- A Toyota master diagnostic technician explains How toyota new technology works and how it actually works behind the scenes including RCTA, RCD, ISC and Panoramic view camera.
In this vehicle I will explain how the newest toyota safety equipment works and how it works behind the scenes or how it actually works.
I will cover ISC which stands for Intelligent Sonar Clearance or parking sensors in short and how the braking system was integrated to improve safety.
Also I will go over RCTA which stands for Rear Cross Traffic Alert and how it uses the blind spot monitoring system sensors to work.
I'll go over RCD and how it uses the rear view camera to work. I also cover a very common issue which displays RCD Unavailable when newer toyotas are put in reverse and how to fix it.

You have a gift like a good teacher. Really SIMPLE BUT COMPLICATED. Now I know everything. I have 2018 corolla and you have made me a DIY mechanic. Thanks. Keep up the good work. Tahir from Pakistan.
Thank you! You helped me fix the RCD!
Thank you for all your videos! They've all been very helpful with my getting to know my first toyota hybrid (2021 rav4). Happy holidays and God bless!
Merry Christmas!
thank you, thank you and thank you :) .. I learn a ton of things from each and every one of your videos. Keep up the good work. Much appreciated
Thank you for your videos. They are really educational
Thanks for this video! I don't have any of this tech, but I might someday!
Thanks! Very interesting! I wish you and your family a very nice holiday!
Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge very informative videos.
What a great explanation! I wish I had this kind of high quality instruction in my school and college. I would have paid attention to the class well!
I know it's kind of randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
@Douglas Dorian Flixportal xD
@Jad Casen thanks, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) Appreciate it!
@Douglas Dorian Happy to help =)
Thank you. Very helpful have a awesome day!🙂
Really helpful, waiting for the coolant change for the a25a-fks engine 😁👍
Thank you so much this video was so helpful 😊
Like always excellent information video Sir. Happy Holidays!!
Awesome as always. Thank you.
Aye you’re the man for the RCD fix
Very Nice video, I noticed another "feature" in RAV4 Hybrid 2020, when you drive in the highway over 120 to 140km and the more speed you go the sound increases more after, the sound is like small drops of rain hit the wind shield, I think this sound is a warning for the wind speed, but in the cockpit no signs exist about the wind warning!
GREAT video thanks!
Very informative, especially the last one. Thanks! One question though, the BSM on my Toyota Sienna platinum won’t beep. It just indicates but won’t beep. Am I missing anything?
Super cool presentation !
Thank you so much major help!!!
Great job and video like always
Thank you thank you thank you! I feel seriously sorry for all the folks who haven’t ever seen your videos and acquired all that interesting background info about Toyota’s Safety Sense components - and their limitations!
From a person who builds the cars you are talking about its sure is intresting on how it all works... from engineering/repair/maint. point of view
do you know how they buy/license German original technology ?
Gotta love Toyota!
thank you!! you explain so nice that I realize my doubts about the RCTA, now I understand better. I have a question about: this letter needs to be on ? thank you again.
Your an awesome dude!
That is awesome.
Awesome!
Thanks so much for sharing! Great video! Does TSS-2.0 come with the automatic braking for RCTA and the ICS system, or is that only TSS-2.5? Thanks so much!
Hi! RCTA and ICS are not part of Toyota safety sense as they are optional in most models. So the version of TSS will not have an impact on them. It will vary model by model if they have braking or not.
Thanks for the video
Speaking about creativity and making the most out of existing features, I have this thought:
Is it possible to use the 2 side cameras and display just the blind spot portion view in the computer ? That can complement very well the current blind spot monitoring system.
The Honda CR-V has a similar camera for the right side
Hi! There’s no oem integration for side cameras like the honda in Toyota vehicles
Hello CCN, love your content! My question: if I install anytime front camera in our 2020 Tacoma would it affect any safety devices? Thank you
Hi! Thank you for watching my channel! If you’re referring to a go pro or a dash cam then no it wouldn’t affect any of the safety devices.
Thanks
Love your informative videos. I have a 2020 RAV4 XLE Hybrid with RCTA and Smart Stop Technology Backup Camera (SSTBC). I don’t have ISC (no sensors). Is the SSTBC the same as RCD? Could I add ICS system to the car? Could RCD be added if it’s not SSTBC? Thanks.
