  • There was once a steam train called the Pilling Pig, because of the noise it made when it blew its whistle - a high pitched squealing noise, reminiscent of a Gloucestershire Old Spot having caught sight of the bacon slicer in the farmhouse kitchen. Originally it ran from Knott End, through Pilling and onto Garstang. The tracks are long gone now, of course, but me and Jeanie McIntosh thought we'd follow what remains of the route from Knott End to Preesall - nowadays a public footpath. It's impossible to get lost along the old Pilling Pig route, once you've found it, which would be a first for us. Well, it's probably impossible to get lost along it, anyhow....

Was almost tempted to do that walk today with David, but there’s a pint at the pub with my name on 🍺

You've got the Black Bull at the end of the Pilling Pig Knott End to Preesall route - a grand pint in an ancient pub. What could be better? 😃

I think Ivor was a tenor, whereas the Pilling Pig was a soprano... 😃
