REL Acoustics has completely updated the already awe-inspiring Serie S. The S/5 SHO is being replaced by the S/812, and the S/3 SHO by the S/510. Join Kevin and John to find out what's new and why you need a pair (or a six-pack!) of these in your system, no matter how great your loudspeakers are.

I have listened a lot recently to what John has to say and I must confess it makes sense to me. I am a physicist by training, a high-tech project manager in my job and a lifetime hi-fi enthusiast. John can articulate why a full-range audio experience is so much closer to real life. This is key. Everything we experience in real life is full range. Why not domestic audio?! I am considering a pair of S/510's to augment my KEF Reference 3/2's. And REL have been making subs - and ONLY subs - for 30 years with passion and focus. It is their world. That is a good reason to trust them, rather than a jack of all trades. Great video, Kevin! Thank you! I would love to see your new system! All the best, Rob

Question: you use the term ‘pressurize’, but excursion of drive units is as much going forward as it is going backwards - so no pressure?:-)

Would a pair of the REL S/510s mate well with the Klipsch AL5 LaScala? If yes, we could only place the left S/510 in a corner. The right speaker floats in the room with a decent open area to its right leading to a doorway into another room. The left speaker is 42" off the side wall and 15" off the back wall. The right speaker is also 15" off the rear wall and 78" off the doorway to its right. Both speakers are slightly toed in and they are spaced 8 feet apart from one another. Thoughts on this set-up and a pair of S/510 subs? Space for a large sub and budget pretty much negate any other REL choice.

Yes....sadly everyone thinks La Scala are huge so great bass. They need subs. And I would only use REL in that case. If you are in the USA contact us through the website and we can have a subwoofer expert reach out to you.

A REL Acoustics sub is fine if you're just listening to stereo playback. In the opening of the video they're talking about listening to music -- highly unlikely that it was coming from a BluRay, i.e., 5.1 content. I heard the old REL acoustics model that the S/812 replaces on a pair of B&W towers and it was very impressive (bass). I'm now considering buying the S/812.

When I was young and stupid I thought REL was something special, but these days nothing beats a JL Audio subwoofer. Even an RSL subwoofer is not a bad choice for majority of rational people who have to work a real job and live in the real world.

After dropping $4.5 K on REL subs verdict? Meh, decent sub, vastly over priced but, not any better than the competition.
I have a pair of S510's and TX9's. Both have more than enough bass to balance out with huge towers. The S510's have impact that hits you. To me the subs sound lose, nothing tight about them. Overall-- beautiful, good amount of bass, lose overhang, vastly overpriced.
