My favorite part of Neopets was finding the hidden areas in the world you could only go to by typing in the address bar. You mentioned the omelette but there’s a giant jello mound you can take a piece from too. Sorta the only one I remember

This was my childhood man... Exploring the world, buying and selling stuff, playing games, taking care of my Neopets... I even had a Neopets plush in real life and I'm heartbroken because I think my parents threw it in the trash...
I remember playing Neopets all day. My favorite game on Neopets by far was definitely Key Quest. Neopets has the potential to become even more popular than it already is. JumpStart has no idea what they're doing.

When I was younger, I wanted to play Neopets ALL the time. I was always polishing up my shop... my sad, empty shop. It looked incredible, but I never had anything worth selling. This video makes me contemplate getting a Flash alternative and trying it out again. Not to mention how much I learned from this video about Neopets' history! Thank you so much!

Neopets is still around they been updating for mobile and todays browsers theyre working on bringing back lots of old games like merca chase

bro this was a FANTASTIC video! Insta-subscribe. I mourn the glory days of neopets, I mention it everytime someone asks me how I got into Graphic Design because my start was diving into the code and making graphics for pet pages and user lookups. Neopets taught me how to design and code, and I'll never forget my humble beginnings. This video triggered a memory for me when you mentioned the neopets merch at Limited Too. I reside in Canada, so we never had Limited Too, but my alternative was to immediately JUMP at the moment Neopets announced a pop-up shop in Hong Kong. My parents travel there every other year, so I begged my parents to plan a trip there and we did. There was a whole ass lineup but it was so worth it to 15-year-old me. I bought a Faellie plushie, still have it in fact! It remains a treasured item to remind me of my time with Neopets. I met friends there, some who I still speak to today, and I'll never forget those fond memories. My favourite game was Pteri Attack hahaha

I was obsessed with Neopets back then. Started playing again last year (thankfully with my original account still intact). I miss Key Quest, Habitarium, World Challenges, etc.

Also, Neopets is where I experienced my first scam when I was 6 years old, and that was a big life lesson. 😂 Someone said they'd trade me a lower amount of NP for a baby paint brush, and they just took my money and ran.
Oh man Neopets has been such a huge part of my life for almost 20 years. I still get on from time to time. I got Neopets the Darkest Faerie game for Christmas in 2005 and spent that whole day playing it and loved it.

I remember playing back in 2002. There was nothing like it before. It was amazing. My favorite neopets were Chia and Aisha.

It sort of had the same kind of appeal that an MMO has, but was marketed to much younger audiences. It's a place you go back to every day to slowly build up an identity based on which parts of the content you engage with.
Neo pets also had a really active forum.. That's where I spent most of my time on the site as a kid.
I first played neopets when I was 11. Back in 1999. My mom just didn't want to spend the money on actual games till she thought I was told enough to take care of them. It wasn't until a year later I got a Dreamcast but oh boy Chao Garden in SA2 was the shit. Than after I got GB advance with pokemon. Later it was the original Xbox. Than was on and off with Neopets as a teen.
One thing Neopets taught me is about the economy. How supply and demand works lol. I do miss Meerca chase.
I used to be big into making pet pages for my neopets and rping with them. It's also crazy how it has changed over the years.

one of the best current neopets videos of this year that I have seen. I am deeply disappointed Jumpstart the neopets support website is down for a long time and I cannot recover my old account. I have been trying to contact support for more than a month... I hope we can continue playing neopets on the old page or not make more mobile games and focus on tracing what they had in 2006 or 2008 a simple web loaded with thousands of sites to go to. In short, my favorite game was the search for keys, being 100% in real time with other players, it was a lot like Mario Party... Thanks for the video!

as someone that was a lover of neopets since i was a small kid i found myself really loving this video!! it was such a good watch, i'm so glad it showed up on my algorithm. i was incredibly addicted to neopets and i would play it all the time, beg my parents to buy the maganizes for me in grocery stores too... one of my most treasured items is a meowclops petpet plushie... may have never been able to get one in game, but at least i have one irl.

I have started playing Neopets properly again following my cancer diagnosis. I am stuck and bored in bed so it is something fun to do. I was more of a serious player as a kid and teenager and now I am getting back into it. I do Food Club, all the dailies every day except games, battledome, restocking, sniping, chatting on Discord with other players, customising my pets etc. I am surprised at how I can still play the same game as an adult as I did as a child. That is what is so good about Neopets. :) I just hope one day the lag, the botting issue and other issues surrounding the site can be fixed. That would be amazing!

Ahh Neopets was the best back in the day, I was hoping you’d cover the money tree 😂 I spent hours there just refreshing and refreshing, got some crazy stuff. Loved fishing as well and just going to all the pet pet shops and seeing what was in stock that day.
The pet pet battles up in the spaceship was another level too - not sure when that was bought in tho.

