The Adirondacks: Big Slide & Whiteface Mountain

Join me on a special adventure in the Adirondacks, both a walk down memory lane and the beginning of a chapter for my daughter and her boyfriend. I hiked many of these northern New York mountain trails when I lived in Rochester in the 70’s & 80’s. There are forty-six peaks over 4000' in this range, and I hiked 27 of them before leaving for the west coast in 1991. It was good to be back on Big Slide and Whiteface Mountain with my daughter, Maddie, and her boyfriend, Brandon, as they embarked on their mission to climb them all and become “forty-sixers”.
Our adventure included a challenging hike up Big Slide (me part-way; Mad & Bran, to the summit) and a short "hike" to the peak of Whiteface, both with fun moments along the way. We first stopped at Old Mountain Coffee Company for a great cup of coffee to energize us for our outings. Enjoy the rugged and beautiful scenery of this unique and remote part of New York State.
