I used to watch T.V. but now I am addicted on you tube especially, your channel. these lessons are addictive. Is this write? And the other thing is we use ads for commercial break. like Mr. Mark Thank you dears and wish you all the best.
As a kid there were only a few channels available whereas today with all the streaming platforms available I can just binge watch the TV series I' m into in one go. I watch a lot of TV ...for sure. Not the actual, normal TV, live broadcast.
It was the same for me when I was younger. If you plugged in a TV in the UK, you got just 5 channels. It also meant that everybody was probably watching the same TV show every evening and then could talk about it the next morning, but now all my friends and family are watching shows I've never even heard of!
Thank you for your excellent English lessons on ‘Life of Free.’ Your teaching has significantly improved my skills, and I’ve achieved great success thanks to your guidance. I appreciate your dedication and support. Keep up the fantastic work! ❤
Thanks Kat and Mark, once again, great lesson. I love the way you pull on expressions that are so interesting and sound usefull. You are awesome. Quick comment, similar to UK's 'Telly' short name for Television, we use in Mexican spanish 'Tele', for the same. God bless you.
Thanks a bunch. It was a great video. I learned a lot idioms, phrasal verbs about watching TV.all of them were interesting. Live TV,streaming TV,cable TV and Double screen, triple screen, one sitting...all were interesting. Again thank you so much for your kindness ❤
Another excellent episode! Thank you for all your great videos! I enjoy almost every evening with high level listening and I think my English is getting better with each episode. Greetings from the Czech Republic!
I'm into the slow burn crime thrillers and I tend to binge watch TV series. I cannot help watching episode after episode. I'm also in love with epic fantasies and so far I have watched Game of thrones twice, among many other ones. Now I am reading the Song of Ice and Fire by G. R.R. Martin which the series is based on. What I promised myself is to read all the books avoiding being stuck on the unknown words, but underlining only a dozen of them per book, including the lines I love the most and up to now I managed to read the first one entitled Game of Thrones. To be sure I can get the correct pronunciation, I rely on audiobook versions so that I can read the actual words on paper while listening to them.
Wow thank you for writing so many great sentences! I think Kat actually did the same thing with Game of Thrones - unfortunately she is still waiting for the next book and it's been quiiite a while ha. I've heard that the audiobooks are excellent, as are the Lord of The Rings ones!
•Blow through •binge through •in one go• in one sitting • flick over • double screen • have it on • rewind I love watching TV, especially TV shows. At least it does not need to look it so closely and hurt our eyes that much:) though , often I am watching them again by internet now :)rewinding or fast forwarding the recordings sometimes . if I like the series , I can blow through most of it in one go as well. Though to find good show is difficult to me. Sadly ,They are full of so much unnecessary staff:( I definitely won't be hard on myself that much if I use a subtitle again:)
@@highlevellistening thank you! Yes, I know!:) Actually, I do not use the subtitle for other staff, not even for documentaries. But Movies are other phenomena. Like connected speech and so on maybe. It is like not English, but another language.😁and definitely needs some training or do not know what:). I watch now without subtitle to get accostom, though I like using subtitle as I can zoom in on new vocabulary .
Hi Kat and Mark! First of all thanks for the useful videos. In my opinion a summary the most used tenses would be nice for most of us.Grammar could be scary to every learners.
Your concept is great; congr!!! I‘m definitely addicted to your episodes; I hear all the time - KEEP WATCHING KEEP LISTENING! 😍 Regards from Warsaw/Poland
Hey Mark and Kat, I love your videos very much! Could you provide some lessons about Job Interview? I think, this kind of lesson will be very popular for the english learners❤
Thanks. You even turn on substitle😂😮. Pink Floyd's song is Nobody Home: 🎶"I got 13 channels of ... on the TV-choose from". they taught having really too many alternatives😅
I usually choose movies over tv shows. because I don't really like watching something that goes on for too many episodes. That's why I prefer watching movies that I can finish in one sitting.
I definitely understand, sometimes I don't have time to sit and watch lots of episodes or get too invested in something, just something quick and easy and 90 minutes, haha
In my view, your channel has all practical vocabs and phrase and also idioms that everybody needs to learn English. I’rather watch your lessons than streaming services.
@@highlevellistening 'gay musical, called gay.... that's quite gay....' I still remember Roy's face when he say that. hahahaha Thank you teachers anyway, I listen to you guys' pod cast every single day, it really is helpful and i find myself really like listening to this while i commute everyday in the morning. Big appreciation from korea!!
@highlevellistening My god, didn't even know that Moss has been married and got his daughter! :)) well It is almost unbelievable for me to hear something like this news, because I have been a big fan of your pod cast and also the big fan of IT crowd, and somehow there is a connection with you teachers and this IT crowd actors! ;)) thanks for your kind reply and I will keep listening to this great English lesson from you guys. ^^
Almost! I think I would say: "Flicking through [channels / the TV]." Some other ones that come to mind are: "Sitting on the sofa, flicking through channels." "I was flicking through the TV one night when I came across this really interesting documentary." We didn't end up including it in the episode, but we wanted to add "channel-hopping" in here, but it's basically the same thing as "flicking through channels". :)
Good question! This is an example of a grammar rule that is broken by native speakers *very* often. A: "How many slices of bread are left?" B: "There's 3 slices left." Even though 3 and 'slices' is plural, we will use "There is". This is especially true when we use specific numbers (like in the example you mentioned.) "There's 5 bus lines that stop near my house." "There's 2 or 3 taxi numbers you can call." "There's about 17 people in my extended family." At HLL we're trying to provide you with natural and authentic English as often as we can, and that includes the little "mistakes" that native speakers make in casually spoken English. Hope that makes sense!
Great question! Usually when we have two verbs we’ll conjugate the first one but there’s no need to change the second. My teacher lets me read during the break. (Present) he let me read during the break (past) He lets the TV run all night. (Present) He let the TV run all night (past) Hope that helps you compare the different times we use it! ☺️
Good question! Both 'distinctive' and 'distinct' are adjectives, but they have slightly different meanings. 'Distinctive' means something that is characteristic or unique, making it easy to recognize. For example, 'Flamingos have distinctive pink feathers'. (Other birds don't have pink feathers, so everybody knows a flamingo when they see one). 'Distinct' means something that is clearly different or separate from others. For example, 'The two flavors of ice cream are distinct; one is vanilla, and the other is chocolate.' Hope this helps! 😊
Most of our students enjoy taking their daily topics to the next level with naturally spoken English in both American and British dialects and learning it through English which increases the difficulty. Most people don’t use advanced topics in daily speaking but I’m sure we’ll eventually get there as we make videos every week ☺️
I live the way you 2 teach! Thanks!

"in one go" and "flick over" both of which I've learned from this great content thanks

Could you explain why in the following constructions “let it run’, “ let TV run” we use “run” ? Why not “runs”?
Thanks:)
Great question! Usually when we have two verbs we’ll conjugate the first one but there’s no need to change the second.
My teacher lets me read during the break. (Present) he let me read during the break (past)

Why don't you take advanced topics to introduce advanced vocabulary?
Most of your topics are around intermediate
Most of our students enjoy taking their daily topics to the next level with naturally spoken English in both American and British dialects and learning it through English which increases the difficulty.
