This might be the highest quality, most accurate N scale loco on the market today!! This is also how lights should be on all locos. Bright, very scale and impressive, Period!!
The sound reproduction from that locomotive is unbelievable! You earned a subscriber - great content and well presented.
WOW is the word. I will be getting one shortly. Bachmann and TCS nailed it on this one
The best promo video. Bought 2 today
Impressive! Have a Kato Charger on order, without all the "bells and whistles"...
Fantastic video! You did a great job showcasing the highlight features of the model and more!
There is however one additional "sleeper" feature which is new and unique to this decoder from TCS, which comes straight out of the prototype as well - the "5mph safety switch" - This feature will be active when the locomotive has the default horn set selected, or certain other prototype horns from Amtrak, such as the ACS-64 horn, or VIA Rail SC-42 horn. When any of the "high" versions of these horns are selected, the feature will activate.
When the feature is active, the locomotive will automatically switch between the low-pressure and high-pressure outputs to the horn depending on the speed. The speed at which this change from low to high pressure happens is configurable in the decoder, but by default is roughly 5mph scale speed. This behaviour matches prototypical operations on most railroads, where only the low-pressure horn is available when stationary or at low speed, in order to reduce the volume of the horn while in passenger stations for example.
This feature is not documented in the quick start guide from Bachmann, but a keen and discerning ear will notice this behaviour right out of the box!
[Edit] This feature I have described also applies to the Bachmann HO-Scale VIA Rail SCV-42 Charger locomotive, released recently as well. The configuration option to change the threshold (speed step) is indexed CV 4 : 58.
Ooooooo thank you for the note! I’ll have to check that out! 😊
Excellent video! So happy Bachmann is putting out better n scale locomotives!
Holy moly the amount of sounds especially the tons of different horns on this thing, I must get one of the Midwest Amtrak ones
Hey you got me sold on Bachmann.
Whoa. Mind Blown. 🤯🤯🤯
I've always been Anti-Bachmann, but, I'm impressed now. The only thing that's holding me back from getting one now is the lack of a Caltrans/Amtrak California SC-44.
Hoping to get my first train (as an adult) soon. It'll be N scale as I live in a small apartment. Your video was very informative. Subscribed! ❤️👍
Glad I could be of help! Good luck! 😊
Really Great Video , I have Never been a Passenger Train person Never mind Bachmann fan , however your review and the seemingly Quality improvements that Bachmann is striving to do has got me definitely and honestly somewhat impressed . I am especially impressed by the built in keep alive as standard..
The keep Alive should be a factory standard with every DCC engine regardless of scale these days Especially the price these Manufacturers want for there locos .
Thanks for sharing cheers.
Reminds me of the very poor running rapido VIA F40
I just got the model in the Surfliner scheme, amazingly done!
Excellent video. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you!
Just found this channel mate, great fun I've subbed.
this is an excellent review!
Awesome video. Just got mine a couple of days ago and I love it. I got the Surfliner version. I went ahead and ordered another one in the Cascades version which I have ridden on.
Great review! Just bought a newer Bachmann myself (N scale RS-3) and have been really impressed with it.
Good to hear! I'm looking at pre-orders right now for a couple of different manufacturers that I haven't loved so much in the past. Wondering if it's time to give some second chances.
Awesome video bro!
Thank you!
That's lovely 😍
How has Bachmann improved from the past? I'm still all Kato but am intrigued by this unit.
Really good question. In all honesty I haven’t tested very many Bachmann locos so I don’t have a very good basis for how to answer. I plan to change that in the near future though 😊
CVG this is Allen D I just picked up my Bachman SC-44 from Spring Creek & I'm stoked if I could shrink my big butt to fit into its little Cab & strap in I be ready to Hang on I cannot believe the stuff Bachman packed into this little Gizmo Kato needs to get into the Ball Game & fix up an Engine like this one but as I've seen before with Kato it don't matter on style DC DCC or with sound the Engine is going to do mostly the same lights on lights off not much else, But with a Great Craftsman & his tools any dull Engine can come to life it would just neat to see Kato do a full mod on a locomotive like Bachman did with the SC-44, Since you do installs can you take a Kato Charger & set it up like the Bachman with the Maker Lights Alternating Ditch Lights & other features it would be worth the cost..
Scaletrains is also Making some Good Stuff with all these neat Gadgets keep a Dude happy for a long Time..
Great Video & I'm subbed to your Channel Allen D
Hi Allen! It really is a stunning model isn’t it! So a couple things here, though I probably could take a Kato charger and add many of the lighting features to it, in all honesty it probably wouldn’t look as good as the way Bachmann has done theirs, at least not with my experience level at this point. The labor and parts cost of me doing this custom would probably be more expensive than the Bachmann model too or around the same cost. Maybe some day I’ll be that good but not yet 😂
So glad you enjoyed the video! Glad to have you as a subscriber 😊
Great video and channel just subscribed
Thank you!
Very nice, but it is from the other side of the Atlantic. Bachmann is very hard to find in Portugal/Porto. I have small number of Bachmann trains, and many hours of fun with them. When I see this videos think , " What luky one's".
Oh by the way, in Europa ( Not UK ) ,can I buy Bachmann? Any sugestion ?
Wow !!
I want one now😢😂
I picked up one of these today at the train show in Monroe. I love it. Do they make matching passenger cars?
Not yet but here's hoping!
Is there a way to trun off the strobe lights on top or is there a function that they can turn or off automatic when sound the Horn?
Yes you can turn them off entirely, I’m not sure if you can route them to turn on when the horn sounds but it wouldn’t surprise me if you could.
Nice and good review. If I may, what are you using to control the locomotive, and what track. I’m going from DC to DCC, thanks.
Thanks! Currently using a Digitrax DCS-52. The modules I demonstrated the model on all have PECO code 55 track on them which has worked very well for me.
Still waiting for mine😑
I saw a valentines day sale on this one for 235.00. Is this a good deal?
I have a nice Surfliner collection in O scale going around my ceiling. I need a smaller scale for a table. Now that n scale has sound, I might be all in.
I’d say so! I paid way more than that for mine!
Do they make passenger cars with the same livery to match this loco?
Not that I'm aware of.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Now you need a cabbage f40!
I think that’s my next project 😊
How could it have so many horns?
Manufacturers will often load models with a number of different horns as some modelers will prefer a horn that is more pleasant sounding to their ear rather than the specific horn that is on the prototype.
