Everytime I think the Pat Metheny Group can't surpass themselves musically from what they've created and played before, they do, without fail. ' End of the Game' is another unbelievably powerful, full bodied, multi dimensional masterpiece. WOW!!!
This is my favorite even over Are You Going…Me. About 4 months ago I ordered First Circle for this song. CD got scratched only on this song. I ordered it again am taking better care of it. I’d bet money that the driving composing was Lyle Mays it’s so melodic and ???? Just can’t explain it!!
@@andresa1963I saw them do this tune live in Princeton, NJ. 83 or 84. It didn't even have a title. Fantastic! Way more massive live. The drum sound at the end was unbelievable. Blew the walls off the place. I don't know why they didn't play the this tune more. It was incredible.
PMG is my favorite group of all time, and I don't think there will be another like it, especially now that Lyle is gone. The creativity, the blending of different styles, the Brazilian influence, the beautiful and sometimes crazy melodies, the lovely and mesmerizing vocal arrangements. Always something new, always something different. Truly a one of a kind group.Cannot be duplicated.
I have been a big fan of Pat for many years now, I had the opportunity to be at one of his concerts in Utrecht in Holland in the 80's which I still treasure to this very day. This wonderful artist has made a very big impression on my life and I enjoy his music every day.
Pat's music is certainly enjoyed by all of us no matter what part of the world you are from. I'm a lover of music soooooo different to Pat's you wouldn't think I would love his stuff but he's one of my favourite artist right at the top along with some George Benson etc. Goes to show you can't judge people by the way they look or what they listen to. Pat, you bring so much joy to my life.
This album was recorded & found on a cassette tape that was found in a BMW that my friend Tomas (toe-mass) stole in 1987 . . . I was not with him when he did it, but he did give me all the cassettes in a nice red cassette tape holder & a pretty bad ass skateboard with a skull on the bottom of it. I eventually bought a used copy of First Circle on CD from Aarons records in Hollywood needless to say they are no longer in business . . . Imagine that . . .
Been a fan for 30 years plus my favourite band ever seen them 12 times live and looking forward to seeing him in Coventry and the Barbican(the next day) in nov 17,had such a dramatic effect on my life more than anything or anyone his music touches every part of me and remains there forever.
Thanks for posting....When i first got this album on vinyl, i used to skip this track (shame on me). there was something grating about it; However, after resisting and listening more and more its now become one of my favorite Metheny tracks ; the guitar synth solo is SO awesome...let it rip!
Wow!!! Metheny his trademark is his sound, the combination of acustic and electric instruments set him apart from other musicians. I remember seen him in a concert in Strasburg France with The Pat Metheny Group, 3 hours of magnificent jazz and a transportation to other world. This guy is unique a truly great musician with all the guys that perform with him. Regards from Mexico!!!
havent listened to this for ages...fucking awaesome! forgot how good it is...love other bands tracks etc, but PMG is the only stuff that touches my soul, and takes me to places, other music cant.
One of his absolute best guitar synth solos imho, right there with To the End of the World (We Live Here), Third Wind (Still Life), Panama (with Gary Burton on Reunion), The Heat of the day (Imaginary Day), Story to a Stranger (Rejoicing), the Longest Summer (Secret Story), Question and Answer (Trio Live version from 2000) and Song of Moses (with Bob Moses). 💙🎶
Naughty - the menu pic makes it look like a live vid, which would be rare because they didn't play this one much. Instead it's the studio version. I can get that at home!
Even PM has said First Circle is one of his favourite albums, also David Blamires, Billy Childs, etc. Yet, it is somehow often overlooked by many PM fans🤔 it, and Travels are my favourites.
ha i don't even know how to describe how this music makes me feel..so strange. like i know someone might think its cheesy or something but i can't really care, because its feels so good. somehow i started to listening to pmg in my teens, like 13 .. I don't know whether its just because i was listening to it at that time, and music you hear at that age is always special for you, has an immediate effect on your nervous system, even many many years later..or maybe this music really is that special
saw him with Sanchez , Linda Oh and Gwiliam Simcock at Ronnie Scott's - wonderful set. He is a Legend and works with so many who benefit from his professionalism . ---Time he was Sir Pat Metheny !
What cd was this cut on? Pat Metheny is one of my all time favorite jazz artist :-) Saw them at Merry Weather post in Virginia in 96 and they got four standing ovations truly magical!
The drumming at the end is unison between Paul Wertico on drum set on his floor tom, and instrumentalist Pedro Aznar on huge tom toms with mallets. I saw this tune live, and you can't imagine how massive the drums sounded. Blew the walls off the place.
@vincentjacque j'entends ma mère ! MDR !
I love this song, so beautiful. I wonder who are the voices in the background that blend in so nicely with the music beginning @ 6:30 to the end. So smooth......
Hello…I seen Pat and the the guys do this performance at the Alpine. Unbelievable show. But to answer that question…That is Armando Marcal, great singer and musician. He does a lot of music with Pat but is famous also in Latin America…Peace.
Eric Ravitz Yes there is…There are no words sung, but towards the end of the song is Armando. He has a beautiful voice and he harmonizes a lot on Pats songs. He does sing a lot ,listen to 'The Dream of the Return' or "Vidala"…Peace.
Pedro Aznar and Armando Marcal are background vocals. I seen Pat Metheny,Lyle Mays,Steve Rodby,Paul Wertico,Pedro Aznar and Armando Marcal do the whole ' First Circle' concert at Park West in Chicago. I believe it was 1984. Unfucking real…Been listening since like 79-80…I have all his music and I have 3,000.00 in speakers Eric. So…yes there is vocals...
dan12959 Sorry…both Pedro Aznar and Armando Marcal were vocals and I seen the show at the Park West( not Alpine Valley ) Chicago, I believe it was84 cuz I seen the 'Off Ramp' show in 86. Anyway…Peace.
I’m being petty but I believe Straussburg is in Germany unless France somehow annexed it😉. Forgive a 70 year old Army brat who lived 3 years in Germany when her Dad was posted there 😊

Every Time..every song by PMG, new set of feelings and dimension. Life long fan I am. Thanks Pat et al paranormal music.
Pat is certifiably one of the greatest musical artists of all time. Lyle was equally great...always right in it.
When I was a D.J. in Honolulu, Hawaii for KHHH 98.5 (The Wave) in 1989, I would play this in my opening watch! Hours from 8PM-6AM
Oh hell yeah I am digin this song. So smooth

Once Music of PMG gets in your mind there is no return Jan. I am 63 now and listening to PMG since 1977. It has become a life philosophy for me.
I was very fortunate to see them perform at Bronco Bowl Arena in Dallas in '98; awesome show!!! R.I.P. Lyle Mays

true
stunning track from a incredible album. The magic these guys created is truly special(lyle mays rip)
Excellent night time driving score❤😊😅🎉
Excellent anytime score! IMHO
Awesome dynamics; Pat and the band evolve constantly, no matter the group's makeup. He's a giant, and they are too.

It seems like it was a dream ,Lyle,Paul, Pat and Steve. Such a dynamic, versatile band ,their music was always way beyond .RIP dear Lyle and Nana .
His collaboration with Justin Bieber is also very good, _Baby, What Did You Have For Breakfast Today?_ well recommended.
