This is an amazing improvement on the me-80. The effects loop addition was all i really wanted on the 80. Now we have that, a phone amp to tweak more, better preamps, its great. I have the gt1000 and use that right now. But the me stuff having the knobs on the front is more my style. I like just reaching down and tweaking. And i dont really run to complex of a setup. Just some delay and boosts. Then a chorus andclean channel
I use 4CM with my Helix into a Marshall JVM and I love it. Nice thing is you can still use it as a modeler by changing to an XLR out. As for the Boss, I think it's remarkable what you can get out of it at that price point. Nice demo.
For the price of 2 or 3 effects boxes the ME-90 sure gives a lot more choices for your money. I could see using the ME90 along with a couple of my favourite stand alone effects into the ME's effects loop for playing most gigs. Can't use the 4 cable method as my amps don't have effects loops... but I could certainly have a blast running the effects into 2 separate amps. I've always enjoyed playing through 2 amps when possible. Thanks for a great overview of this new Boss multi-effects... very well done!
Hi, I am also using me-90 but I feel my me-90 patches are so thicker. The OD/DS tone I created by my own is so thicker.Everything is okay only the tones are little bit thicker in my ear. What should I do? My amp also does not support 4 cable options. Only input and the output.
You've convinced me to order one... ok... the wine might have helped. But I think this will be fun to run through my old Carvin X100B with its effects loop. Plus, it seems like a good value at $350 USD from your Sweetwater link.
They should let you sync, as a global preference, any of the modules with tempo-based effects to a global tempo. Have the module's LED blink with the tempo so you know the state. Also, it would be great if there was a global preference that makes all the delays behave like the "TEMPO" delay(time knob becomes beat division). Lastly(for the moment), make some other RV-500 reverbs available so you can over-write the Spring. oh wait,,, changing the behavior of the delay switch so you push and hold it, for tempo tap before it times out and becomes a bypass by default would create a more intuitive control. the mooer mod factory does this, and it's awesome.
?Question for Leon's Q&A? You do many nice demos with stereo fx (not exclusive to the me-90). However, I have always played in two-guitar bands. My rigs have always been mono. Am I overlooking something by not going stereo? My gut says stereo would be a mess and step all over the other guitarist. Your thoughts? Or maybe a better question is when to use stereo vs mono.
Where is the noise gate? I got one today and the overdrive with the 100% again it feels it dies the tone too fast, and it sounds like hate noise it’s on or something
Thanks for doing this! I have mine set up in 4CM but I was hoping I could use the ME-90 pre-amps as a second drive option. In theory that should work, with the switch at the back set to 'gtr' (cab sims bypassed) right? It sounds pretty bad though. I found it sounded best with the switch set to 'line', with an empty IR slot selected - I know that makes no sense! Also, with the switch set to 'gtr', it shouldn't make any difference which of the 4 cab sim slots you select...but it does! Something weird going on there. I also find effects like the flanger create a big volume boost when activated. This is the problem I often have with multi effects - they do weird things I don't expect...I don't need that, I have enough trouble just playing the guitar!
I've found exactly the same thing. The Line output sounds the best when plugged in a tube combo amp Something really weird is going on concerning the output.. I'm waiting for more feedback from users, because there will be
I had the same issue with the Headrush - sounded great via FRFR or 4CM but it never worked well using the modelled pre-amps into the fx return of my amp.
Yep it seems the ME-90 keeps the IR engaged in guitar-amp mode and just adds the selected 'output mode' on top of it to try and compensate. Makes no sense! I too have had better results just using a flat / blank IR in line out mode when connecting to a guitar amp and cab.
@@PedalScience I just sent mine back, it's just such a pain to get it to sound right on a clean tube amp. I suspect all the guys who demo it on You Tube pluh it in a sound card or some kind of FRFR device.
Hi Leon love your videos man. I have a Boss Katana MkII and was thinking about buying the ME and running through the power amp of the Katana. But does the ME 90 have have better effects than the MKII?
Thanks for the IR's, was going to msg you as other links are expired. I've got an ME-90 and am REALLY struggling to generate a nice driven JCM/Hard Rock tone (I have an 800, and use multiple amp vsts), this thing just isn't putting the tone out for me. Going to try some more IR's today hoping it will solve it. Any advice would be very very welcomed!
I'm almost sold on this. I want to make sure I can run my fuzz pedals into this. I'm assuming I can run them into the Effects loop, and move it to the front? I'm also assuming it has a buffered bypass. Thanks!
