Back in the 80s revolvers were still standard issue for most police departments. It was mostly the military vets who gravitated to using semi-autos at first. By the early 1990s, most US law enforcement agencies had transitioned from revolvers to semi-autos. Influencing factors leading to law enforcement’s adoption of the semi-auto include the 1986 FBI Miami shootout, the US military’s transition to the Beretta 9mm and increased violence by drug traffickers.

I've often said Season 3 is my favorite for Jan's music. He created some bitchin' new tunes, brought back some classics and remixed 'em, and when Season 4 came around, Jan's music was noticeably different. You could tell when the first episode of Season 4 aired that Jan's music was on its way out unfortunately. Yet in Season 4 also he brought back some of his other classics from the other seasons before leaving the job to John Petersen for 13 episodes, coming back for the final 2 of S4, and finally leaving the series completely, being replaced by Tim Truman.
Season 3 is severely under the radar when it comes to Jan Hammer's MV compositions.

I want to say the “hero gun” was hobbled together from some leftover parts after D&D closed up.
Michael Mann wanted it to be all stainless to stand out during filming.
I recall a story about how Don Johnson lost a magazine standing on a dock and the magazines were so hard to get (D&D was shipping the pistol *without* magazines at one point) that it was cheaper for them to hire a diver to recover the magazine than to source a new one.

I think if season 3 kept some stuff from the first two seasons while trying to reinvent itself, it would have been far better for the series. I remember for some reason, season 3 episodes seemed to drag and get boring when compared to the bright innovations in the first two seasons. The darker clothes are fine, but somehow the episodes seemed weird for weirdness' sake and trying to be different from seasons 1 and 2.
