    You can tell Steve was off his game here.
    He had something on his mind because you could see the effort in concentration he was exhibiting.
    He did get in a good Steve Allen zinger with "it's just another case of a stuck window".
    Jayne was not very good but a delight.
    I love these two.

    Ludden is really sharp, to realize so quickly that the doctor heard salami as Salome.

    • @maxdecphoenix
      @maxdecphoenix Před 3 lety +7

      He's also really sharp in that he legitimately remembered virtually all the guests names, occupations and hometowns. Rarely was it, but I've seen him catch himself saying the wrong town or name and apologize to the guest. Like he REAAALLY tried to remember that stuff and be sincere, it wasn't just fluff in the first few seconds of the show. I don't think after hundreds of episodes and thousands of guests i could give that much of a shit about another face or even be able to remember it for 3 seconds, but Allen really seems to have.
      And his ability to just be cordial and sincere to everyone was palpable. I've never seen anyone so amiable. Not even Sajak or Trebek.

    • @infonut
      @infonut Před rokem +1

      @@maxdecphoenix I agree. He took the game and time VERY seriously because he wanted those people to win as much as they could.
      And yet...
      I CAN'T STAND his demeanor when he cuts guests off. I know it's for a good and honest reason but he can be extremely rude sometimes. I always interpreted it as not letting any guest try and steal his thunder on HIS show. But that's just the bitch in me I suppose because, honeslly, I still think he was the best host.
      Maybe SOME celebrities just shouldn't play game shows.

    Love watching these Password videos, thank you! I find some of the comments so interesting, mainly because many people criticize the clues given by contestants and celebrities based on TODAY, not based on the mid-60s! Something I find fascinating is that the players and Allen Ludden all speak correct (American) English. The pronunciation is more precise than today generally and the overuse of the word "like" - as seen and heard today - is non-existent!

  • @danieldawg100
    @danieldawg100 Před 6 lety +15

    I agree about Allen Ludden constantly warning Jayne Meadows about her using hand gestures.But truth be told,all the contestants,before this particular episode and continuing episodes knew that there were NO consequences for breaking the game rules.

    First time I have heard that name for a tuba myself, I would have been lost like Jayne.

    • @lynnturman8157
      @lynnturman8157 Před 3 lety +1

      A sousaphone is a type of tuba that was invented for marching bands. Tubas are too heavy to carry around while you're marching so they invented the sousaphone. The tubing goes over your shoulder making it much lighter.

    • @verity3616
      @verity3616 Před rokem +1

      Sousa is famous for 'stars and stripes forever.' He wrote tons of marches and wanted the tuba to be featured so the portable version of the instrument was invented for him. I think the good doctor was hoping the clue of 'Sousa' in the name would give it away as tuba even if someone wasn't familiar with the term sousaphone. But even for the 60's that's sort of a 'band kid' clue.

    Jayne Meadows was as big a pain in the ass as was Carol Burnett and Betsy Palmer for never shutting up when only allowed to give a one-word clue. Three real prima donnas who always wanted to be the centre of attention. Jayne's husband Steve Allen looked to be mortified and when Jayne looked over at him on a few occasions he never looked at her out of frustration. Even the lovely Alan Ludden was exasperated with her incessant yapping.
