- If you like the big American steam locomotives, you will enjoy this model railroad video very much. This video was made not only for entertainment, but it is also a memorial to the superb 3-rail O gauge railroad that was built by Norm Charbonneau more than 20 years ago. After Pilentum Television had already published a video of this legendary miniature world a few weeks ago, good video footage in 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio could be used at that time.
But this video consists of very old video footage originally shot in 4:3 aspect ratio with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels only. The image quality of the old cameras was not high-resolution. Therefore, the old video footage is noisy and blurry. But they were such beautiful moving pictures of steam locomotives and model trains that it would be a shame if this footage remained unseen. Therefore, Pilentum Television has extensively restored the old video files transferred by Norm Charbonneau and tried to produce a video presentation in the best possible quality. A whole army of video tools, plug-ins and color correction filters was needed to optimize the video footage. Let’s hope that this video presentation is still entertaining although the video has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels only.
Often Norm Charbonneau’s model railroad layout “Greenbrook” has been featured in American magazines for rail transport modeling. The model train layout has attained iconic status in the world of 3-rail O gauge model railroading. Unfortunately, this amazing big steamers’ paradise no longer exists because Norm Charbonneau decided to build a new o scale layout.
It is the attention to detail and the passion to weather locomotives, trains and buildings that makes this model railroad layout so impressive. Everything - from the rails to the rooftops - has weathering effects ranging from a dusting of soot to a heavy cloak of grime. In addition, the combination of sound effects and steam generators integrated into the locomotives makes us forget that we are watching a toy train layout. Motive power, rolling stock and train sets consist of Lionel, 3rd Rail, Weaver, MTH and Atlas. The layout’s scenery, approximately 22 x 19 feet, was influenced by the major railroad junctions and marshalling yards in New England, Pittsburgh and Detroit. Finally, let yourself be enchanted by the magical clouds of smoke blown out by the steam locomotives.

For 3-rail O scale, this looks incredibly realistic. I actually thought this was an O scale 2-rail layout at first since those tend to be much more realistic from what I've seen. This guy went above and beyond with this, showing that O scale 3-rail can also be extremely serious as far as realism. Absolutely jaw-dropping.
This guy is crazy good with the realism. His youtube channel is fantastic too. Great 3 rail action!
Absolutely a beautiful o gauge three rail layout.
Norm, just incredible. Stunning work and detail. Fantastic weathering. Thanks for posting the video.
Norm always has great trains! I love seeing them!
This layout was awesome and spectacular! But now, he has an even better one!
Yes, the new layout is fantastic!
This train layout is mind boggling. I love the sound, beautiful, motive power etc. My one complaint is the huge out of scale coupler on the front of the diesels. Considering the cost of these fantastic scale locomotives, why doesn’t Lionel and other manufactures offer scale couplers for the lead diesel?
Thanks for posting.
Damn dude, you gave me a whole new perspective on three rail O scale. Gorgeous layout!
Very excellent paradise
Finally Scale Trains at scale speeds!! Magnificent… 90% of the stuff on CZcams; I think they are trying to reach Mach speed or how fast can they run trans without derailment. This footage was professionally produced! I know I teach how to do this properly. Only one trick not used that we do. I use a 4 or 6 foot tracker where a camera is mounted on a track as well and you can follow along What ever the speed… wonderful…,
That is a lot of great footage of Norm's old layout!!! Norm does great work which I hope to copy best I can . Thanks
Excellent modeling for an O-scale 3 rail layout. Really impressed with the scenery. I also really liked the Baldwin Centipedes. Very nice.
What a stunning layout..... can't wait to see more......👏👌👍🤟😎🎸☃️
I've never seen anything like it. wow! N scale model maker here... The set is ultra-hyper detailed, very fun and inspirational to examine. What's most impressive is the video production and Imagery. 🏆
Absolutely fantastic! Some very impressive steamers and brand new Diesels here (I guess this layout loosely represents the 1950s - no worries, I'm far from being a purist LOL). But my heart belongs to the old PRR steam workhorses. The 2-10-0 (I1) and the 2-8-0 (H8/9 I guess) are real beauties and your weathering is perfect!
