  • KAPPABASHI "Tokyo's Kitchen Alley "A CHEF'S DREAM STREET"
    Kappabashi-dori, also known just as Kappabashi or Kitchen Town, is a street in Tokyo between Ueno and Asakusa which is almost entirely populated with shops supplying the restaurant trade. These shops sell everything from knives and other kitchen utensils, mass-produced crockery, restaurant furniture, ovens, and decorations, through to esoteric items such as "fake food" or "food sample" stores as well.

    I would have a field day on that street! Hubby would have to drag me out of there by my feet. Loved the video, Drew!

    I would totally go broke not only from all the kitchen stuff but from all the cool stuff in that junk store you showed at the end. That's my kinda place. That reminded me of an old antique store here that I love to go to.
    As for all the kitchen stuff, I'm a bit weird.... I don't like to cook (even though I dabble) but I love kitchen gadgets and cook books and have quite the collection at home. I'd love to check this area out if I ever make it to Japan someday. Thanks for the tour.😊

    That very long knife is for sacrificing foods to the gods; that way the priest can sacrifice the food with only chopsticks and this knife so his hands don't dirty the food

    Love the ceramic and dinnerware shops. Would be great if u included the store name and street it is located on. I will be in Japan in early March. I want to go into every store that sell these! And I will if I can find them!

      Kappabashi is quite easy to find as it is a very popular street between Ueno and Asakusa. Sorry, but during this filming I really didn't pay attention so much to the store names as wanting to show what is available while leaving some mystery to visiting this area

    • @Tokyodrew
      @Tokyodrew  Před rokem +1

      My favorite store in Kappabashi is KAMATA Hakensha - Japanese knife store! Here is the website: www.kap-kam.com

    • @jcloiseau
      @jcloiseau Před 11 měsíci +1

      I can confirm kamata is great please for new knife buyer. They are more affordable and they can do special engraving on location. It's actually a fairly old store.
      If you want the best craftsmen and the price will go up, head up the street towards seisuke for example

      @Tokyodrew ...omg. Im glad to mentioned a specific store as I will not have much time when I go to Japan. This makes it so much easier for knife shopping! Thank you so much for this valuable piece of information!

      So I’ve purchased a 10” (260mm) santoku carbon knife at Kamata in Kappabashi.
      Thanks for all of your recommendations.
      Hoping to visit Sakai or Seki in search of the next one 😅
