I find grinding out games with 1 person to be my ideal practice. My hands are slow, clumsy, and I'm a bit retarded when it comes to learning/improving, so getting punished in the same way multiple times helps me fine tune and test out different options. Also how in the world does anyone review vods. At which point do you consider an option bad/unviable? You got hit trying to up-tilt. Was that the wrong choice, or do you just need a little bit of spacing. If it hits is it luck or a good option? What if it IS a bad choice but a good mix up? What if you do something generally discouraged but you tend to find success with? Weed it out and find something else to do or refine it? I've never seen a person able to describe vod review other than, look at why you got hit or lost the stock and DONT DO IT ANYMORE. Even watching other people review just looks like hindsight and already obtained knowledge at play.
Yeah reviewing while just looked at things in hingsight is for me also one of the most frustrating things to watch/do. But I do think there is actually real concrete things that you can get from just watching your own vods. I feel like the big thing is that you can actually look up things while watching the vod. Ignoring all of the wishy-washy stuff like where you're positioning and that stuff, just looking up "how to escape marths chaingrab as puff" is something you can pretty much only do when doing vod review. Especially with really specific stuff like at what percent characters get knocked down.
@@Arch3rDota I learn much more seeing what top players are doing and keeping a mental note ways other people recover or use moves to space, etc. But reviewing my own stuff is like, wtf do I do with this? Also fighting Falco will always be an enigma to me lol. I can not powershield online to save my life and no Falcos stick around long enough for me to really practice it in neutral.
It also helps to review pro vod plays too that's how you get new content in your head With learning anything, the process has 3 parts collecting information, using the information, and making sure you're using it right so learning concepts, practicing it, and reviewing it part 3 is vod review As a small concept though, you're probably best looking for patterns rather than solving a situation if you get shined off stage, it might be because you just simply played wrong. But if you get shined off stage billion times then you have a bad habit. TLDR, there are 3 steps to getting better learn from others, practicing it, and then reviewing to make sure its done right and look for habits rather than individual plays hope I helped! I'll try to resoond asap if you have questions
this is an awesome video man, you’re clearly so much better after a month than you were at the beginning of the video. really cool to see your process of putting in the effort and have it pay off, gl in the future if you choose to continue trying to improve
I Just started playing melee like 2 months ago and have been feeling like I’ll never be good enough to compete but this vid helped me realize what I should be doing to improve more. Thanks for the banger vid!
I've never even considered playing Melee competitively, nor do I know too much aside from the occasional Hungrybox stream, but this video was a super cool retrospective about practice stuff! Keep it up homie, awesome content
@@Arch3rDota I've also worked a lot on my mentality specifically because of our set. You were right about the frustration passing on to me. But it made me take a step back and rebuild. It was such a good set looking back. I can't believe I choked my lead so hard though XD.
Haha, I'm in a bit of a weird situation. Started with dota content, switched to melee (but it got very little views), decided to go back to dota content fully and now suddenly my melee content is getting spread around.
@@Arch3rDota ah man I understand that haha, good video either way :), usually low view video essay type videos like this one I find are too bloated with words but this was concise
I learned a lot from this video like rewatch your vods and don't play mindless unranked. and probably the most important thing that practise for 1 hour a day can be better then 7 hours on 1 day and nothing for the rest of the week.
@@Arch3rDota it really does I literally tried writing down what I do wrong right now and after a few matches instantly felt improvement thx a lot for the tips in the video
Great video, came from Reddit! (gross I know) I do think your intro could've been way shorter however, it's a bit rough with the amount of filler in your intro and I kinda zoned out, almost clicking off tbh Hope to see a follow-up video if you ever plan on it!

Just got this in my CZcams recommended and from a fellow puff player, this is an excellent video. Keep being on the melee grind!
Thanks, you too!

I always knew you were a fast learner and actually remember telling you, it's nice seeing you analysing set too
good video!! loved hearing your thought process, hope the motivation keeps up
Holy moly thats me mate. I found this video by accident!! Sorry for the rough game. I am relatively new as well. Floaties are hard :/
I think we're both equally guilty for the set :) (And floaties are hard, especially against other floaties haha)

Thank you!
that swedish ness player seems pretty cool
Very debatable
Great video!
Thanks!
cool video, pretty good humor as well
nice detailed look into your evolution made realize that i still have to make a real gameplan.
still salty about that upthrow rest tho lol.
😅
Very understandable, the reason that I play puff is so that I don't have to ever play against puff (the ditto doesn't count)
@@Arch3rDota yeah you didn't show any matchup experience with puff when D4K played.
I play Spacie/Puff because of the ditto for both isn't my thing.
just got this reccomended to me and was surprised to see 0 comments in the past year and low amount of views, smh

cool video!! what's the song that's playing in the background at the start of the video? it sounds so familiar
yeah im wondering too!!
It's the "check mii out" channel music, I yoinked it from Ludwig
This was cool. I bet you’d see a bigger margin of improvement if it was done again but spending the time on learning a secondary.
Very true, might be something I'll have to try
3:46 hungrybox made people hate puff. Skill issue
