    Franz Stigler's commanding officer had told him and his pilots that if he were to ever hear of them shooting at a pilot in a parachute he would kill them himself. When Franz came upon the wounded B-17 he needed just one more shoot down to get the Knights Cross (hence the lyrics "Saying goodbye to the cross he deserved" line), but seeing the plane in the condition it was in and the crew in bad shape he viewed this as being no different than a helpless pilot in a parachute and would not fire. Instead he tried to get them to land and when they refused he decided to escort the B-17 over the coast preventing the AA guns from firing on them.

    "Fictitious license?" Sabaton always researches about the events they sing about, before writing their songs. There is nothing "fictitious" about any song they sing.

      when i noted that i hadn't yet realized this was about one true instance-there are many stories of enemies honorably assisting each other, or at least taking pity on each other, and it was not yet evident to me that this was not just a genericized example of that. i never look into a song or band before listening so that whatever reaction i have-appropriate, accurate, insightful, or none of the above-is genuine

    • @globus9710

      Lot of things they sing about are more of a myth. Like Battle of Wizna where exactly 18 germans were killed and what stop them for 3 days was actually a traffic jam

    "I don't think this kind of thing is as common as this guy is trying to make it."
    It's the fact that occurrences like this are so UNCOMMON, that Sabaton thinks it deserves more recognition.

    • @grimm516
      @grimm516 Před 2 lety +3

      I do agree with your point kinda, I would sat it was more common that pilots in ww1&2 spared enemy pilots from their own guns, but in this case it's probably the only situation where a Luftwaffe pilots activity helped an enemy by escorting them sparing the b-17 from the AAguns of the Atlantic wall

    6:25 the line "he risked his live two times that day" was for the German Pilot because he flyed beside the B-17 so the B17 wasnt shot by German Anit Aircraft Fire, but that could lead to getting shot by, by the B-17 Crew and also if someone Reported him he would be sentenced as Deserter and be killed by the Nazis...

    I've been checking out a bunch of Sabaton reactions, especially to this one because it is such a powerful production (and story). Your's is one of the best - mostly because you didn't quite know what to expect, slowly realized its awesomeness, didn't see the twist coming but reacted in a way so as I was looking forward to your coming reaction :) Great stuff, will check future Sabaton reactions here for sure. As an American I recommend you check out "Lost battalion", "Screaming eagles" and "Primo Victoria". As a history buff check out "Last stand", "40:1", "Rorkes drift", "The Attack of the Dead Men", "Uprising", "Aces in excile"... hell, do 'em all!

  • @jregns
    @jregns Před 2 lety +9

    Nice reaction, but I think you're missing half the story points when you stop the video mid-sentence and explain what you think is going on, also not backing up before you start again. E.g. the line "Risked his life, two times that day" was not about the bombing runs, but the fact that 1) Stigler escorted the enemy (risk of being reported for treason) and 2) they passed the German coastal air defense line (and he could have been shot down himself), before he saluted and left the B-17 when they were safe. Sabaton have their own History channel here on CZcams as well, where they explain each song and the history of the events they portray further. All Sabaton songs are based on actual historical events, nothing is made up. You should react to "Bismarck" and "En livstid i krig" (a lifetime of war) in Swedish, Live from Gothenburg and "Christmas Truce". Make sure you always have captions on and watch the entire videos. Greetings from Sweden! (Btw, Sabaton never block reactors!) 🤘😎🤘

      thanks very much for watching. yes, i've been known to make mistakes, but that's how you know it's genuine. a scripted "reaction" (like i see in many movie reacters) would be perfect and make accurate predictions. Bismarck is being produced TODAY, actually, and En Livstig i Krig is just waiting it's turn on release. if you watch it, forgive me for my mistakes THERE as well! Christmas truce is on the schedule.
      as a side note, sabaton has never *blocked* me, but they do claim any ad revenue from the videos. so while i get immense joy from making sabaton videos, and get lots of views, that's about it.

    Not sure if you knew before you started the video, that this was a true story. So it looks a bit...bad, when you make jokes about their situation. This actually happened. Not really a laughing matter, there's no jokes anywhere in the story. Not sure if you continued to make light of the fate and the war, because I stopped watching before the (great) song even started. Kinda got my impression that this channel aint taking serious matters...serious. But at least you managed to stay serious with the usual plug "dont forget to subscribe, and there's also patreon, and everything else that can make me money by doing no original content myself"
    ..sigh..
    Well, best of luck to ya bud. Do remember that these people were at least indirectly responsible for the life you're having today, so again, you still find War and death a joking matter? Just ask yourself, I dont care for the answer. I already heard enough.

    • @JammersMetalMischief
      @JammersMetalMischief  Před 2 lety

      What are you even talking about? You concerned me so i went back to the video, which was recorded months ago-and there's no aspect of making fun of anything. My exclamation of "Charlie Brown!"? This one story is true, yes, but a lot of media try to make it out like every battle had these situations. You're the only person of about 50 that said anything like that, who remotely saw that in the video. Some said how inaccurate they thought i was, but no one but YOU got the impression you did.
      If you'd bothered putting away your ire, and self importance, you'd have seen that i acknowledged all that and gave both pilots their due. You'd have seen i was a soldier and understood.
      You didn't know i was myself a soldier. Soldiers make fun of anything and everything. Its understood. It's a given. It's what's done.
      Where's *your* DD214?
      If you'd had gotten over yourself and finished the video you'd have seen Joyita Theren-Stigler and my reaction to her praising Sabaton, and if you'd looked in any of the comments instead of stalking off like a fucking baby, you'd have seen that THEREN-STIGLER HERSELF COMMENTED AND THANKED ME FOR WHAT I SAID.
      So fuck off, be well, and don't fuckin come back.
