Cycling 4 Climate draws attention to climate change and sustainability with its cycling tours. The annual Climate Classic is the main event. This year’s edition will take place on June 21st. The Climate Classic is a cycle tour from Breda to Groningen along the future coastline of the Netherlands if sea levels continue to rise due to climate change. According to the Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute, sea levels have already risen by 20 centimetres in the last century. There is a risk of another 2.5 meters being added this century. This problem is a worldwide phenomenon and must be prevented.
This year, 2,000 participants are expected to participate in the Climate Classic. Participants are challenged to raise money for Wetlands International. This can be done by simply creating a donation page and asking family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances to donate money. As a reward for their sporting achievement!
Wetlands International is committed to the protection and restoration of wetlands worldwide. Such as rivers, coastlines, deltas, peatlands and swamps. Wetlands are true climate heroes. They can store enormous amounts of CO₂ and are crucial for biodiversity, clean water and food security. Unfortunately, since 1900, 70% of these wetlands worldwide have already been lost or degraded. The work of Wetlands International is therefore desperately needed!
