    Thanks Nate you have now made me more interested in setting up in a specific oak stand on our property. I find deer bedding up there and have bumped them year to year and usually see a scrape or two. I'll have to vet it like you said on what to look for to optimize setup. This year I will have my Tehthrd setup so don't have to try and haul a stand in.

    Great info, Detailed maps are a good tool for hunting if one knows how the animals travel/behave. topo maps are a good way to find potential deer escape routes as well for when the fudds start clod-stomping the forest. good luck and enjoy the season.

    Not having any luck finding white oaks in my area that are producing. I think the flowers got waxed by the polar vortex. If I remember right i think growingdeertv dr grant said reds pollinate the yr before so they may not produce next yr bc of it

    I think it missed the most valuable things on a topographical map. Pinchpoints and saddles between those ridges.

    What is that camo pattern/maker? I love the open type patterns.
    Oh, I did notice on my trail camera pictures of me.. The "Strata" pattern really disappears. I may have to wear it a bit more this year a see.

    Nate… are younger white oaks more fruitful and more sought after than older White oaks? Or are mature white oaks better?Nutrition wise?

    • @averagejackarchery
      @averagejackarchery  Před 2 lety +2

      I'll always go with the older, more mature trees. Definitely sucking up more nutrients and ground water than their smaller offspring.

      @@averagejackarchery there's been areas where I hunt in MI that have been logged every year and the images are like 5 years old at least. And onx's logging layer that they clam is updated every year doesn't show these logged areas

  • @Clifwalker

    Man I wished Onx would quit using summer time aerial imagery. Summer time imagery is useless except for showing clear cuts in the south. Very hard to distinguish evergreens from hardwoods.
