  • In January 2010, Xander Parish arrived in St Petersburg having left his secure job with The Royal Ballet for an unknown future with the Mariinsky Ballet. Ten years later, with an honorary doctorate and an OBE, he is a principal dancer with the esteemed Russian ballet company - the first and only British dancer to have achieved this position. In this short film, Xander shares his thoughts about his amazing journey over the last decade.

Xander embodies the quintessential male ballet dancer...he is physically gorgeous! and seems to have a lovely personality and exudes great joy. I love learning about him and wish him all the best in his life!

So pleased Xander arrived in Saint Petersburg. A valuable addition to the Mariinsky. Always enjoy watching him dance and hearing him speak about his experiences.

What a great guy! So humble and down to earth. Winsome. And of course a brilliant dancer.

He seems like a nice guy; and of course, daring to commit to the Marinsky, learn Russian, move, and honor Ballet, is tremendous. People this gifted, dedicated, have only 20-30 years prime. These are GREAT people.

Wow. I admire Xander even more now, after this interview. This must have been so scary- not only arriving in a country where you don’t know the language and can‘t even read the announcements. But also so many firsts for him to dance- new ballets that he probably didn’t know, first solos ever, first pas de deuxs ever since school... amazing how he managed these challenges!
