Quick Note: One thing I didn't realize is the voltage of the battery pack is higher than I realized. This means despite the smaller mAh, the voltage difference makes this able charge an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro, but not 100% due to inefficiencies of wireless charging.
Thanks for clarification on that! Keep up the good work.
Does it work with a non magsafe case?
I just purchased a 5200mAh battery case for my iphone 12 mini for $25.00. It definitely has more charging power as opposed to the HIGH PRICED battery pack from Apple 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
@@poppa6582 But you lose the thermal management and battery longevity protections. Not a big deal if you upgrade phones frequently; if you keep the phone for a long time, you may experience battery degradation issues, or poor performance from the phone because it is operating at the thermal upper limit. I would also bet that you wont get more than 50% of that 5200mAh due to inefficiencies with the 3rd party battery. It’s up to you to decide if that’s worth $75.
@@poppa6582 you didn’t understand the voltage explanation at all, and you won’t have any of the battery management features, heat protection, nor will you have the phone actually in mobile mode, meaning much of the power you would get will just be wasted as the phone does iCloud backups and tons of back ground checks due to the fact your phone will think it’s plugged in, non Apple battery packs are horribly for the device and I’d highly encourage you not to do that
Would like if they did it in different colours so they could match our phones.
One thing to always keep in mind-
anything that is in its first release like this will almost always be a basic color if any. Technically they need to see how this thing will sell with the public first , then if consumers buy them, Apple will begin customizing them to fit their line .
Bro, this is useless .It barely charge an iPhone mini completely .
Important factor, not more battery charging capacity or quicker charging times, but the important part here is colour, different colours would solve all its problems :)
Haha, I know we never happy, there is always something that they could’ve done better. Haha
@@morenojader for the price, they could have done alot better.... for that price I refused to even buy it xD :) I prefer to give support to companies that really want to try to do a good product and not just sell you a portion of a good product... based on brand name... Apple didnt use to be like this...
"The battery pack is smaller than other iPhones". This is actually not correct. The voltage of the battery pack is twice as high as the voltage on the iPhone 12 and therefore you cannot compare the amount of mAhs. Watt-hour should be used to compare the sizes.
MagSafe Battery Pack: 11,13 Wh
iPhone 12 mini: 8,57 Wh
iPhone 12 en 12 Pro: 10,75 Wh
iPhone 12 Pro Max: 14,13 Wh
Without taking into account the loses of the wireless charging the magsafe battery pack should be able to charge the iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 12 (pro) to 100%
Right, I didn't realize the voltage difference until posting...
@@zollotech then you need to do a new video and let us know how much it charges on each devices from 0% and how long it takes..
What about the 12 Pro Max?
@@MasterPiece-rg7ed possibly 😀
you cannot overlook the electrical losses due to wireless charging, its not negligible.
In your testing you should include a test through the case, efficiency drops as you increase the distance between the coils
What do you think of the new MagSafe Battery Pack? Did you buy one, do you need one or are you getting something different? Thanks for watching, it is always appreciated.
I'm waiting for the iPhone 13! 💚
I thought it had 2 cells which made it more like a 2,800 mAh?
No too expensive for what it’s giving.
I’m also waiting for iPhone 13. Who knows if this will even work on the new iPhones. Highly doubt it they don’t make money that way!
Trash my phone dies still lol
It's 1:50am... And that was the best review I've ever seen. All of that information for this product I would've not known! I've seen other reviewers cover this product.. But nothing close to this. You have my subscription 💪🏼✔️
Thank you, just bought a battery pack and tried to charge it with my MagSafe charger 😂😂 definitely needed this video to understand the first step lol
Absolutely love it and will be picking it up. Again, it’s not meant to charge it up fully and the fact that I can charge other wireless charging items is awesome. It’s CONVENIENT
Fax, lmk if you got it!!
Great video! Really answered every question I had about it. It might be wishful thinking, but I’m still hoping for a Smart Battery case for my 12 Pro Max. I prefer the battery being built into the case, but I highly doubt Apple will release a new accessory for the 12 this late into its life.
