    They want us at 220. I'm like naw, I've been doing this long enough to know better. I used to hit 250-260 regularly, but like you said, all they do is "good job, try to make 280 next time". Okay. How about no. I regularly hit 200 easy so they don't come around and give me no grief.

      The incentive thing is true, it’s not required to give an incentive. However, it also depends on your leadership team as well. I’m an Amazon Process Assisant (PA) and I work in an AFE department. I came up in this department before moving up to a Level 3 position, where I’m at now. Because of that, I understand the consistent pace and effort that goes into sorting (induct/rebin) above 1100/550 & packing above 250. If my associates are going above and beyond hitting exceptional rates on a consistent bases, whether induct, rebin or pack, I like to acknowledge that. With vendor bucks (for free break room snacks), buzz bucks (free amazon gear/gadgets) or even 15 mins added on to their break time. It’s not a pay increase, clearly, but they appreciate it for sure.

    Been working at Amazon for a couple weeks now I've noticed that about the rate. It's very dependent on what kind of orders you get and if rebin is doing their job right. There's way too many things that affect it that are outside of your control so it's best not to worry about it too much and work at a pace that's comfortable for you.

    I just started yesterday I’m doing overnight and it’s not bad. I like it better than stow but theirs alot more steps to it like replacing the tape and making sure you have enough supplies and also water for the tape machine. Luckily I work with people who are pretty chill so it’s been decent so far! I just wonder how long I’ll be able to keep to doing this though.

    • @Terrie.Nguyen
      @Terrie.Nguyen  Před 2 lety +4

      yes, as soon as i get to my station i would check all of my supplies (water for tape, 2 rolls of tape, boxes filled, SPOO tape). yes i've worked the night shift during the holidays a few times and it was so much more chill than the day shift. there were times when they would tell me to stop packing and just relax for 30 mins or more because the "wall" was low on items. we're standing around waiting on the rebinner to fill it back up so we can start packing again.

    I work at a non-amazon ecomm warehouse (we also ship to our retail stores). But for now, I just do ecomm packing.
    I don't know if we have incentives for packing faster, but our KPI is 40 boxes an hour and I've been hitting 20-30 for my first week, which apparently sucks.
    So I'm trying to find ways of getting faster and more efficient.
    In terms of differences, we use a tape gun and we receive all the items in the box, we just have to wrap any glass and bag it and use void fill paper, tape up the box and sticker it, plus hazmat or battery stickers if we need them.

    Wow I'm glad I saw this video cause for the past few weeks I've been killing myself trying to make these rates, also, my wall always gets "out of control" like this annoying PA likes to say 😑 😒 one of the ambassador had given me a tip to assemble boxes and be done within 30s.... so I'm always rushing and injuring myself to be done within 30s (I've broken few nails and hurt my fingers for banging it against the wall) 😭 and no matter how fast I worked i was still getting same results, I'll be green for first quarter then by second to last I'll get in yellow because now the sorters are sorting more and I'm on the other side worrying about my walk not getting "outta control"

    • @Terrie.Nguyen
      @Terrie.Nguyen  Před 3 lety +10

      yes, when you understand how the process work you won't be taken advantage of. many factors for a blown wall, it's not always a "slow packer". matter a fact it's usually due to neglect of a wall (not all packers are at their stations, or no packers at that wall for periods of time). PA can see which walls are full in real time. if any wall is full (blown out) it's always the managements fault...their whole existence at amazon is to manage the process...

    0:50 - I think, may be wrong. But the tape dispenser company, have dispensers for a single roll or dubble roll. My guess is that they use the same interface and just add the extra holder/cutter if you buy the dubble roll dispenser, and therefor there is 2 sets of each color so it can work with 2 rolls (one strip of buttons for each roll). May be cheaper for them to buy one inferace instead of 2 different ones. My guess.

    • @jeremyf9124
      @jeremyf9124 Před 2 lety

      Yeah, at my location (SMF1, Sacramento, CA) the tape dispensers are wider and can hold 2 rolls. The left roll is light brown tape. I think this is used to fix a box. The right dispenser has the black Amazon advertising tape. A sticker is put on the machine’s top to indicate this. It’s nice to have 2, no need to stop if a roll runs out.

    For me it was all about learning your wall, based off what your screen showed, you should know whether to turn left or right depending the section of the wall and up or down depending on which row. As well as how fast you can build a box and pull your items from the chute. Learning the location of all your boxes really help as well. I averaged a rate of 360+. Highest rate I hit was a 476 in AFE. Now I am a Process Assistant for pack side in AFE and I enjoy what I do.

    I've worked at AFE for 2.5 yrs now. Rates are variable for us based on size (for pack) and path (for picking). Also, there are scammy ways for some employees to get artificially higher rates (often by being logged into indirect by a supervisor or friend who manages that because you're part of their favorites). I've seen people go sloooooow and make inhumanly high rates and people go fast and make low rates.
    Amazon bosses will rarely tell you what your rate is supposed to be at because it's variable and no one can track it accurately other than their computer system but, you will be held accountable for making rate.
    It's not a hard job and once you're used to the physical aspect of it, it's very easy but can be tedious for some.
    A tip I've learned long ago is to IGNORE RATES. Just get into a nice flow / zone and work smoothly and consistently.