Thank you for watching my videos. Sstbc is the same as rcd. Also isc can be added aftermarket but it won’t have the brake function
Thank you for this video. Lesson learnt: buy a less sophisticated Toyota if total cost of ownership is a concern.
Also if you replace your battery in your Toyota and it has all these sensors they may need to be reset. Fortunately I found out it’s simple to reset the ICS.
@@naveenthemachine maybe the channel will do a video on how to reset them.
what about Pre-Collision System? is there a way to make sure it's working? many people complained that it wasn't working!
Hi does removing Toyota stock Reverse camera disable the RCTA? I am planning to change the stock camera to a aftermarket one. Will the RCTA arrows and auto brake be affected?
Thanks sir
Thank you for your video’s. They are very helpful. I want to ask regarding gas hybrid like the new Sienna. What do you do if gas- hybrid cars won’t start. Can I jump start it or trickle charge it? Also, can I use my mini compressor pump to fill air that uses clamps attached to 12v battery? Thank you
You can jump start hybrids because they use a 12v battery to start up the hybrid system. A small compressor to air the tires should be ok.
@@TheCarCareNut so if my 12v battery fails then I need a power battery pack to start it. Nowadays they are too small to start up a 5.7L gas engine. Or example if my 12v fail and I don’t have a trickle charger then I just have yo contact a toyota suto service or CAA. Thanks
You can jump start hybrids with the smallest jumper pack as they don’t need much to start because there’s no starter.
@@TheCarCareNut thank you
I have a question are the 2018 and up csmries are coolant guslers top of the reservoir couple months ago have put bout 1000 miles plus on it went down a lil radiator is full so Ik is not a head gasket
Coolant will expand and contract. Check it when the car is cold fill it up to half way in the reservoir and then check it again when it’s fully warmed it will be at full.
Great job explaining these various functions. I wonder if insurance companies giving discounts to these vehicles? With all these safety functions as standard or optional equipment, why bother considering other new cars? It can prevent a very, very, bad day.
no
Thank you for watching my video! I agree with you but so far insurance companies hasn’t done much of discounts that I know of.
toyotas for life!
I get software up dates on my 2019 Avalon a few time a month to download. Does it update the RCTA,RCD, ISC, etc.to the latest rev. that new Toyota's have?
These systems really haven’t had any software updates as they run pretty well.
likely not... because system faults are dealer's profit center to extract money. They are not in business to distribute freebees.
2020 Camry XSE, RCD unavailable message shows on the screen but dynamic lines still work and turning left to right lock to lock does not get rid of the message. What else can be wrong?
That is another issue that would need codes pulled and diagnosis
I have a brand new 2021 Camry Hybrid and I would like to know why does the RCTA light stay on in the dashboard when not in reverse? This is annoying. The light on the dash should only be on when the car is in reverse. I took the car in to be serviced and they said this was the normal operation. If I don't want the light on all the time I have to just disable the system and then it is always turned off. Any chance Toyota will release an update to fix that?
These videos have really help me to understand what's going on behind the scenes, thank you. My wife and I currently have a 2017 Ford Fusion that can park itself and it seems to do a very good job of it. I'm not sure that it has anywhere near the sophisticated sensors that you described here. I was wondering why Toyota doesn't have automatic parking, given all those great sensors?
They do on certain models but more common on the Lexus side.

Hi AMD, do you know Brian in Chicago? He used to be a Ford Master Tech for 10 years and now runs his own business. Chicago is so lucky to have a great Toyota specialist and a great Ford specialist! God bless!
Hey brother! I don’t really know Brian. Do you have Info for his shop?
@@TheCarCareNut Sure brother. Brian also has a dedicated CZcams channel for Fords. Unfortunately the dealership he was working for was not supportive of his channel. He then received multiple offers from other
dealerships and even the UTI school. He later decided to start his own Ford repair shop and it has taken off like crazy for him. Now there are 2 wizards in Chicago area and it only makes Chicago a lucky spot for Toyota and Ford nuts!

@@TheCarCareNut You're welcome brother. Thanks!
Good morning ☀️ AMD, My 2014 Prius doesn’t look like the fan has a filter do you recommend me to purchase a filter?
