The point is, Murray was the biggest trouble of all this
Let it just be that way. Mystery. That's a better way to preserve it. So when asked we can simply say I don't know. But the movie was good, been watching it several times now
Did you ever finish the movie?
Your stupid... mystery? People wanna know what happened, could bring up ancient techologies that can help us live better lives and help agriculture... your really foolish, scared of the truth
I'm Brazilian and heard some local people saying Fawcett's family is not interested in providing DNA material to elucidate the case because they profit on this story. The youngest son wasn't in the expedition and wrote a book about it, they want to keep it alive
We’ve heard something similar. Wouldn’t surprise us in the least if it were true.
@@ThatWasHistory How come dude?
I watched the film. I didn't know about the sad ending. That ending broke me. This type of film or books wake my Human Spirits. Every discovery they talk about in the book or film, i celebrate that moment in my mind.
Didn't you know that no one ever found El Derado? That should do it but its still sad, I kinda want it to be a fantasy but the ending is fine
In the end of the movie it's implied that Fawcett found Z and decided not to come back.
Mine too i hoped better ending but.... So sad i just watched film ryt now . ......
Sumit Maurya
You mean a happier ending? Because the ending was great nonetheless
Sad Ending? The movie ending implied that he found what he was looking for and decided to stay, hence the whole compass scene.. ..However in real life, him, his son and his sons friend (not mentioned in the movie) were most likely killed and eaten by a hostile tribe the peaceful ones warned them about.. Over 1000 people were sent to look for them and over 100 people died in the process, but no-one cares about that
He was to experienced with that Jungle and the natives to all of the sudden fall victim. He gave false information regarding the location of Dead horse camp. The location he writes in coded letters to his wife is not even close to the dispatches he sent back to England. My theory is he found it. And he realized what would happen to the jungle and all of its native people if he told the world of his discovery. They would be destroyed.
But wasn’t his whole point was to prove everyone wrong and let the world know that he discovered it? I mean then again they also made it seem like he had sympathy for the Indians & their way of life,
Except we would have discovered it by now if that was the case. Sorry, not sorry.
I believe so too. A Brazilian medium called Desenir Esteves nickname: (Deusinha) believes that Fawcett found the place, but that this place exists in another frequency and dimension. And he's still alive, but they kept him so he doesn't reveal the mystery. Remembering that while some believe this to be a delusional story, the spiritual realm takes this hypothesis as reality.
@@txekoratsu what dminesion bro? lmao
@@tekiero not the same one you’re still in, clearly.
Imagine going out with two family members in the Amazon basin with all the tech and gear we have now. It'd be a tremendously scary pursuit. Now, imagine floating down in rafts that had openings in the bottom and getting into rivers that flowed this and that in tributaries you'd have to walk through in 1925. In 1925. With just a mattress. No motorized craft. With your son and his friend. With little food and clean water. And having to give gifts to every tribe or tribal member you met.
The fact they survived to the more than 3 marked spots is an accomplishment in my book.
More than 70-80 adventurers died just trying to find and rescue them.
I believe there are lost civilizations in the Amazon. But they're more than likely covered in tons of dirt and sediment from the rivers that rose and fell. In 1925, if a golden city was still above ground.. it'd would have been found by archaeologists or farmers. Unfortunately, the great rain forest has become a large cattle farm.
He found evidence at a time when the land was just being surveyed. That's a tremendous find. His multiple expeditions were great feats and he should be more than respected.
*civiliSations
My friend, I agree with everything you said. I just don't agree when you said that the Amazon has become a big cattle farm. I'm Brazilian and I can tell you that at least 80% of the forest is intact, and it still holds many mysteries.
@daviserra8794 it has turned into alot.of farm land but no where near what he claimed. They are finding more and more places of worship/ruins because of.the clearings for farming purposes
I read somewhere that one of the chiefs told Percy that if they continued to go further in the jungle they’d risk losing their lives bc of the war tribes they’d be running into but Percy didn’t listen. My guess is that they died from the jungle. Disease, wild animals, etc. They could’ve also been eaten by another cannibal tribe.
My wife's Father, Harry O'Sullivan was an interpreter/barber on board a ship that sailed Col. Percy Fawcett and his son up the Amazon River to Manaus, Brazil. He cut Col. Fawcett's hair on a previous voyage and was one of the last white man to see them alive when he cut their hair before they disappeared into the juggle.
