It is amazing... you can "feel" the music when you are there. I hope no matter what happens to Macy's that the building and organ can be preserved! The building itself is an amazing architectural gem
It was 1963 when I stood there in the middle of that huge space- age 7 - with my mom and sister. I seem to remember I was holding a soft ice cream cone we got from the lower level 😁😂😂😀. Now I live in Honolulu/ graduate of Abington Senior High and Millersville. Mahalo for the memories 😊
and this organ also has a spoecial thing. Not only can those blinds be controlled by a foot pedal (as is in most othe organs), but also in the form of sliders underneath the keyboard, that can be operated by thumbs of the player.
When Macy*s filed for bankruptcy the whole organ needs to be packed up and shipped to the Vatican in Rome. They've needed a decent pipe organ for years that can really fill the=at great space. The current organ, in the Vatican, a Tamburini tin can, needs to be disassembled and moved to the Bathes of Caracalla to replace the ancient hydraulis water organ that spewed boiling water on the bathers ...

The organ is a historic landmark.
I remember we went to Philly in the summer of 1975 and my dad took us to see this. He said it was one of the great treasures of the country.

These movable blinds are for volume control for part of the organ. These are called swells, or swell boxes. you control this with a foot pedal