I’m pretty sure 3rd parties have those. Before the MagSafe was invented I’ve seen cases with batteries on them for extra life. Older iPhones though, bulky cases.
I’m visually Impaired and always struggled opening products from Apple, until I watched you tear the strips off from items, many thanks for that Aran.
Same here. I'm not really visually impaired. Just stupid. I was like, oh... that's how to do it!!!
Thanks so much for this video. For the life of me, I couldn’t’t why I wasn’t seeing the battery showing up while attached to my 13 pro Max running 15.3. After receiving it as a Christmas gift, I had not yet plugged it using the lightning cable. After seeing your video, that’s exactly what I did, and lo and behold now I can see the battery and see that it is charging my phone. Thanks so much, great video.
I’m on 15.0.2, and the MagSafe battery pack works perfectly!
Hey Aaron, just wanted to let you know been following your videos for years now. Have to say your videos are so simple and so easy to understand and the clarity of videos is brilliant. Keep up the good work. God Bless You!
Thats looks so tasty I want to lick it
Looking forward to a usage video, how many hours does it add when used all day and how well does it work as a “charger” when slapping it onto a drained phone.
Hi Aron :)
You videos are good as always.
One question, how strong are magnets? Are you comfortable using iphone while battery is attached? Did you get felling that battery will slip and fall off the phone?
Thanks
You answered everything almost. In none of the image renders I could see the Lightning port at the bottom. Reverse charging the case makes it a win.
How do you turn it off when you’re not using it ?
@@kingjc0455 apparently the chip in the charger does it for you, eg. turns off charging once full, etc. Presumably it's technically always "on" as the charge status shows in the widget, similar to how Airpods or Apple Watch function.
@BTICronox stick to the iPhone as intended. I see what you mean. I feel it'd stick better when it'd have more friction in the form of a case and not directly to the iPhone..
@@kingjc0455 You can’t, it goes off by itself.
Akbar Daheer - your statement is whats wrong with America today, your buying this battery pack knowing how weak the capacity is, not knowing the battery can just be shaken off the phone or must be kept on a flat surface, if you put it in your pocket it will move around and become unattached, you can’t even fully charge an iPhone 12 max with it, Reverse wireless charging actually means you can sit something on the back of the battery and charge it, which you can’t, what the hell makes this weak ass battery a win? Oh to you because it has an Apple Logo on it.
Been waiting for this one too!
Why there are better wireless chargers on the market for half the price.
@@studivan and they work better. I only got 50% charge for my phone. Not worth the money.
Can’t wait for case makers to make a case for the battery pack and phone together. 🔥🔥🔥
I was excited for this being released. Now I know it basically does the same thing as other devices I already own. I feel that I am going to hold off until they make some improvements. Appreciate your review.
The main reason you would buy this anyway is for the software integration. I think your decision is good tho
This is actually a nice accessory, much better than all the cables using a portable charger and much better than those battery cases.
Amazing video Aaron keep up the great work
Have ordered and it should be here in a day or two. Thanks for your review.
I.
Great video as always! Thank you for always archiving just about everything we need to know about Apple products for the sake of reference in the future. You're one of the key inspirations for my channel. -Jack
It’s convenience would come in handy at work. But, 2.5X the mA hours so it could at least fully charge the IP12PMAX from a dead still would have been nice. Maybe a deal breaker for me on this one. Thanks for the heads up, a great and informative video as usual.
i wish i could wirelessly charge my wireless charger
Same, this is kind of a dealbreaker for me.
Dealbreaker for me too. I can’t find any MagSafe that have wireless built in yet.
Agree
I wish I could wirelessly charge the wireless charger of my wireless charger
@@roshsurana If mage safe is a magnet and the magnet hooks the wireless charger to your phone, then the wireless charger isnt anymore a "wireless charger" but a "magnet" charger that misses the point of using a wireless charger in first hand :) Why would I want a charger to get stuck to my phone like a normal cable or macbook pro cable? Weird logic? I thought the idea of wireless chargers were to charger and to lift out without getting stuck , and in the future I expected the range of wireless charge to increase... Apple logic lately is weird in certain things.
