They shouldn't put timers in videogames. Videogames are supposed to be fun and allow people to unwind. Timers stress people out.
What really boils my blood is when you have a time limit to complete something in a game and when you have completed said thing, the god damn timer continues to countdown even though there is nothing you can do at this point other than to hope the game stops the timer before the timer goes out. Take the final mission of Simpsons hit and run. You have to deliver a car under a time limit into a space ship but even when the space ship starts bringing the car up into the ship with some sort of tractor beam the time doesn't stop until the car is In the ship.
Or in Kingdom Hears, where you have to beat several enemies under a time limit. But some of the bigger enemies you defeat feel the need to have a whole desth animation before the timer pauses until the next fight

Rouge & Knuckles’ levels were an exercise in testing my lack of patience. In a game where we expect “gotta go fast” they really took that away from us if you weren’t Sonic or Shadow.
I'd like to point out that the name Caladbolg is not just "random letters thrown together", it's the name of a mythological sword from the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology. It was wielded by Fergus mac Róich. Final Fantasy likes using names of mythological weapons for some of the weapons in the game, another such example being Excalibur.

Labyrinth Zone was a literal Time Crisis.
#8 i've heard that it's possible to cheat that mission, by walking into the building yourself, and killing the workers, before launching the helicopter.
#2 there's a really frustrating area in Sonic Mania where you have to go up a vertical shaft full of water, using some moving platforms that have a VERY large chance of CRUSHING you if your jumps are not PERFECT.
oh, and there are no Bubbles there, so you get only ONE attempt per LIFE.
unless you ENTER the room when the platforms are in just the right spot, you're screwed.
ironically, it's much easier when playing as Knuckles or Tails, since you can just fly, or climb the wall, ignoring the moving platforms!
Let’s talk about the weather; specifically 8 times where the in-game weather blew us away. (See what I did there?)
Suggestion: Video games you're better at when you are bad at them (meaning the game being more fun to play or actually somehow easier when the player just can't figure out how anything works)
reminds me of several old arcade games: if you get almost all the way through, lose a life, and restart, several times, you can get a higher total score than if you play it perfectly!
BUT, this won't work if you run completely out of lives and "continue", that resets your score to zero.

Definitely this, although IIRC a lot of the timed missions in the game were like that. You'd barely have enough time to get to a destination, and if there's a cop right at the goal, good luck losing the tail in time.
Kind of surprised the dam level from the NES Turtles game wasn't on here, but I can see these others being rough as well.

8 most brutal gotcha moments in video games
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought Hard Mode Sewer Escape was nigh-impossible in the Ratchet & Clank remake.
Driving mission 34 sounds like a torture scene from a movie not only do you have to do a full lap on nurburgring. Which can take up to 20 minutes depending on how many laps there are but also having a race handicap which you have to still finish AND win the race. Oh by the way you have to have a perfect lap and cannot under any circumstances go off the track or bump the lead car.Imagine if this was somebody's final test to get their driver's license IRL,but instead of a racetrack you have to do a whole lap on a busy street i guarantee you most people would probably prefer to walk, ride their bike,scooter,skateboard.Or say fuck it take an Uber or any other ride service that's available.
10 games that were before was a thing. For example, Majora's Mask was a time loop game before time loop games were a thing.

I actually loved the sewer run in ratchet & clank though, I never had trouble running through it. But now I do Strongly agree with final fantasy x chocobo race...I spent hours and days trying to get this finished. I even was so desperate and irritated with this I tried to find cheats to finish this race satan decided to throw in ffx...

The alternate spelling is Caladcholg.
Gonna be honest, the first time I got past that sewer section in the original Ratchet and Clank was due to accidentally discovering a bug where you can clip through the ceiling at one part, allowing you to get out of the map and skip straight to the elevator at the end.
It's also kind of funny that you guys used clips from the 2016 game for that part of the video, considering in that version that section is way much easier.
The worst timed section I've ever come across in a video game is in the mission Race against time on Ps2 Spiderman game, in said mission Spidey must fly through the air to a few different skyscraper buildings to disarm bombs scattered throughout the city not only that but each bomb is heavily guarded by kill bots & with such a short amount of time doing this before the bombs go off is painfully agonising
i got so pissed at Sonic during that level that the cops were called on me for screaming too loud