The plots and the Battledome were so much fun in the old days, many great games too. Anyone remember NeoQuest in 2000? Back in the day it was so popular it would take the whole site down so you had to play it off-peak hours when it released but they removed the restriction later. NeoQuest 2 was a much improved game that more people knew about, it really got me into JRPGs. These were made by a developer called Mr Insane, and I enjoyed all of his other games too.
His platformer games like the Hannah games (and Hannah's plot) and Escape from Meridell Castle were so much fun! Invasion of Meridell was amazing too, it was a strategy RPG like Fire Emblem but with Neopets lore/characters, I helped my friends get a high score for the avatar when avatars came out and it actually got me into Fire Emblem and Sacred Stones on the GBA. Not to mention Neopets actually taught me the very basics of investing in the stock market lol because it had a stock market mini-game, even the plushie-making game taught me the basics of managing and expanding a business.
Heck, it taught me how to sell stuff, I used to have a shop in a mall, users could make their own shops to sell items, but if you coordinated with other users you would have a specialty of the kind of items you sold, so you would form a "mall" with your friends and you put each other's links in your shop, acting like an actual mall because people were too inconvenienced to go back to the wizard to search for items, they'd rather just like a link to see other shops.
It's a shame what happened to the site though, it had a really great run and I still log in every year to see memories and keep my account from being deleted.

I was a NeoPets kid/teen, I love it! I had my own account and one I shared with my best friend in Denmark (I'm in the US) and we'd talk about "our NeoPets" and what we did with them that day 😂 I even begged my partner to drive me to McDonald's for the Happy Meal toys when I was like 16 or 17 lmao
Neopets and the darkest faire is one of my favorite games of all time, you NEED to play more, you’ll love it. Petpet adventures was pretty fun as well, but not as good as the darkest faire.
Oh I definitely will play through Darkest Faerie. A lot of comments have said I need to play it longer/make it past the first section and it becomes and awesome experience. I'm excited to give it a shot when I have some free time!!

I never played Neopets as a kid, but this did unlock a lot of memories of me playing Flight Rising in high school with my friends! I must've played that for a good few months before leaving it behind completely haha.
And damn, I remember playing a bunch of Jumpstart's educational games back in the day! This was way before they went for that NFT garbage lol. But Jumpstart 2nd Grade and Jumpstart 3rd Grade were my jam back in the day!
It really was a whole lifestyle. I recorded my shop item prices in a book and was all about getting things cheap and selling them higher. Depositing the profit into my bank whenever I could and feel good about my platinum rank at the bank. I knew all the games that gave coins or could earn it easily. The game where you watch ads, the Big time rush game, the hot dog game, the usuki game, imperial exam etc. It was seriously so massive. One would seriously go to different parts in Neopia to do stuff. Money tree, soup kitchen, pet battles, omg so many things. This was before Petpetpets existed. The old neopets experience was just damn amazing
I tried playing on my dad's web TV keyboard when I was at his house. I also managed to get at one point a Tonu Pocket Game that I also rebought as an adult but idk where it is now.
It was a better experience than the site.
I did once I was older walk to the library to play Fairy Bubble Pop. The beginning of my match 3-??? Addiction.
The whole thing was soooo unfair.
The soup kitchen couldn't even get you food unless you tried for hours.
The tree was rigged.
The shop system was so cool and making your own shop NPC. I figured the only way was to obtain items and possibly sell and slowly trade up.
I eventually quit trying.
I was able to buy McDonald's toys at yardsales and consignment stores for quarters and have tons.
Neopets was NOT a poor man's or woman's brand 😅

Good LORD this brought back memories. This was pretty much my thing back then, between Pokemon and Neopets. I actually learned how to code a webpage from it because I wanted a cool page for my pets.

I grew up in the 90’s I was born in 89’. I honestly don’t remember this at all. I’m really surprised I never came across this. I always liked to play video games and I enjoyed using the internet and so did all of my friends. I also have 2 younger sisters 3 and 7 years younger than me so I would think them or their friends would have loaded this up at the house and I would have seen it.
Crazy how something so popular can get totally missed.

Retired is probably not the right word, those special species were more of a limited run. You could obtain a certain amount annually on the day named after them or with neopoints for the labray, morphing potions, or kraek eggs, etc.
Not sure grundos should even count though, those are pretty much year round, you just get them from a different area of the site.
Also battledome was a pretty huge component before kids were old enough to understand food club or stocks, it let and still let's a player grind for codestones which can be sold, traded, and used.
If a newer player would like to experience the old plots, most comics and content are still buried on the site and everything else is preserved on fanzines. Luckily the community has been archiving stuff for more than a decade so there's not nearly as much lost media as you'd expect.

The fan dedication to archive Neopets history and old content is impressive. JellyNeo and the Wiki were super helpful but I also found myself on other fan sites, it was really cool seeing all this hard work paying off.

