I'm a huge Verratti fan. He was literally born the town over from where my Dad grew up - a small village called Lettomanopello. My dad met him at the local bar when he was 18 years old playing for Zemen's Pescara Calcio.
The fact that he'll be 33 or older the next time Italy plays in the WC actually breaks my heart.

      Nice story.. thanks for sharing..
Regarding Veratti.. if he is not as overrated as I think, he should be still playing high level soccer when he is 33.
Look at players like Pirlo, Gatuso and such.
I know they did not play the exact same position as Veratti but they played high level soccer deep into their careers.

@@keystone6162 no because the players can't handle that many games. Verratti in particular has been injured a ton throughout his career.
People think because players like Ronaldo have logged so many games that it's possible for most players but Ronaldo is an outlier. Most players don't have the legs for a full club season let alone an additional summer tournament.

Until few months back, Italy were on a undefeated streak of 37 games. They were one of the favorites to go very far in the world cup. They have players like Donnarumma, Jorginho, Varratti, Immobile, and others. But they lost to North Macedonia. Italy's Euro Cup victory was very deceiving. Don't get me wrong, they're one of my favorite international sides and I love Italian football having grown up watching the 90s and 2000s golden era of Serie A. But their Euro Cup win was deemed as some magnificent attacking play performance and win. Which is far from reality. They managed 3 goals against Turkey and Switzerland and everyone lost their minds. 3 goals is the most Italy ever scored at a Euro Cup game. In ALL the editions. And that was their first time doing so. Pathetic. Sweden and many other teams of even lower level literally did the same and nobody hailed them as offensive juggernauts.
What happened after those 2 opening matches against Turkey and Switzerland? Italy struggled and grinded their way towards eventual victory. After their 2nd group match it was all about defense and stifling the opponents all the way down to the final. They managed 1 goal against Wales in a 1-0 victory. Then a 2-1 victory against Austria where they needed extra time. A 2-1 victory against Belgium where the game was pretty even. Then a 1-1 draw vs Spain in the semis where they were outplayed and needed penalties. And another 1-1 draw with England in the final where they also needed penalties. 3 out of their 4 knockout stage games they needed extra time or penalties and managed only 1 goal during regulation time. In conclusion; they rode lots of luck and they weren't this great offensive side they were touted as.

2/3 of his goals from 1/6 of his games in which he scored more than once against the opponent either home and away, home or away, and does scoring against Norwich really count, the team at the bottom of the premier league with most goals conceded and most game loss, he scores a hat trick against and not against norwich,
