine.

    this was such a great video James! question: have you ever tried a vitamin C product that uses tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate?! it is way more stable (less oxidative) than other forms of vitamin C (like ascorbic acid) so for me, it doesn't cause any irritation or weird skin feelings. I've tried many vitamin C serums that are made with other forms of vitamin C and my skin tends to react poorly to them, so i can only use products with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. if you ever come across a product that features THD ascorbate in a simple serum formulation, i would highly recommend trying it :)

    • @soudontlikeme
      @soudontlikeme Před rokem +1

      @haley rachel....i was reading up on THD. What I learned was that it was 50X stronger than ascorbic acid therefore producig more collagen. And yeah like you said, its much more stable . I hadn't heard anyone ever mention THD before or after I learned about it. Glad someone else reads!

    I have heard (but don’t know if there’s science behind it) that Vitamin C often doesn’t work for rosacea prone skin! I have rosacea and stopped using l-ascorbic acid and find derivatives to be more doable. But there is a weird pressure to use Vit C during the day for sure !

    • @fioletskye1950

    • @RamatoulieBo
      @RamatoulieBo Před 2 lety

      I mean I think his point is that you don’t need an alternative! I think if you’re looking for a daytime active in lieu of Vit C, I usually go with an antioxidant serum to still boost the power and protection of my sunscreen.

    Love this video! I found it so relatable. Most mornings my skin hates it when I don’t cleanse. I use vit c about 1-2 times a week and it really just doesn’t always agree with my skin. Just trying to finish a bottle and I’m going to try something else. I’ve tried the face moisturizer as eye cream and all I got was milia. I find that eye serums seem to work best for me. I feel like we always say that skincare is so individual but then you mention you use an eye cream and get vilified in replies.

  • @rookiesatparody
    @rookiesatparody Před 2 lety

    I agree with the eye cream. I've been using eye creams since I was 16 (am 26 now) and recently saw a lot of people saying that you can use moisturiser under your eyes. I had no issues with my Cerave eye cream. It wasn't until I tried using my night cream (also by Cerave) under my eyes did I develop freaking milia under my eyes. It was too moisturising for my undereye 😩
    Watching this video helped clear the confusion for me. I will continue to spend that extra bit on my eye cream.
