They're so little and cute. You might consider using a much larger cage though. With some trees and lots of hiding places, toys, things to keep them occupied. Marmosets shouldn't be this calm. Boredom can actually cause Marmosets to become depressed. Also you should put them closer to a window so they can get vitamin d3 from the sunshine.

I had a little marmoset for 5 years actually brought her with me everywhere including work, restaurants and clubs even movies (she LOVED those). She had diapers of course. Never in a cage unless for her protection for a couple minutes if someone came to the house until they knew her. And if I went outside, she was with me on my shoulder and I could leave her on a chair and she would just wait for me not even trying to run away..Very intelligent, faithful, curious and loving.Missing my sweet angel ♥

Haha! Funny little thing. This is gonna be so random to everyone, but I was brought here because I was reading about the Battle of Lepanto (1571AD) in a book and it mentioned that one of the Spanish Captains had a pet marmoset on his ship and during the battle it was seen up on the mast pulling Ottoman arrows out and breaking them with it's teeth before throwing them into the water, playing it's own little part in the battle. I was like 'I've heard of a marmoset but I'm not sure what they are." I had to think for a while before I started to remember that they were monkeys, lol. Anyway, I had to check some videos out after reading that story. It never mentioned what became of the monkey, just that many people remember seeing it on the mast throwing the arrows during the fight. I admired how it was brave and seemed to understand what was taking place, so it took action instead of running to cower behind/underneath something. Awesome! Take care of those guys! I'm sure you've heard it before, but its sort of cruel to keep them as pets. However it DOES look as though they are happy under your care which is good, and I'm not suggesting you get rid of them, just be good to them.

These two monkeys are so cute. They definitely love being in their cage because they don't want to come out, this is what it's like with our dogs because they love being in their crates. They will sleep in their crates during the day, dogs love crates because crates make them feel safe. These monkeys feel safe in their cage.

I've always wanted a marmoset. I met one at, of all places, the Walmart parking lot yesterday. He was riding around on his person's shoulder. The owner of him told me that Sticks, the marmoset enjoys riding around the parking lot to look at people. What a little cutie he was!

  • @MisterrLukeyy

Everyone saying that this is inhumane and cruel, you are extremely wrong. Did you know that domesticated monkeys that were born in captivity have doubled lifespans then those born in the wild? Did you know that domesticated monkeys are a lot more happier and smarter then those in the wild? There is nothing inhumane about keeping monkeys as domesticated pets as long as the owners are extremely caring and loving and treat them as if they were a member of the family. People say the cage is tiny, if you look closely the cage is open and I'm sure its open at all times for them to come out when they want and play in a large space and have accessible food and water. I'm sure the owner only keeps it closed at night for their safety as I do with my caged animals. I have a huge room for my caged animals with plenty of toys and stimulating activities and ample supplies of food and water at all times and their cages are open at all times (unless one of the species is a danger to the others) so they don't feel confined to one place and have all the room they can have. So, for everyone saying this is inhumane, I believe supporting them to be in the wild is inhumane, they are much safer in the arms of their caring and loving human companions. Not somewhere that they have increased chances of disease and death. Of course, some species are meant to be in the wild as are these marmosets, but there are some species that would be just as happy in captivity such as these marmosets.

You've got an overly Romanic view of nature. If you want subject them to cruelty put them back in nature. The life of wild animals is hell, it's short, painful, and brutal.

    • @98Realm
      @98Realm Před 8 lety +2

The per trade is incredibly cruel for the monkey family and in most cases people who get them as pets don't know what the animals went through to get to thier homes. No, they don't want to commit suicide but there are obvious complications with taking a wild animal away from its natural habitat. The only okay reason I see to own an exotic animal such as the marmoset would be for rehabilitation or conservation of the species.

awwww... Can't you make them a bigger cage? They would be really happy if they could swing in the branches of a small tree or some hanging ropes. They need to maintain good strenght by lifting their body weight as they climb or swing. That is good for their health.

There are alot of variables, in a perfect world monkeys would only be in the wild. But I would rather see a monkey as a pet than a medical experiment. With their habitats being destroyed eventually only zoos and private owners will have them.

My house acts as a cage so that my dogs and cat do not get free(and hit by cars/frozen in winter). As long as the animals are properly maintained and they get attention and stimulation cages are great places to keep animals. Dogs and cats if let free(to roam the neighborhood unsupervised) cause trouble.

Though I don't support illegal trade of species the truth is that in Venezuela, from where I am, these monkeys are common pets of indigenous people, if you live in a South American country, especially in the countryside, these animals are almost inexpensive to maintain, the problem as usual is that they are pets for trained people in the matter and yes its trade should be regulated by the governments to ensure a system of captive reproduction that could serve as well to for the study of the species, instead of an industry based on poaching that is what usually happens.

My friend has two marmosets and she leaves the cage open at all times so they aren't confined to one place, she has a proofed room with cat towers, swings and a bunch of stimulating toys. Which I'm sure this owner has.

If you're 12 I would highly advise against getting a primate. They require more care than you would imagine. What are you going to do when you must be in school and they need care? I am skeptical about a 13 year old being able to care for one as well. The parents must do the majority of the care if that is the case.
If you are purchasing a primate its highly recommended to get 2, since just one may cause many mental disorders due to lack of socialization with its own kind.

Get them a bigger cage or find them a better environment they’re very intelligent animals and require very intense and expensive environments to keep them pleased they constantly looking for objects that keep them challenged and interested if you could put tree branches or limbs in their cage if you could give them little bowls or cubes or bowls that fit into other cubes they need more. They’re already caged up and they’re probably feeling miserable inside even if they appear otherwise

No one can truly say an animal is unhappy unless they express it in a way we know.
Also, I'm sure they are only in the cage at night to sleep and are out during the day.
You may also have to consider they are rescues and this person is running a private Wildlife Rehab Center. Animals like these that are rescued cannot be released back into the wild.
It's not a substitution, it's a second chance for these creatures, so don't judge so quickly.

let them out to play. they looknsad. very cute! Iif I hought a monkey I would get a marmoset as well. I wonder if marmosets are more $ than capuchin or vervet nor spider monkey. these ones are more calm, smaller n I haven't heard of one incident that a marmoset bit his or her human owner yet.
