Great Lakes Treasure Hunting: Episode 13 - Headlands Beach Glass Hunt

Welcome back to the longest and most pristine coastline in Ohio! Headlands Beach State park is located in Mentor and features several convenient parking lots with scenic views of Lake Erie. In today's adventure we will try to collect as much beach glass as we can. Unfortunately the section leading up to the famous Lighthouse was closed to protect the fragile ecosystem. Closing the East end of the beach is the biggest waste of public space. I am not sure who determined it was more important for the birds to enjoy the beach more so than humans.
Swimming so close to the light house and getting amazing photos of the light house is the reason I would drive 4 hours one way for a day trip to Headlands. Ohio has something unique that could attract tourist who are ready and willing to spend money in Mentor....but we have to save the birds. 🥳

I totally agree with you! This was the last time I was at Headlands and I didn’t know that side of the beach was closed until I saw the signs posted. I used to love walking towards the lighthouse because it was less crowded and you could find some really nice pieces of beach glass. Maybe in the future it will change but I doubt it.