My dad gave up on GTA Vice City because of Demolition Man. After some practice with the chopper and many attempts later, I beat it on my file no problem. And my second and third playthroughs of GTA VC I beat the mission first try. But by then I was *extremely* good at the game and a total champ at flying. Really you just have to get used to the RC chopper controls and stay high enough to keep out of range of the construction workers trying to beat you down.
No shot out to the Dam level in OG TMNT on NES?
The Doom 2016 Rich get richer rune trial on any difficulty is one of the most infuriating ruins to complete. And when you finally get it is nearly useless, no wait it is completely useless.
Okay, Jules, I’m sure you and your neck vein, Jeremy, know the drill by now. RPGs are fun, blah blah. But those of us who played Final Fantasy III/VI, Chrono Trigger, and/or Secret of Mana are grown up now, yada yada. Now that we have jobs and/or families, we don’t have time for a The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or an Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, etc etc. So, we’d appreciate a list of Great RPGs for Working Adults, and so on and so forth.
I've done the chocobo race in ten at least twice now, and it took me less than an hour both times (from start including the training levels to finish) while that stupid lightning minigame was always worse to me. Chocobo just took a little luck and knowing what you had to do. 200 lightning dodges is cruel punishment

All timed sections are annoying and stress inducing in games 😢
There are some VERY tough time-restrained missions in Destiny 2, from Zero Hour to Whetstone with combat and platforming issues for you and 2 friends to blitz as quickly as possible. Usially theyre quite tough when they first come out but even after meta strategies there are plenty of players having hardships pursuing the completion in time

In case this topic is revisited, I'd like to suggest the bathyspheres from the first Earthworm Jim. The things are made of glass (really smart move), and you have to navigate them through tight, winding corridors of underwater rocks. If you crack off of the sides of the rocks one too many times, the bathysphere will break. But fail to dock it at the next station in time, you run out of air. The amount of tries it took to get past that part as a kid was too many to count.

There's one in GoW that's even worse than the one you chose. You pull a lever and have to push a block to reach a ledge. Timer goes off and spikes come up, destroying you and the block

I feel like you missed the Knuckles/Rouge missions from Sonic Adventure 2. I know you mentioned Labyrinth Zone from Sonic 2, but that wasn't a whole timed level.
9:32 I immediately started panicking because I knew this was coming...
The tutorial in Driver (PS1) where you needed to perform a list of car movements in a time limit... and its the first thing you play. Having to reset and try again so you can not only learn how to drive the car but chain all the techniques smoothly in a time limit that was overly punishing... just to play the game. No tutorial skip.
I am only mentioning this one cause F1 racer Lewis Hamilton failed it in a CZcams video recently.

Titan Fall 2. The training course in the beginning of the game. It is the only trophy that is keeping me from the platinum.

I did everything in Arkham Knight except the Riddler Trophies. Absolutely no thank you.
i gave up after getting about 60% of them.
the rest were too hard or too obscure.
for example, there's one on the ceiling of the room where you fight the Arkham Knight himself.
if you MISS that, that is, don't pick it up DURING the fight, WHILE the Knight is shooting at you with a sniper rifle that can kill you in ONE hit, you would have to re-do ALL of those "have the Batmobile hang on the side of the rotating wall" puzzles just to get BACK there!
oh, and a few require you to get a perfect score on those "drive the batmobile on the wall of spikes" areas.
I must be a weirdo then because their my favourite sections of the Arkham franchise
@@ericb3157I did them all and you didn’t have to do all those batmobile things again to get back to that section you’re on about. I missed more than one thing there on first play through. There an elevator entrance to that section that takes you there. It’s the same elevator that Batman and Gordon use after you beat the Arkham knight in that area and find scarecrow on the roof.
@@jamesbourne256 nah each to their own man. I don't like puzzles in games and collecting items so it just didn't interest me. Others love that kind of stuff.

I played that Sonic game with save states so the underwater parts weren't that bad.

I seriously feel like I'm the only person in the universe who never had problems with Demolition Man. Start with the top level so you've done the farthest one away before they start to attack.

I always put timed combat and trap room escape scenarios in campaigns I run as a DM. Parties have died terrible deaths that could have been avoided but at least everyone learns a lesson... And I get to feed on the despair of my friends. Everyone wins.
