And I think I had the opposite problem from most… I think I under applied and I work the product too much. I have a silver vehicle so it’s tough to see flashing as well. For washing, polishing, waxing (yes old school) or drying. Always the same pattern. Wondering if thats a very old school standard procedure. Cant wait to apply the 5 year. I also have a question regarding textured plastic trim restoration, since the fender flares could use a touch up over the minor top scuffs/dulling from off roading. I heard a heat gun or hot hair dryer can be used over the plastic trim, but I would like to know from you the professionals if they would recommend this. I don't want to melt the plastic. 😂

      Using the yellow Waffle Pad (or the soon-to-be-released Rotary Jeweling Pad) with Gold Standard Polish on a rotary polisher is amazing for going over/around decals. As far as a heat gun, don't use them! Better to use a product like Solution Finish on faded trim

      you will just be able to see on that first panel. We like to coat the hood first, almost as a "test" panel. Get the coating on the paint, see how it's flashing....how long is it taking, etc. That way your pad is primed, your method/understanding of the paint is good. it seems like every day can be a little different depending on the conditions so just learn to see what the coating is telling you on the paint, if that makes sense

  • @amberatkinson4230

  • @renuing

    How does using a last step product as you maintain the coating over the years affect the gloss and slickness. For example, if using ceramic gloss once a month over the ceramic coating will you notice the differences you mentioned in gloss and slickness between the 3, 5, and 8 yr coatings or will they all start to look the same because you are putting the same product (ceramic gloss) over them? Thanks for the super informative videos!

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  Před rokem

      it's a great question, and it's one that detailers naturally ask/think about. It's something Yvan might have a better answer for, but my basic explanation is this. You have the real deal protection as your foundation. You're building something, you gotta have a good foundation right? Which we have here with the coating. Boom, foundation is solid. After that, you have a peace of mind knowing that no matter what happens on the top floors, the foundation is solid. So Ceramic Gloss and Quick Beads are your sacrificial "topper" layers, they have certain properties themselves for sure. But they're drying aids, first of all, to make the drying process safer (which make sense to me regardless of what the properties are) And they add gloss/protection as well (also a bonus for the car, as far as I'm concerned). As far as look and feel? It's hard to say exactly, if I'm trying to give an exact comparison (so many variables over time with driving, maintenance, weather conditions and miles on the car) but my best advice is: don't overthink it:) -Nick

    Question on the different coatings, is there any of them (5 year pondering in particular) where the gloss might actually be reduced using Ceramic Gloss or QB on top of it to maintain (not because those products aren't great themselves but because the ceramic coating is that step above in gloss)?

I noticed high spots from the detail spray after I used it today as a topper, and this never happened before with this spray. I had to use Gold Standard to wipe away the high spots. How many pads are required to polish a whole car?

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  Před rokem

      If you're just using the one pad for polishing, one pad. If you're compounding with wool and then polishing with the rotary jeweling pad, 2. That's because the pad washer system is so awesome when you use it with our line up and standard operating procedures:) so basically, you just need one pad to polish the car

      It’s less important than many will make it out to be.
