Jenny and her granddaughter Ashelyn are sewing up a simple skirt in this week's Children's Sewing Project! This project is as cute as it is quick to create!

Jenny, Thank You for featuring this adorable young lady in this skirt tutorial. It is mind boggling how many young women today have zero knowledge when it comes to sewing, cooking, housekeeping, budgeting, etc. Many of them don't even own an iron! It is extremely important that we teach children these badly needed abilities! They need to be self-sufficient in our challenging days. Schools no longer teach these life lessons (they haven't for a long time!). Again, thank you ❤

My Granddaughter Suvi who is 9 years old, just made her first quilt block (doll quilt) last month and as with every quilter’s heart, she wanted to give the quilt to her sister. She said, “Nanny, I never knew that quilting was the best sport ever”! Grandchildren are so precious.
Ashelyn, you did a beautiful job on your new skirt. You look like you really enjoy sewing and time with your Grandma. I loved sewing when I was young and sewed most of my clothes as a young adult. Even some of my work clothes. Keep learning and exploring sewing.
You are a wonderful teacher! You made a special memory with her.
I love this! My grandmother, who used to make quilts, had me sew a button, for my first sewing lesson, at around 7 or 8 years old. I did the same with my own granddaughter. It’s such a sweet memory.

My step-grandmother was my Jenny. She had a knitting and sewing shop in a small town in Texas, and would make clothes and blankets for all my My Little Ponies. During the summers, my cousins and I would visit them, and she would let us play in her shop on the weekends; we learned how to cross-stitch and sew small projects. We all need a Jenny in our lives.

Great tutorial with you and Ashlyn. So sweet to see her learning a wonderful craft from her Grandma. I also had my first taste of sewing a Barbie skirt with my Grandma (by hand) in the early 60s. I still have that skirt and still have that pony tail Barbie!! Ah lovely memories💕 . MY first machine sewing project in 7th grade Homemaking was an A-line skirt!! schools really need to bring these classes back!!

I have been sewing garments and quilts for over 55 years and I can't see myself doing anything else. My mother taught me how to sew starting at the age of 8 when I got my very own sewing machine. Not as nice as what she is sewing on, but it worked. She had patients of Jobe and sew do you. Kudos to both. Wish I had more teachers like you and my mother.

My grandmother taught me how to sew when I was younger and I cherish those memories today. I even have her sewing machine she taught me on. My grandmother taught herself how to quilt and I have some beautiful quilts she made. I learned how to quilt just recently and wished grandma was still here so we could quilt together.

Brilliant. You have so much patience. My 12 year old recently made a dress, many a cross word was said by me though, when she didn't quite understand what I was saying. She got there in the end and did well. I have bought her a second hand sewing machine for her birthday next week, to stop the taking it in turns to use mine.

Great tutorial. I can’t wait until my third granddaughter gets old enough for us to sew. My first two would not think of it. They want me to just do it for them. I just love the way you teach.