      Whether everyone is under expected or everyone is over expected, the bottom 3% still get the write up.
      Expected rate is determined to be usually around the site or regional previous 3-week average +10%

      Other miscellaneous info:
      1) Dildos from China are usually unscannable
      2) Sanitizers and Wipes help get stuck on spoo stickers off the counters
      3) MASTERPACKS:
      a) masterpacks may contain a barcode for one unit on the outside of the box, which passes the scanner, and gets packed
      b) the description for the item cannot be fully seen, so sometimes you end up packing masterpacks
      4) After you clock in, there is an IDLE TIME counting against you until you sign into a station. It shows up as a light blue bar in the manager's laptops. That's why it's important to get your I.D. scanned when a higher up takes you somewhere to do something else. The blue bar tells them you are clocked in, somewhere in the building and wasting time doing nothing.

There are no D boxes though, but there will be a E 220 or something. I hit the E button (instead of Auto) to get the right width of tape for the bottom. After scanning the Sp00 sticker, the machine spits out a “D” length tape, which tends to be a little too long. So, I have to be careful it’s applied evenly. 1 tip I would add, in making sure boxes are upside down, at least currently the tape guides will also show you-the letter for the tape length is always up for up… so when you build the box bottom side first, you should be seeing letters upside down as you first fold the flaps.

      I work AFE and singles pack, it all depends on the management and facility. Our facility is apparently, according to management, usually top in North America as far as rates go in afe pack, so they set our goal to 220. It was at 180 when I first started. All I can say is treat it like a marathon, not a sprint. Of course, you could get sent into a different department as well. Honestly though, it's an easy job, the bad thing is the monotony and standing on your feet all day, which you will get used to so no big deal there.

    You need to aim for over 200. Orders do not count until they clear SLAM. If your order kicks out it goes against your rate and doing the bare minimum does not give you any wiggle room. Packing over 200 will keep you safe because you have wiggle room if your order kicks out at SLAM to keep rate.

    • @Terrie.Nguyen
      @Terrie.Nguyen  Před 2 lety +4

      great question. rates are typically called out every hour over the intercom system for your area. the managers call out the rates for packers and Inducters. for whatever reason the rebinners have a screen shows their rates every 5 minutes. if you're a packer, the rebinner is on the other side of the wall. in AFE area there are usually 3 packers per wall for every 1 rebinner. if you pack fast and the rebinner can't keep up they may move you to a different wall that is full. they may also change your rebinner to someone faster as well. now in an area called SINGLE PACK, you're packing whatever is on the conveyer belt. the single item will be in a yellow tote. there is no rebinner or "wall of items to pack" in SINGLE PACK.

    Hey there, not sure if you’re able to answer as this video is a bit old. I’ve been working at an Amazon FC in outbound shipdock for about a month now. When I started I wanted to be a packer, but obviously I can’t choose my department. I’m considering an internal transfer later on, but I’m worried that if I’m transferred to pack - I don’t want to be working in another role such as waterspider/rebin/sorting etc. I want to primarily work in packing orders. How do I guarantee a position with that role? At the beginning of the shift do the PA’s assign everyone different positions or positions they want to put you in (because they want you there or because you’ve worked in something similar before). Please let me know, thanks!

    This may sound like a dumb question, but when you run out of tape or boxes, do you just tell someone or is there a certain area where they have supplies to refill these? I’ve never worked in a warehouse and I’m considering applying for packing.

    • @Terrie.Nguyen
      @Terrie.Nguyen  Před 3 lety +35

      there's are areas where you can go get supplies like tape, and boxes. Now there are also people who are walk around and replenish supplies too, but you can't rely solely on them. they may be busy, swamped, or just work slow. There's a button you can press to call them to bring supplies to you as well...but sometimes you wait like 5-10 minutes which hurts your rates. so if you run out of supplies before they can get to you, just borrow some from your neighbor until they can replenish you. or if the supplies are close by you can go get it yourself. hope that helps.

    What about code scio or sico or soci.... Its one off those... I am a packer.... Outbound.... Mixed... And get a lot of those packages... Wondering if I am packaging it correctly. It was my first day yesterday 7 April 2022... I just leave them in the box they come in and pack them in a larger box by overriding the system. I don't open the boxes the item came in just keep them in the box...is this overriding to get a box that fit correct.

      SIOC stands for “ships in own container”. SOIC you just scan them and send them on their way! I Think in AFE there was an additional step on the screen but i forgot what it was. you do not need to put it inside another box.

    The 2 different sides for tape is because 1 side of the tape dispenser is for amazon color tape... The other is for amazon marketplace tape which is just brown tape...

      there wasn't a definite number to the rate. it fluctuated a lot. yes if you're in AFE packing and you want to be the top packers or make rate easily get the stations on the outside of the wall. if you're the middle station it's extremely easy, but it's harder to get those high rates. glad our videos are helpful. thanks for commenting. leave tips if you have any