That's really neat! Did Mr. O'Sullivan have much to say about Col. Fawcett?
Only that he was a great explorer and surveyed the borders of Sth America and that he was looking for a white tribe and civilisation. He never seemed to get ill although many of those around him did. My Father called the Motto Grasso, the Green Hell. I was only a child and I wish I took more notice of my Father when he spoke of his time in Sth America, but he did talk about the seven cities of gold which had something to do with the City of Z. Col. Fawcett knew that there were fierce tribes between where they were and where the City of Z was supposed to be. Kathy
Kevin Lowndes so he was searching for a white tribe and mentioned 7 cities of gold. Do you have any other info on the topic, would appreciate IT?
And I know some kalapalo natives. Great people doing papers on brazilian universities to keep their heritage alive. Also, the lost city of z was described by Jesuits, portuguese people, I suppose. :)
Kevin Lowndes no he wasn’t
wow, jack fawcett is a good looking man, but sad to say he was long gone with his father. After watching the lost city of Z I CAN'T even get a good night sleep, while wondering about the stories end。
maybe he found eldorado and he lived a happy life
Surely we'd have found el dorado by now
Sean Kilburn
I agree, it’s not like 65% of Earth has yet to be discovered....
@@huey1153 you are speaking about the oceans . El Dorado was never described as a coastal location and it is high likely it would have been found even if submerged as it would only be in shallow waters. My point was that close to all land mass is explored and mapped so please stop being passive aggressive.
Sean Kilburn
You only see what’s in front of you and what you’ve been taught to see, but I’ve been here all along
@@huey1153 stop being cryptic and please dont reply again.
Couldn't you just walk through the jungle, yelling Marco?
😂 I suppose, if you don’t mind arrows whizzing by your head.
When God had crated South America an Angel observed to the Lord that it was too wonderful a land for man and God said yes and now I will create South Americans

I think he and other 100 explorers were attacked by the people of the “lost City of Z”.
Thank you for a very concise and informative video on this. You do excellent work!
They were likely killed by a tribe. There are so many of them in the Amazon and many are not welcoming to outsiders. The Amazon is a mysterious place even to this day. I'm actually surprised Percy survived multiple expeditions.
It's a lie. White people lies
Very informative. Thanks a lot. Much appreciated!
You’re very welcome! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the information and appreciate your comments.
In addition to the 60'+ Anaconda Percy killed, the local tribes reported that an even larger serpent of a different species inhabited the rivers and jungles the area. Brian Fawcett wrote a book, "Lost Trails, Lost Cities", about his fathers adventures based on the letters Percy sent from the jungle. Having been in the jungle once I can honestly say that once is way more than enough. A though a giant snake is scary it's the little things likes poisonous centipedes longer than that monitor your reading this on...UGH!
Maybe he found Z but he didn’t want others to find it because of exploitation.
🤨
Maybe! Because he knew coming back with information, he'll be haunted and chased by the world forever to share the information so coming back was not an option for him.
Great little video, I'll be glad to further check out the channel! Perfect portioning of information to keep me just interested enough that I could never consider clicking away.
Maybe they werent killed. However they probably found the Lost City Of Z but the tribe never allowed them to return home in case they told the world about their discoveries and everyone just became greedy and went to exploit the lost city. So they were probably forced to live with the tribe forever.
Or killed
In a perfect world
Or they got instantly murdered. As did thousands of Indians during rubber boom. He told there's hostile tribes in the direction. Doubt they held a parade for him.
At the end of the movie, the elderly guy is given a compass or watch thing which was Percy's and Percy said that if he ever found the City of Z, that he would send him the compass as a sign. Did this happen in real life?
Thanks for the question. In real life, Percy did not send back a compass as a sign. A compass of his was found in Brazil after his disappearance, but it was determined that the compass was left behind prior to Percy’s final journey into the jungle and held no meaning.
That Was History Thanks for the reply.

Or are you hiding because it's something going on currently, and needs it's value . Maybe in second thought it could be only a director thing to leave viewers in doubt .
Just found this video after reading the book, excellent summation of the viable outcomes...thanks so much.👍

I honestly did not know of Mr.Fawsett, before Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Honestly I like it when that happens I always love learning about story I have never heard of before. Also who knows he may have found Paititi, in Peru lol. Thanks again TR.