Hi Michelle! I would invest in a filter for ease of cleaning. If you have heavy back seat use I would install one and keep an eye on it
Would spraying the filter with air be as effective as taking it out to clean it?
I wouldn’t spray it with air while it’s installed because then you’ll push the debris into the fan. I would take it out and clean it
Lol amd that’s so true about the debris 😁😆I’m just trying to save money
I would do it yourself and save money. It’s not hard and with practice it’ll get easier and no need to replace the filter just clean it and reuse it
👍👍👍👍👍
Can you believe my 2021 Sienna XSE does not have a back up alert/alert?? This is despite me having blind spot detection with an audible sounds when in reverse.
I HATE the auto start/stop on my 2021 Rav4... the default should be OFF, not ON which would eliminate me having to turn it off each time I drive the car. You would think Toyota would have a software modification to default it to OFF. Is there a fix or override for this?
Hi jerry. I totally understand your frustration as I feel the same way. However that auto start stop is part of the emission system of car and not something Toyota likes to do that’s why it defaults to on every time you restart the car.
Hybrid technology doesn't need this annoying system.🙂
If a car is coming close behind you while you are backing up will RCTA stop the car or does the car need PA w/AB to stop the car?
Will RCD stop the car as well? I have a 2021 RAV4 Prime, but not with the premium package so I don't have PA w/AB
Hi! It won’t stop if it doesn’t have PA W/AB
@@TheCarCareNut I bought a 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE with the Weather Package only. I would have had to pay almost $5,000 more to get PA w/AB. I didn't want Navigation, JBL Radio, HUD, 6.6kWh Charger, Panoramic Sunroof, 360 Degree Camera, Power Passenger Seat, Ventilated Seats, Digital Rear View Mirror, 1,500 Watt Power Outlet, Adaptive Front-Lighting System, or Foot-Activated Power Liftgate. Although maybe worth the extra money, I don't miss any of those features.
I hope in the future I will able to get PA W/AB as a stand alone option when I buy my next RAV4 Prime with a solid-state battery.
_RCD Unavailable_
Owner: Hmm I should take the car to the dealer to see what's broken.
Dealer: Yeah your RCD need it recalibration, that would be $120 (or $200)
Owner: Toyota seems to slip it's reliability lately.
The CCN: RCD not working? Just turn your steering full left then right, done.
Owner: FUCK!
😂 basically...
@@TheCarCareNut Is this in the owner's manual?
Likely not. I haven’t really looked into the owners manual for this one but it is somewhere buried in the repair manual.
Still not working with me !!
Very happy 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
We bought a new 2022 Camry XSE that was on the truck headed to the dealer. It arrived on a Thursday afternoon and Friday evening we picked up the car. Drove it 30 miles to our home. On Saturday morning we went to drive the car and the BSM and RCD errors showed and started it and stopped it again but still there. Contacted our salesman and he said to bring the car in on Monday. Sunday morning we were backing out in the church parking lot and someone backed into us on the rear passenger side causing a small dent, the bumper was fine. Took the car in on Monday and they performed a recalibration on the car but the error remained and they are trying to tell us the accident destroyed the sensor and that part is $1000. There is just a light dent and they bumper was never touched, I am now feeling like they are dishonest and maybe afraid that the BSM might have warned for that SUV that backed into our side. Please tell me if there is a $1000 sensor on the rear side of the car?
That didnt work on my RCD OFF issue. Could it be something else?
Doesn't work for me either did you figure it out?
@@dreams6068 no I just have left it. It doesn't bother much
I just figured it out . The channel RAV4Guides has the correct procedure . It worked in my 21 Camry! It's a process you do through the display .
@@dreams6068 what do you do? If you don't mind typing it out?
It's to much to type trust me go to video
What! A Toyota loses steering wheel calibration?
I have yet to see that in other cars/brands.
“Really dangerous” when your 360 degrees camera doesn’t work right?
Doesn’t people look around and through their windows/mirrors anymore?
I hear you. But it does happen. I own other manufacturers cars and every time I don’t drive one of them for more than 2 weeks gotta do the same otherwise the amber warmth and glow of the traction control light gets distracting.
All that technology, yet they still use crappy quality camera especially for back up camera....cmon Toyota its 2021
