"he risked his life two times time that day" because he flew over 2 german AA (Anti Air) nests, now imply.
No bullets fly, is based on a true incident in WW2, an artist has painted a painting on this and I believe the pilots actually met a long time after the war when both were old men. Another good song from the same album is Night Witches, which is about an all female Soviet airforce squadron, that flew night missions over the German lines on the eastern front.
that's a fancy to deny what happend.
If you swap these guys, then the attitude to what happened will be different.