You should look into battery capacity in terms of watt hours rather than mAh. As Apple battery pack voltage is different, the same amount of mAh will charge iPhone differently. Also we can't compare Apple battery pack with other third party packs which switch iPhone into "plug-in" mode - let me explain: if you take battery pack with much higher capacity, it will not have integration for iPhone to understand that its not simply plugged in into wall charger and it will start to do various battery intensive operations such as updates and syncing. So, in reality you will get much more battery life from Apple battery pack compared to third party battery pack which will state higher capacity. Another thing is that some third party battery packs also interferes with cellular connection and then iPhone consumes more power because it has to increase consumption of battery power as well. Lots of things to think about, which Apple, very likely, did.
So it’s better to use Apple product even though it may seem less efficient? Thank you! 😊
Nah my 3rd party magsafe battery pack charges at 15W wirelessly and triggers the same magsafe circle animation that the official charger does. 10k mah too. just have to look for a good one.
@@pcoleman2562 it means that your battery pack is fully MagSafe compatible (meaning they pay percentage for the sale to Apple as patented technology is being used)
It's good you did an unboxing video, unlike most other reviewers, because that way we get to see all you get in the box... nothing else but the magsafe pack
Thank you for the video. I couldn’t figure out how to see how much battery was in it and didn’t know I could reverse charge.
The reason they say it’s better to remove the battery pack when taking a photo with the flash on is probably because it will cast a shadow near the edge of your photo when using the wide angle lens.
Wish we got a case I like those better, wish different colors, thanks for review.
Silicone case with the battery pack is basically the same thing
I believe this was done so it will be future proof for newer iPhone releases instead of being a case which may not work on the next iPhone if the dimensions will be different.
@@32poppasavage28 except that setup is larger and less efficient than just having a battery case. Also worse for your battery’s health.
Thank you for answering all my questions
@Zollotech the clicking sound you hear is the magnet. It’s loose inside of the case and moves towards the opposite pole when you get close to the phone.
Thanks, Aaron, for providing another informative video. This battery pack is a downgrade if you ask me. 😅 At least if you compare it to last year's model. I love the one for the iPhone 11 it had the camera button on the side and fully encased the iPhone. ❤️
Given the short cord on the $ 39 charger, is it reasonable to buy this instead for charging in your home. Keep it plugged in, easy to place the phone on it, and still can take it with you if necessary.
I wonder if it’ll work with an Otterbox case? I know the new one I have for my new 12 Max can still wirelessly charge with the Otterbox on.
Thank you for the information, I bought it for an older phone and it seemed to not charge but now I know to wait a bit
man , apple makes the most hipnotising packaging , i like it and i hate to be a die hard fan of apple 😂😂😂
You can get a power bank for a lot less than this.
naw... i cant be no fanatic of apple but they always manage to keep things fresh.
Imagine apple made iphone thin to compete with android and then selling a bulky battery packs
@@darreldash it can, there’s a comment above describing it because of difference in voltage
No it cant lol... aaron even did a test in another video and that was 4 days ago.
I prefer the Smart Battery Case Apple made for 6, 6s, 7, X, and 11. Battery and protective case all in one. This power puck strikes me as a step backward.
I have an 8 and miss having an SBC for it. I was keen to upgrade to a 12, but committed to buying an SBC for the phone before buying the phone, itself.
This late in the product cycle, I can hold out for the 13/12s. But I know now that I’ll have to settle for a 3rd party battery case, because Apple won’t officially realize the power puck was a mistake until the iPhone 14 rolls out.
Finally, a video that used it with the MagSafe case! Thanks
Thank you so much for this! This is the most informative video on all platforms that I have seen and I really appreciate the unboxing and informative video! Now I know exactly what to get!
Hi Aaron I need your help.
Hi great explanation. I need your help
MagSafe battery pack shows as 0% even though it’s charged
I recently bought it but after not using it after some days even though it’s fully charged when I connect it to my phone it shows 0%. If I plug a lightning cable in it it suddenly wakes up and shows the real percentage and works just fine. Is this normal? Should it be replaced? Isn’t the whole purpose not to have a lightning cable to wake it up?
