    While on our Viking ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn, our host in Estonia informed us our arrival was perfect timing to celebrate Jaanipäev. Every summer on the longest day of the year, Estonia, and other northern European countries, celebrate the beginning of summer with massive fires all over the country.

    Hello! This is an amazing story of how I found your channel. I was in meijers today, in Grand Rapids Michigan, and I was returning pop cans. The reason I am doing that is because I am going on a trip to Argentina next summer for a school trip, and so I am raising money for that. My dad was there helping me return them, so we where taking up two machines. My dad doesn’t like doing that when there is a line, and there was a line starting to form. So he stepped away from the machine and let this girl go. Well this girl was going, my dad told someone about my trip. After this goes, she was really appreciative. We then find out that her sister travels around the country after saving up for several years. This very generous girl gives us your card that has a bar code on it for your you tube channel, THEN she also gives me her bottle slip. Which I really really appreciate, because every little bit helps me reach my goal. Any ways I thought I would come and subscribe to your youtube channel, and say you have an amazing sister!

      Best story ever! Your first sentence is the most Michigan thing I have read in about a year and I love it. Nothing makes us more happy than hearing about someone taking their first trip abroad. Amber has amazing sisters who do everything they can to help us continue traveling and we would not be where we are now without a little bit of help from a lot of people. Have the most fun on your trip to Argentina!

    I would say that Midsummer is more celebrated than Christmas in Estonia.
    Also, there is a reason why the city felt so empty - it's basically only non-Estonians who stay in the city during Midsummer and the bulk of Estonians all retreat to their country cottages and different village Midsummer parties.

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE
      @SOSASATSUNRISE  Před rokem +2

      If we ever come back during Midsummer, we would love to go the smaller towns and celebrate in a more local way. We still had a great time in the city and are so thankful we picked that week to visit! Thanks for watching😃

      @@SOSASATSUNRISE it's the same in Finland. Finland celebrates it on a weekend, so the dates varies.

    • @clopec
      @clopec Před rokem

      A lot of the tourists come from Finland and Sweden, who tend to celebrate Midsummer on their summer cottages. So there were fewer tourists than normal too.

    Thank you for this video, it was a wonderful tribute to my home town! I have lived away from there for 28 years now so it was wonderful to see it again and admire the Old Town again. I miss it the most, no other place I’ve visited has had such lovely historic views.

    I was just in the beginning thinking that at least here in Finland, the midsummer feast empties the cities completely, it might be hard to find anything open at that point, as many restaurants just close to enjoy the feast :D People just head to their summer cottages near lakes with friends, and celebrate by drinking and swimming and going to the sauna for all day, and grilling.

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE
      @SOSASATSUNRISE  Před 8 měsíci +1

      We thought the same thing! It reminds me of our 4th of July celebration. Most people go to their cottages or grill out in the backyard. Luckily, we were able to take part in this celebration with the locals in the city. Given the opportunity, we would love to celebrate outside the city the proper way!