I was addicted, playing day and night, refreshing shop pages to try and snipe the best items, good ole times.
I grew up with neopets. I was obsessed with it for a time and I can't tell you how many toys i had. Watching its downfall is like watching an old friend spiralling and ruining their life.
Neopets is what got me into web design when I was 14 (several areas allowed you to make HTML customizations to pages) and nearly 20 years later that's now my fulltime job, so. 🥰🥰 I loved playing with the html, but aside from that there were a few games I lived on (Fyora's Quest, Ice Cream Machine, Destruct-o-match 2).
I had a neopet egg toy thing way back when i was a kid. All the kids on the playground had different ones and we all somehow had fun with it. Mine was the green alien guy

I still have most of my plushies that corresponded with tokens for the board game. I was never a neopet kid because I was already an adult when they started. I lost access to my accounts but can still look them up to show my kids. When NFTs became popular they really reminded me of the items and shops.
I must've last played this about 20 years ago, I just remember saving like hell trying to get the secret lab map 😂
I still have all of my irl neopets plushies in my closet 😅 Most were from Limited Too, but before that, they actually briefly sold them at Sams Club of all places. My sister got a Blue Kougra (which I ended up with) and I got a talking Baaba petpet there when I was about 5. It still works, you squeeze it's ear and it makes a cycle of various... anime sheep noises?
Also later Target had some XL plushes, probably around the time that Limited Too was closing/merging. They came with codes to redeem exclusive items specifically related to that pet's species and color (for example, a purple Aisha themed book) that nowadays, are super rare and worth millions upon millions of NP.

Dang, I remember the hayday of Neopets, I joined in 2001. I was too young to do the events but I loved getting omelet for my pets and playing the games. Meecra chase was too addicting, was one of the 3 games I played, the other one block game I cannot remember the name on (the one where you click on the blocks and disappeared). Then there was Faerie Blast (Faerie Bubble Blast? The Puzzle Bobble/Bust a Move-like game; yeah I liked that one too
Heck ya, Neopets plush unite! I had 2 blue Aishas, a yellow faellie, a blue ona, a blue kadoatie and the many McDonald's one. I wish I can buy these; hecek I wish I got more of the painted pet plush. They're too expensive now.
I also remember Darkest Faerie, fun but hard game.

I think neopets and pokemon have similar appeal. They both feature a range of weird animals, and children love weird animals. I think it's the same reason kids live dinosaurs too.

they've loosed the restrictions on recovering your account dramatically in the last month, you should try to recover it if you haven't recently
If you remember your username, you can probably get access back if you submit a ticket! I remembered the username for the 2nd account I made (quite a few years after my original account) and I explained that I no longer had access to the original email address it was attached to. They asked me a few basic questions, and once I answered them correctly they reset my password. I'm so happy I have a part of my childhood back 😭
I remember playing this in computer class! I also had the golden handheld portable game
True story: When they did the hidden tower giveaway where they randomly gave 1 of each item from the hidden tower to a lucky winner I randomly decided to check shops to see if anyone was foolish enough to sell them (Since the max price for shops was 99,999 and most items were worth several million). One day I got extremely lucky and found a Rod of Dark Nova for 99,999 in someone's shop. I freaked out and tried to buy it and forgot all my money was in my bank (I had just saved up my first million). I went to the bank and withdrew 100k as fast as I possibly could, went back and actually bought it. I could not believe it, this item was worth I think like 14 million at the time and I just got it practically for free. After having some fun with it in the battledome eventually I got bored and traded it for a bunch of other HT items (a decision I would regret) that probably didn't quite equal it's value. Eventually after doing a bunch more trades I ended up trading for an Aisha Myriad. Then the next day my account was frozen and I never got an explanation for why. The end.

I accidentally changed my password from my very first account and was locked out and then I was banned from my second account (whoopsies 😅). I created new accounts in the 2010's but forgot the names to but I finally figured them out when officially going back in 2021. I've been logging in daily for over a year now. It's just a fun little time killer at this point but I'm trying to dive more into it.
Edit: also screw NFTs. I hope they put some of that money into the actual site, it's pretty trash now with half the game and site not working because they never changed it to HTML5. And then the inflation has been awful recently so its been nice that they've been releasing super rare stuff in free events lol

I don’t think everyone understands how addicted we were when we say we were addicted to neopets.
I’d get home from school, immediately get on neopets. Do my homework while playing neopets. Play neopets until I went to sleep. Repeat everyday. I was obsessed with my neopets guild. I had 12-15 accounts. Made guilds on all of them. Spammed the boards all day trying to recruit members. My soul was crushed when a member would leave the guild. It was just insane, my life revolved around my neopets guilds.
If anyone wanted to use the computer, I’d throw a fit. I had too many neomails to reply to. I needed to be online 24/7.
Epilogue: I am proud to report I am 14 years sober from neopets addiction. Lol.
I think my guild i had ended on being miley cyrus themed before I stopped getting on the website haha. But yes same! Both me and my cousin would spend any waking minute being on the website. And I remember really trying to get people to join my guild. I had lied about my age just to make a guild haha

I know you didn't get far in the Darkest Faerie, but once you get closer to Merridell and other cities, you will find petpets along the way that you can feed. They will follow you until their hunger causes them to stop following you, and they have their different perks. Some will increase your attack power, your health, Meowclops will even let you see Invisible items in the game.
Im back on Neopets 😂 32 year old mother of an 18 month old. Yup. As if I needed more things to take care of. I play during her nap times 🎉 been doing the Trudies jackpot game to build up some NP

12:40 I found mine at a yard sale only a couple years ago (Along with a white lupe, shadow lupe, a small lupe figure and a talking kougra - same yard sale)