Same here
Most likely the flash warning with the battery pack attached is probably from light bouncing off the side of the pack and entering the lens causing lens flare. This is why you see DSLR shooters (like me) use those lens hoods that stick out from the lens-it's to keep side-light from hitting the lens and causing flares.
Hi Aaron...What happens if you use the MagSafe battery pack as a wireless charger to charge the iPhone...does it take longer than the wired charging ?
Thank you for your unboxing video
can’t wait to see your next video reviewing it’s charging ability... like how much it can charge a phone from 0% in different model
Thanks for a great run down. :-) I ordered the MagSafe battery pack and I’m about to open the box. just had a couple of questions.
1. How long does it take for the battery pack it self to charge?
2. I have an iPhone 12 Pro. So you’re saying it will only charge the iPhone once and I might not get a full charge from it? So then, if I plug the battery back to the back of the iPhone when the phone is at 20%, how much percent will the battery pack give the phone?
3. It’s great that you can see how much charge the battery pack has when it’s charging your iPhone, but is there a way to tell how much charge the battery pack has when it is charging by itself? I know there is a light but I’m blind and won’t see the light so I wondered if there still away for the iPhone to tell you how much charge the battery pack has? But asit’s not connected via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi I’m guessing not.
I have the same questions as you ?
@@harrienelle139 in order to see the charge, I found out it has to be connected to the phone magnetically. It brings the phone from 20% up to around 80% and can last six hours charging your phone. You can see how much charge it has going to the battery section of the home screen.
Well done review. I had one of these purchased, but decided to cancel for the time being. I am definitely interested to see how much of a charge a depleted 12 Pro Max will get from this battery. Still, I can see this coming in handy if out for a full day without access to power. Thanks again, Aaron, for your awesome first look!

Hello Aaron,I would like to know the time duration to charge the phone to 100% specifically using just a battery pack. Thank you
Great video as usual! Very informative. I can't see myself paying $100 for this, but man do I like the concept.
There are a lot cheaper options that almost work identically to this charger! Just the other day I saw one that only costed 30 bucks and it has great reviews.
@@dddaniyahhh Yes, but there is always more risk of ruining battery health with 3rd party chargers because of the heat factors. I have this charger and the Anker 633 and appreciate both for different reasons.
Apple charger is meant to be put on at the start of your day to maintain 90%. I also love that the apple bank can be charged when also charging the phone.
Anker 633 has a stand which I love and a lot of power but it doesn’t care about how much heat it generates. I love the Anker 633 because you can turn off the charging capabilities and just utilize it as a stand.
@@AubreyFaye Yes, that’s a really good point!
I like how Zollotech talks has all the information you want about apple products, without being biased. Most youtubers are either for or against apple, so they talk shit about all the things apple do or always find a way to say how amazing it is.
Zollotech is just giving the information and gives his honest opinion.
Like he mentioned here, it’s handy that it reverse charges, but it looks a bit odd on the bigger phones and for the price his not sure if it’s something you really want.
I wish you talked more about the light. How do I know when the battery is at 100% charge? Only by looking at the widget section of the iPhone?
Maybe mentioned already but if you plug the battery pack in, it MagSafe charges the iPhone at 15w instead of the unplugged 5w - whilst also charging the battery pack at the same time….assuming you have a good enough wall charger. Quite a neat device truth be told.

The cable with 20w charges super fast but the MagSafe is double the time and overheats (slows charging also when gets hot) so not worth the long term damage (degradation of battery)
I genuinely thought the whole idea of MagSafe was fast charging but it’s actually twice as slow as cable so not sure the purpose
So you need a USB-C to lighting cable and power adapter that is OVER 20W, or does a 20W power adapter work?
Good review overall. However, I would like to know if the phone gets too hot while charging with this battery. I bought an Anker and I can't use. The phone gets very hot.
Personally I would prefer a charging case to place on the device so that I could apply my MagSafe wallet. This renders apple users to decide between the charger or wallet, instead of both which is a monumental inconvenience.
Just realized that you DIY A much better wireless charger MagSafe mount for a car with this.
Thanks for the info - good video, very informative!
is double/tripple back tap still working with that attached on the back?
protip: look at the Wh rating.
