      for whatever reason, when i select clipping mask and try to paint within the boundaries of the drawing underneath,it doesn't follow the contour. It just paints all over it like there is no clipping mask

    Hi Galen, thank you for sharing! I do have a question: when I was painting in the clipping mask, it was not possible to see what was being painted until I released the clipping mask and then I saw the bunch of strokes...

    So with text, you do the same thing only with a nice large blocky font. I'm trying to figure out how to get some words on a poster to "clip through" a layer that is basically a frame for the text, and to reveal the background layer of the image in the shape of the words. It's tough..

  • @connorvanvuuren6455
    @connorvanvuuren6455 Před rokem

    Thanks so much for that! Liked and subbed. Would you silhouette the arm as a different layer, or silhouette the whole character in its entirety?

    • @ArtbyGalen
      @ArtbyGalen  Před rokem

      It depends on the needs of the illustration, imo. If you know you won't need the character on multiple layers, then you can do it all on one layer. But if you need or prefer to keep it in different layers, there's nothing wrong with doing that, either. Thanks for the comment!

    how did he changed opacity while dragging the brush at 2:10?

    • @ArtbyGalen
      @ArtbyGalen  Před rokem

      Hey Alan! This was done with the pressure sensitive drawing tablet I use. With that brush, I have it set up to become more opaque the harder I press on the brush.

    How do I use a clipping mask on a GIF?

    • @ArtbyGalen
      @ArtbyGalen  Před 3 lety

      You would either need to do it in a video editing software that can edit gifs, or you would need to open your animation window in photoshop and apply the effect to every frame of the gif.