Looking forward to getting my CORE set up, but must say I'm bloody annoyed that BOSS haven't got it figured for the latest Apple system so I cannot use the Tone Studio. Pretty lame from BOSS...expected more there, especially in this day and age.
@boss makes some great stuff BUT they miss the boat with many of their units. Where's the stereo XLR outputs? Digitech has been doing it since the 80s. Especially on bass versions. 99% of the time the bass is sent to FOH. I use a Digitech GNX 3000 for all my instruments from violin, guitar, bass it even has a XLR microphone input and stereo line level inputs for my keys. Boss makes such great equipment except for this MAJOR shortcoming
I imagine they've made this to the lowest possible price point by removing a lot of that stuff and making it easier to understand for people used to using a simple pealboard. The GT-1000 has all the bells and whistles.
Yes but how much per mass produces unit would it really added on? Maybe 8 10 bucks? I'm sure they have enough buffer in the current price it wouldn't hurt them that bat. Or I'm sure they'd gain more in sales than lose on the XLR outputs
Based on the manual, it seems like the ME-90 has limited MIDI interaction. Would you be able to investigate and see if you could use the footswitches and expression pedal to control plugins in your DAW? Thanks for the enlightening deep dive on the ME-90!
Всё это конечно хорошо.НО!!! Для 4CM подключения нужно иметь хороший комбоусилитель или стек.Потому как перегрузы все использованы только внешние.А вот на бюджетных - это весьма сомнительный вариант.
@LeonTodd Is there a 4CM alternative for amps without an FX Loop? I've a Fender tonemaster deluxe reverb digital amp which doesn't have an FX input and just received my ME-90. Thanks!
is there a way to reduce the lag of the whammy pedal? i cant play Tom Morello because theres a lag in the whammy effect. It takes a while to get to the normal octave. for me it is a deal breaker
Can you decide where you want the mod block to go or is it designated by the effect you choose? Where is Univibe in the chain? I always put it before my dirt and preamps
@@LeonTodd awesome that’s where I would want it. I have another question, if you use preset mode, can you use different preamps and effects and it will remember the knob placements and stuff?
Hello! Thanks for the nice video. I have a question: can I plug the ME-90 directly into the input of my amp? I have a Marshall MG10G. This would be the first time playing with effects and I'm a little confused about how to connect these things together.
Hello Leon .I am looking to buy an fx processor and use it specifically on the fx loop of my tube amp for a touch of delay,reverb,chorus... any suggestion .I am into 80s hair metal lynch and stuff .thanks mate
Hey , can i assign assign the effect loop to an only one patch and so having the possibility to jump from an accoustic sim patch to a 4c satured head sound ?(please excuse my english 😢)
Hi there not sure you are still following this, but yes the ME-90 has up to 72 preset patches that are selectable with the foot pedals. Not sure an accoustic sim would sound great if your using a high gain amp. But if you connect the ME-90 direct to a mixer or powered monitor, you could use one of the ME-90's pre amps which would sound ok. You would need to change the Gt. AMP/LINE switch to LINE and this method would then not be considered a "4 cable method" as it is not connected to an amp but works great.
I just got this 2 days ago. It's OK. Not really impressed with the amp sounds. They are OK. I have not used it direct into an interface though - just through a 5150 III head and cab. I had a big problem with the unit having WAY too much reverb when plugged into the front of the amp - like 2 seconds of tail on the 1 out of 99 setting. I tried the 4-cable method and that fixed the problem - and all the modulation and delays sound way better using 4 cable. Also - the Boss Editor is a JOKE. It's pretty much exactly the same as the top of the unit with no extra hidden access to tweaking the settings on the sounds. Plus it pretty difficult to install the program and I had to print off two sheets of instructions to do it. Stuff like this was easier in 2015. Why is that Boss?? That being said - it's still a great value for the money - especially if you just want it for the effects.
Who is rocking a 4CM setup in their rig?
I wish Boss would update the GT-Pro and make it an Axe FX contender.
I will be, when Sweetwater sends mine. Which amp were you using with the ME-90? I don't remember hearing you say what brand of amp. :)
I will be when I finish rebuilding my Mother of all Amateur Boards🤘🎶
I use with a old GT8 and a handmade preamp of a 5150
I just started using it but the fun is overridden by a weird tapping or ticking noise that last for 10 or more seconds and stops. Then starts again.
I'm blown away by this new boss unit....so tempting to pick one up, just for fun.
I pre-ordered it once i saw the effects loop.
