Reality is no matter where a person goes everything becomes the same. People will always be "searching". You can move to every place on this earth and you will eventually fall into a routine. The beauty of life is having peace within. As long as you have that it doesn't matter where you are at. This is not directed at James per se, it's just life perspectives. Pattaya is fun at first but it gets old fast. The bars, the traffic, the pay to play becomes very boring. People hangout in bars every day. If you're in Thailand, the best thing to do is travel and site see, otherwise the lifestyle gets very boring.
My wife who is Thai and myself are getting bored of Pratamnuk. Like it here a lot but it's a big world out there. Routine can wear a man down. After a trip back to Canada this summer moving to Samui for a change of scenery. After that? Who knows. Maybe another country for a while. Need to have new experiences.

Had a condo in Chiang Mai since 2004. I really hate bars where bar girls work. I prefer bars where they serve food and only can fit 20-30 people. You can mingle and enjoy yourself. Maybe try other parts of Thailand?

There's another vet van lifer I started following recently who's based in Oregon. He's been visiting some really beautiful forest preserves in his area. I actually told him to reach out to you for more info since he'd like to move to a country like Thailand or the Philippines eventually. He couldn't afford rent anymore on disability so he ended up in a van on his social security. I hate seeing so many folks in the US ending up in their vehicles due to rent costs. I was looking into it for myself, but my brother needs regular housing. If you're feeling restless, have you visited any of the cave systems in different countries? Some of them are huge and they have special tours for the public.

I did Sunrise once a week. There weren't too many taco options in BKK near where I was living. I wasn't picky. For being in Thailand it was damn good enough.
Oil changes typically $40-75 depending on type of oil. Good vibe though.

James, check that law about capital gains tax. I was told that it doesn't apply anymore. I was told by two people, my old boss who sold his house and also my tax advisor. But I will follow up to be sure.
If you lived in the home 2 of the last 5 years you don't have to pay it. Also if you purchase another home. Neither applied to me.

My last service on my car was £1000, wasn't even a big service, plus had a diagnostic done last week because of check engine light cost £200 for 2 hours it took to plug it in😮

Do a road trip in Australia or grab a Toyota camper can and travel around Asia. Then you can go from Indonesia to Vietnam and everywhere in between. Drive to Port Dickson in Malaysia then get a ferry to Samatra and go from there to Bali.

Grab's improving. Last time in Pattaya, Grab was cheaper for one of my trips than Bolt. Grab and Bolt both take credit cards. Vastly better than having to mess about with cash. (And those Thai-only QR codes are just pointless junk for most of us.) All the better if you have a credit card that gives bonus points for transport services. (Though that doesn't work for Bolt, because Bolt doesn't code its industry correctly.)
I use Thai QR codes almost everyday. You sure you've been to Thailand 🤔🤣

@@ChocolateManInThailand From what I've heard, the bureaucracy of Thai banks is insane, the difficulty for foreigners opening accounts varies from branch to branch, the interest rates are crap and the credit cards are lousy. Far less hassle and far better value to just use US credit cards wherever possible, such as on Bolt, Grab, MRT, bus to Pattaya, etc, and use cash for the rest.
Gee I wonder if there's someone who lives in Thailand and has made videos about how easy it is...nah probably not. Keep going with what you "heard."
