  • Our electricity bill has been through the roof so we decided to try installing Sense Home Monitor to track what in our house is breaking the bank. After a few weeks of tracking our electricity usage we were surprised with what we found! We are saving over $100 a month with a simple change.
    Use discount code GRAYHOUS for $25 off Sense - store.sense.com?aff=5
    Plus, there is a brand new feature called Sense with Dedicated Circuit Monitoring that allows you to isolate one breaker or circuit to monitor independently of the rest of the house.

    Nice video. I am thinking of doing this to not only learn where my electricity is being used, but also with a view to installing solar. This should totally help determining what size set up is needed and things such as minimum inverter size to cover the power when it's at it's peak.

    I install these along with solar power. Sometimes they can really help identify stuff like your dehumidifier. I think it's a worth while investment, but it's not going to revolutionize your house. With the extra solar CTs you can see your production vs usage, which is pretty nice. The Sense uses 'machine learning' (Sense's words) to determine what a device is. It gets better over time and they are updating it, but it's still not 100%. I'm no expert, but I think it senses the frequency waves of devices and compares it to other people's Sense data.

    Great video. Thanks. I have a very similar setup from a panel perspective as you do in that it is recessed with drywall around it. I was wondering how you connected the antenna relative to inside or outside of the panel and just what it looks like? Thanks!

    • @GrayHouseStudio
      @GrayHouseStudio  Před 3 lety

      That was a bit confusing when I read the instructions. There aren’t too many breaker panels that have exposed walls in Houston. I started by drilling a hole in the front of the panel to mount the antenna through and the signal was still weak. Once I noticed the signal on my phone was horrible too I added a WiFi extender in the garage and realized I could leave the antenna of the Sense Monitor in the wall attached directly to the Sense orange box and bypassing the antenna extension cable.

    You have a lot more going on than that little humidifier unless that thing is shorting out. My house is 3300 sq ft under roof. 3 big bedrooms, 2 big bathrooms 2 whirlpool refrigerators, one whirlpool freezer and one of those water coolers that hold a 5 gallon jug. whirlpool Washing machine and whirlpool gas dryer. attached 2 car garage and detached 2 car garage. My average daily usage is 10kwh. Pilipino wife and mother-in-law both home cooking cleaning gardening everyday. They have rice cookers, hot air cookers, toasters and crock pots going almost everyday. Yours is 81kwh.

    650W is very high for a dehumidifier, that's like having an electric heater on all day. Must be stuck on laundry mode. Maybe a smaller 200-300W device is a good compromise, it might even keep the right humidity setting after a blackout.

    There are roughly 30.4 days in a month your bill says you used 2,448kwh used in total
    2,248/30.4= 80.52
    That would mean you'd have to be using 80.52kwh a day thats 3.33 kilowatts every 60 minutes thats roughly equivalent to running a mid sized 26,000 btu ac unit continuously how in the everloving fuck