@Persia. ebony Yes, I didnt catch that thanks :).
i've been watching this movie, a great story about history
This is one of the more accurate short clips on this man.
Good job
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video.
There's something fishy about Fawcett's expedition. Apparently, he had given wrong coordinates and had asked not to send anyone in search of him even before he left. That shows that he may have had an idea of not returning.
Maybe he must have found the definite road to Zed but has decided to stay there. Isn't it possible to hoodwink the whole world and make them believe that you disappeared while actually live in the jungle? It's just my guess
What about his family?
And why should he disguise uis intention...
@@9ipaye795 I read the book 5 years ago and he didn't seem to be much of a family man. He had jungle fever and kept wanting to come back to the amazon even when he was with his family. So I guess he chose the jungle.
Maybe when he found the lost city, he decided to live there until his last day with his son Jack.
Roel Fernandez It's sad both ways. Because if he found it he never went to his wife and other child. That's kind of selfish.Maybe he did not love his wife that much. Or they died/killee which is also sad
@@hb5096 or maybe they weren’t allowed to go back?🤔
Nice high quality production. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers.
Thank you! We’d love more subscribers, but we also know we need to put out regular content too.
I think even though he had esteem for the natives he was too obsessed with finding treasures etc that he disrespected the kalapalo tribe that he was supposedly with and they killed him and his son. The natives wanted to protect themselves and their land from greedy white colonialists and seeing how Fawcett behaved and what he wanted saw him as a risk...makes sense to me...
He went there without any gifts for the natives and thats what got him killed.
One way or another I’m pretty sure they were murdered
Probably his son killed him. He didn’t like the fact that his father keep leaving feeling sad and come back to beat him😂
I think you give them too much credit. They live in the jungle and hunt with spears in the 21st-century. I don’t think they are motivated by concerns that “white colonialists” will come and exploit they’re shitty jungle ruins.
nice job Cliff
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video.

@HearthCricket That story of 101 people is false. One one has died

Joseph Dudley So are you!
I have a friend who Percy Fawcett is his great great uncle
Well, look at that, I'm currently stuck at Mato Grosso, which is a state, btw.
i like the idea, thatJack still stays in the jungle---like in emerald forrest- and lives with the indigen people . maybe That could be a good story for di Caprio !
In Grann's book other friendly tribes tried to previously make contact there. They were found dead with their gifts in hand. So he was most likely murdered. Especially after the rubber boom, when thousands of Indians were tortured and murdered. It's insane he went with two teenagers w zero experience. He was also warned about hostile tribes up the river. Though his family motto "difficulties be damned".
Hmm. It's almost like he planned something that he maybe found the Z lost city that he won't be able to come back so he stayed there. So that's why he didn't want rescuers to come maybe it would be impossible for them to get there.
They might have been captured by the tribe from the city of Z .. if not killed, the tribe might have forbid them to leave so the city remained hidden from outsiders...
Greed got the best of him. he was most likely killed by an indigenous tribe. My people were abused and mistreated by Europeans for centuries and it’s not hard to imagine resentful tribesmen killing him
Because of the past bad treatment of the Indians by rubber Barons, i believe that all three were killed at the same time, by Indians. The fact that NO message was received by any of the three, suggest that they all died together. read the book, and know the dangers of the jungle!
Very possible! Loss of life due to the natives is one of the more plausible theories in our opinion. Thanks for sharing.
In 2017, there was a book, titled, The Lost City of the Monkey God, by Douglas Preston, a true story. They actually found the so-called, lost city in Honduras.
He found City Z. They were waiting for him, in some way he completed this magic people of Z's city. And his son
They had descendants there, the stayed here. Percy Fawcett was meant for find City Z
He was recently seen in Santa Monica near the beach.
There's a book and movie about it. I first read bout it in The People's Almanac &3.
He could of been killed by another tribe that was heading elsewere for a tribal war. Many explorers get suprised like that. Im fine with not knowing. I just love that his history and works as an explorer are well known and enjoyed by millions
Completely agree! We are very thankful to be able to appreciate his contributions.
ONLY 1 PERSON NOT 100 DIED TRYING TO FIND HIM.
I think in the end he did found it and the people there (probably a sister people if not survivors from Atlantis) knew what the world had became, dont forget we just came out of ww1. The natives would not let Facet go back so he could not tell. He lived the remainder of his days in the city of z.
When referring to "oral history" what exactly was the method of passing down this oral history? Depending on the method the story could either be unchanged since the first account or could be no better than idle gossip.
