  • Canada has brought its fair share of food across the border. Most people in the US are familiar with standards like poutine or those delicious donuts from Tim Hortons. But when it comes to ice cream, there probably aren’t many Canada-specific flavors that come to mind.
    Well, it just so happens there is one kind of ice cream that is quite unique to the country in question. Whether or not it would be welcome with open arms is up for debate, but it certainly has a strong following in its place of origin. This is the ice cream flavor you can basically only get in Canada.

      Vanilla. Classic and underrated but different vanillas taste different so finding out which is used is nice

    Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour, where I work, is featured in this video. Tiger Tail was one of the flavours that were highly requested for our opening weekend this past week!

    I've always liked black licorice but I totally get and can see liking this ice cream even if I didn't like black licorice..lol.

    As a Canadian I was unfamiliar that tiger tail was a Canadian flavour, I hate black liquorice but tiger tail is SO good

    No no, see, I’m from the US, and this sounds AMAZING. I’ve spent a lot of time in Europe, and learned to love black licorice. The idea of combining it with a citrus flavor is pure genius. I’d try this in a heartbeat!

      I'd try it but I don't like licorice. I think a blackberry flavor would work with the color/flavor combination.

    As a side note…If you ever visit Prince Edward Island..check out Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour as seen various times throughout this video..they make delicious homemade ice cream and they are great people as well!

    More Canadians should raise a ruckus about the elimination of Habitant Canadian yellow split pea soup that was done in By Campbell soup company ! I love (loved) it and I have to make my own instead of just opening a can to heat up when ever I had a craving! I am from Maine and now live in Florida. I find it very difficult to get the yellow split peas !

    OMG... the last time I saw Tiger ice cream was back in 1974.
    Lucerne Dairy (the private dairy label for Safeway) produced the ice cream, and (of course), mom bought it at Safeway.
    Lucerne dairy products are now Walmart’s official dairy label and can be purchased in Western Canada.

    as a canadian, i was today years old when i learned tiger tail isn't a common thing outside of my country LOL
    guys i swear on my life, it's beyond delicious. i'm someone who *strongly hates* anything orange flavoured, and i ADORE tiger tail - it's easily in my top 3. i love black liquorice though so that may help my case, but i have friends who gag at black liquorice but will down a 500mL tiger tail tub in one go :)

    I thought it was gonna be orange and chocolate, which is a flavour combination I've had and don't care for. Now that I know it's orange and black licorice I want to try it!

    During a trip to Newfoundland I tasted Rum Raisin ice cream .I loved it! Now to find it in the States .

      Rum raisin is basically vanilla icecream mixed with some raisins, liquid caramel, and rum. Soften some vanilla icecream, stir in the ingredients I told you and you’ll have your rum raisin! My dad loved it and I thought it was good.

    Reminds me of the bubblegum ice cream from Lucky's/Thrifty's drugstore that haunts me to this day. They don't sell it any stores that I know
    of, (sold in the 90s and I'm prettysure the drugstores changed hands to Safeway stores.) and it may well have been vanilla with blue food coloring, but it was hecking GOOD!!

      Yes! I remember it too! I live near a Chevron gas station in Vegas that sells thrifty ice cream including "bubble gum". Decatur/Alta intersection). My faves are chocolate malt crunch, and vanilla cherry. So I assume it's available to business owners who sign up to carry the product.

    As much as I enjoy Tigers as an animal, I don't know if I could stomach that flavor of ice cream especially if the black stripes taste like black licorice which I can't stand.

    I remember seeing and really wanting the Tiger tail ice cream whenever we went to Woolco. When I did finally try it - I wasn't impressed but to each his own I guess.

    It's more reminiscent of gelato and the flavor is that of cantaloupe, an old time favorite, albeit a quirky one.

    I like licorice, I like orange, but the combination of orange and licorice as an ice cream flavour just sounds downright putrid to me. It makes me feel physically wrong for just knowing about it.

    I am Canadian and funny enough I’ve never tried this I think the orange is offputting to me I would actually love it if it was just pure black liquorice ice cream I’ve never been a fan of orange flavoured ice cream. No matter what it’s combined with . Sorry : (

    Maybe it's a Vancouver Island thing, but it's always been referred to as Tiger Tiger ice cream. At least the ice cream shop in Campbell River has that label on the Nestle ice cream that they sell.

      Now you see I HATE chocolate. The smell makes me sick. And you try going to restaurant now and getting a dessert that doesn't have chocolate in it. It is like every other flavour in the world has disappeared!! I love licorice. Especially that from Oz or Holland (which is quite salty) Each to her own.

    Can see it now all the folks who don't have acquired taste crying how much they don't like black licorice. Willing to say 95% of them haven't even tried this Ice Cream. Who's to say you wouldn't actually like it. I'm sure there've been some odd food pairings we've all thought of as yuck gross but actually later tried to learn that this isn't halved bad.
