  • “Trauma is at the root cause of most mental health issues.” - Ilene Smith.
Trauma extends beyond its impact on our minds and can profoundly impact our bodies.
When we experience trauma, our body's stress response is activated as a means of survival. After the traumatic event has passed, we might remain in this stress response, suffering from nervous system dysregulation and hormonal imbalances, causing anxiety, depression, physical pain, PTSD, and other psychological and physiological symptoms.
By using somatic therapy, we can reprogram this survival response and move out of the persisting fight or flight cycle. Using techniques such as breathwork, meditation, and self-massage, somatic therapy can help us to release stored trauma by helping us to regulate and rebalance our nervous system.
