I can respect that. But every great player must move on and up, different perspectives can help any athlete grow. Too much familiarity can be harmful. Seek other perspectives even if you stay mainly with your dad as coach. And use a different caddy than your coach.

As a dad of two adult girls and a grandfather of two granddaughters who are 12 and 13, you were tugging at my heartstrings at the very end before you quit. The younger me would have told my daughters winners never quit and quitters never win. The older me (now) would have treated the situation just like your dad did! He's a great daddy and you are an amazing young woman. I cannot wait to see you on the tour!

Fully disagree. He’s not daddy…he’s caddie. A great caddie encourages a dialogue. He just kept putting her down and treating her like his kid and not his player. If she’s serious, she needs to ditch dad

    • @jasondahm5339
      @jasondahm5339 Před měsícem +4

@@andrewjohnston7129 I completely agree with you. Caddie's don't tell their player what they did wrong immediately after they hit. They don't make disgruntled noises after their player hits a poor shot. They know when to keep their mouth shut. He very well could be a great dad, but he doesn't know the first thing about how to caddie.

Old man knowledge comin' at ya! 😂 I've been golfing in Michigan for literally decades & knew from the second I saw what you were wearing you were gonna get sick. Michigan rain soaks right into your skin & those leggings must have weighed like 10 pounds by the end of the round. And day two was even worse being sick with nothing covering your legs & a sweater too thin to actually protect from the wind. Remember, you can ALWAYS take layers off & a warm hat goes a loooong ways. (I know extra layers restricts a bit but the modern rain gear isn't bad. Sorry for the novel & all that being said, you're an absolute trooper & should be proud of yourself.
Last thing for future reference, Midwest greens generally tell the story at the hole, check there for the grain & uphill, into are always REALLY slow & the opposite are always lightning fast. Especially on tough tracks. Good luck on your journey young lady & props to pops for dragging the bag in those conditions. 💯

I just wanted to add my two cents, I have been playing my entire life( since 9 in 1956) and have recently found two things that added distance to my tee shots. I know the kick point on my driver has stabilized my consistency in contact. That's an easy request of any clubmaker. I'm at mid kickppint at 75. I also tried employing a more single plane set prior to my take back off the tee. I have employed a tilt so left shoulder is raised higher than right and I lift my grip end of club up toward my belt buckle just before takeaway(kind of part of a pre shot routine) so when I pass through the hitting area everything is cleared out. I noticed Scott Sheflflee doesn't hit a draw and has consistent distance straight off the tee.

I usually don't comment. I have been a touring professional after retiring from a short professional baseball career. I learned from my coach who played on tour for 14 years that you have to play with the same "spirit " and same mentality as you do when you post your best scores. Tournament golf inherently makes that difficult, but its possible if you learn what your breathing is during your best rounds. I don't want to advertise anything so I'll just say that Jordan Spieth advertises for the product. I love how relaxed your body is through impact and beyond. I know you had to learn that! Play the shot that is called for. Don't play safe, and want to make the 10-15 footers more! Want it as much as you want the 4 footer for par. Its hard to give you all the things I have learned. Surround yourself with great players.

You normally do an exceptionally great job of encouraging yourself after mishits but it doesn’t help when your caddie is over your shoulder saying “oh no” or “you rushed it” when you miss a 3 footer. 😔

You learn from every round. I don't know but I felt that dad was fine as caddie. He seemed reassuring and was making good calls. It was also great to see you grind it out the way you did Gabby. When you get sick and have little sleep, it's impossible to have a good mental game as well as a good physical game. I commened you on trying to tuff it out like you did. Stay positive and reassured that you'll do a lot better next time Gabby with a loving dad at your side. You can do it Gabby. Get back on the horse.

Saw the 'first pro tournament' title and had to watch - felt almost a privilege to do so. You are at the bottom of a big learning curve, but I thought you played and talked really well - your swing and ballstriking looked really solid day 1, shame about the last. Playing well but the putter was in the fridge is a familiar tale for every golfer. Don't suppose there's much demand for thermals and waterproofs in Florida, but they might be a solid investment now. Your dad did great, kept you calm and together you got most of the calls right. Keep working & learning

Beyond the rain gear/attire. There were several instances when directional advice was given when you were already standing over the ball. I think that you would definitely want to choose your exact target and shot shape behind the ball and then step up to it.

Gabby - I was born and raised in Michigan. The weather is always unpredictable, changes several times a day and will frustrate anyone who plays any sports outdoors.
I moved to Colorado in 1979 to escape the Michigan weather, especially during the winter. The golf season here is much longer as well.
Big fan of your golf game. You have what it takes to play on the LPGA tour, but don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t happen as quickly as you expect. As you well know, golf is filled with ups and downs, minor injuries that persistently keep you on edge and nerves that you have to tame to be successful. I know you will win a professional tournament one day if you are able to gut out the disappointments along the way. Go for it Gabby!

Dad has soo much nervious energy its incredible, in the first round he tried to take over her process, he made her analize herself even over putts, "more weight in the front foot"he never let her find her flow even though she struck the ball extremely well, his instrucions were not concise but confusing, " just a nice swing here, not a jittery one" there was no positive energy at all. I saw at least 2 putts, gabby had the line, dad miss read it and gabby missed.I bet dad is not a golfer himself, i would bet on it.
For the love of god, second round dad could not have maybe taken precaution and forseen the possibility there could be some rain and maybe taken her to buy waterproofs, poor girl was playing in a hoodie, soaking up the rain, this infuriated me , did he actually just say " ive never been so uncomfortable in my life" why? Nice shot .

Gabby, you're 16 years old and you're getting a lot of experience at a young age. I played Division 1 football and hold all of my college records for a position. You are going to learn what works, what doesn't work, how to mentally strive through a lot of tormoil rounds. I think this is most important... imaging missing a field goal on national TV... have to stay mentally strong and recover. The good thing is you have all the tools, swing looks good. The only thing you're lacking is experience.
My best piece of advice playing at any type of level like that is breathe/breath. You have to be able to play without letting the moments of pressure get ya. Put yourself in as many tournies as possible and get used to pressure shots until it becomes normal. Great vod. Also, your old man has Phil Mickelson calves!