Love the new update you done and thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much for replying to my comment. Wow as people are starting to come back there are so many great channel out there and It's nice to see other people's work to get idea to improve my Channel so this is Diesel dave signing off and always take care & stay safe.
Amazing....
Thank you Pilentum. Beautiful camera angles. This layout has beautiful multidimensional terrain and depth. I loved the motive power and both the steam and diesel smoke. Finally, the steam chuffs, horns, whistles, bells and radio chatter really added to the action. Very nice.
Norm is an artist.just great
Cordial saludo 🚂💛
Felicidades 😊✔️💯💯🤗
Beatiful, impressive layout, trains and scenery. The sounds are super!! Thanks👍👍👍
Amazing! Thank you Pilentum for sharing this with us...
Thanks for watching, Steve!
Beautiful! Except for the track.
Yes, the 3-rail-track is very strange :-)
Totally impressed as always. You're work is second to none Norm!
Brilliance! 👏😌
Very very nice.
Great layout ! Love those steam trains 🚂😊💕
Amazing on every aspects ! Congratulations
Thank you!
Incredible talent making this spectacular Train layout, Mr Charbonneau. You have a nice collection of Train Engine types. Two of them I recognize. The engines were in a transportation museum in Denver. All of the details with the buildings and landscapes are beautifully accomplished.
The audio was wonderful. Hearing how each one sounded. Loved the camera angles and lighting. The best part, or one of them, was seeing all of the smoke stacks on the "coal" powered engines.
Thanks for this magnificent video.
Norm’s the best. Still my favorite layout. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, Jim!
Bravo !!! Continuez à me faire rêver , moi qui arrive au crépuscule de ma vie, Merci
Pure magic thanks
Great video. You must have love your trains as you were growing up. You must have lots of help built this great outlet in your basement. Thank you for letting us see your video. 👍👍👍
Tremendo!! Impresionante el vapor!! 👏👏👏👏
AWESOME VIDEO.
Bellissimo video con locomotori veramente belli anche nei particolari, ma anche il paesaggio è molto bello, sembra di vedere i locomotori di un tempo, molto realistico anche il fumo che esce, grazie
Grazie, Roberto! Veramente, il fumo è bellissimo!
This layout is magnificent. My one complaint is the huge out of scale couplers on the front of the diesels. Why doesn’t Lionel and other manufactures offer scale couplers for the front of diesels? They do on steam locomotives.
Thanks for posting. I love it.
Muito bom mesmo ❤ amei,❤
太厲害了 這個細節 加上這個蒸氣 絕對是大師 🥳

Phantastisch 🤩
Man yr videos are awesome
Phantastic layout with incredible focus on detail,, only point of criticism is the use of 3 rail track. That ruins the otherwise perfect illusion.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
@@TheSuperStarCarWash thanks
Hello ! I guess that the O scale in the US is 1/48, not 1/43 like in Europe ! Very impressive model railway ! Thank you for this video !
greetings from France 😃 !
謝謝!
不得不说:非常感谢!
By far one of my favorites although that UP stuff looks a little out of place.😉
J😊ust beautiful. Way too noisy for me. No clicky-clack.
Bachmann train good 👍 24.06.2022
Is O scale equivalent to 1-48 scale ???
To everyone that has an issue with the track, get bent!
It is sad that those who control the train constantly either push the horn or ring the train bell, it sounds like hell and you have to turn the sound off to be able to stand it. Sad
They look so stupid with the 3rd rail and as for the smoke, I was doing that when I was 8 with my old Hornby set. Surely by now they would have added appropriate colour to the smoke!!
Please Show us your layout. Must be much better. The one shown here is absolute great.
Thanks, Jan!
Thoese big boys and the allegheny definitely do not fit the scenery back ground it looks more like a northern Ohio or Michigan setting back ground but don’t misunderstand the city scenes and background scenery is well done the majority of three rail layouts that i see for the most part look toyish but to each his own its nice to see at least even though we are a small Minority of modelers to see work being done almost to prototype. I am curious as to what those two rail modelers would have to say if anything about this work!!!
Pretty soon this hobby is going to pay carbon tax.
Absolutely a beautiful o gauge three rail layout.