That is an excellent point! We hope, for Fawcett’s sake, that they took great care with their oral history. I guess that’s why it’s still a mystery though. Not too many people are willing to accept an oral history as 100% accurate.
@@brockalbert5111 What I mean is that some "oral traditions" are just stories told by everyone within a group and over time the story will be warped by different people telling the story their own way with details being omitted and added until the story barely holds any resemblance to the first account. Other times when referring to "oral traditions" they are incredibly reliable with an actual system behind it such the tradition of a single person being the "keeper" of a specific story. When this particular story needs to be passed down to future generations the "keeper" teaches it to their grandchild, skipping a generation to limit the chance of corruption. The grandchild is made to learn the story word for word from their grandparent and they must recite the story exactly as their grandparent worded it. Say there are 60 generations within 2000 years, with the latter method you only need 30 people to learn the story. This means that a 2000-year-old historical account could potentially remain intact and unchanged making it more reliable than the written word. The latter method is incredibly reliable while the former most definitely isn't so I was just asking if we know what is meant by "oral tradition" in regards to the particular tribe mentioned in the video.
They were probably eaten alive, which is so sad
The lost city of Z is a great book. Percy Fawcett was a great explorer and respectful of the tribes he met. His curiosity though in the end cost him his life is my conclusion. He and his sons end would not have been as glamorous as pictured here unfortunately, i find that part not worth thinking about and rather enjoy a man who questioned the things he was taught and told to believe.
Please investigate Sean Flynn's disappearance in Vietnam.
We are the most curious creatures on this planet, who are small, defence less to not even street dogs, but has guts to face much bigger things.
I would like to think Mr.Fawcett and his son lived long, fruitful and happy lives, doing what the loved! It's inspiring!
It is inspiring! High risk brings high reward. We’d like to think Mr. Fawcett ultimately found exactly what he was looking for.
That Was History fortune does favour the brave and I believe that he found Z. But knowing what he knew about western civilisation, stopped him returning to reveal it's location.
Keep thinking that cause it didn't happen... pretty sure they were killed
I believe him
He was barbecue for sure!
Fate of this brave soldier would be in the hands of mother nature...
I think he found that city and become immortal
Col. Fawcett found Jimmy Hoffa.
I just saw the movie, and at least the director seem to give and ideia of a psichedelic city of gold. Where fawcett and his sun was forced to enter a spiritual state and live there, or fawcett and his sun choose to stay there. So the movie seems to give this ideia :) Or my interpretation of the movie, not of the real mistery
Yeah, the movie is giving this idea of eternal, destiny, visceral experience thing
I think the natives killed Fawcett, Jack and Raleigh. One theory goes that one of the younger guys insulted a tribe or one of its members and that brought about their deaths. I think that's as good an explanation as any.
Definitely one of the more plausible theories! Thanks for watching.
Wiki : " While a fictitious tale estimated that 100 would-be-rescuers died on several expeditions attempting to discover Fawcett's fate,[35] the actual toll was only one-a sole man who ventured after him alone. "
His the real Indiana Jones 😢
Most likely the Indians got them
I think he has found it and because he did he couldn’t go back or he crossed with one of the thousands of tribes that exists in the Amazon and they killed him, or an animal killed them.
With all the satellites and drones we have nowadays we can't find it?

He was on the menu, that's what happened to him. Every story in life doesn't have a happy ending kiddos 😉
Misha?? Castiel??
Reminds me of the movie Avatar.
I think he found it and loved it so much that him and his son stayed there, they ended up getting married and having kids at the lost city of z, if he came back to the city those old gentlemen probably wouldn't believe him if he had poof anyways, but he did send that watch to that man and said if I send this to you then you know that I found the lost city z and am happy that I don't need an expensive watches and materials yrs golf to keep me happy, not all lost tribes are nice but he could have ran into the good one like Atlantis, idk very interesting theory, what do yall think? Cause like if the tribe wanted to kill them they would have with no questions so the tribes are smarter and more mature and curious than we think I suppose and hope 😅
He died….he would of wrote his family saying his son and him are staying.
Maybe he found Kurupira...
You need a military to go and subdue their land before asking once at that point in the contact
To be fair everytime they discover temples or lost city's disaster always comes with and they are not respectful with the Corpse of the dead or valuables that are discovered they always get action to the rich
