    I love all kinds of bulldogs from APBT’s, American bulldogs, Alapahas, Southern whites and everything in between.

    Pretty solid
    The timeline I hear pretty commonly is post civil war.
    Story A: APBT was created using import blood “only”
    Story b: APBT was created using Gamest domestic stock and some imported stock. Back cross, line and in breed there after
    I think B makes more sense.
    As you pointed out APBT was used to save the AMBD, but sure it was being crossed prior to (1870s) What was domestic stock pre imports? Well many argue what would later be known as the AMBD or southern white an other game dogs of the period
    Imop it would hard to fathom a dog man would completely start his yard over from scratch back then.
    It makes more sense when and if they could get an import
    Cross it in
    Anyway my opinion

    I was biased against bulldogs until I got a pup I was told was something else. Turns out he's mostly pit. He's rough and has sharp edges but he's worth the trouble. Best dog in the world.

      Also, something I didn’t know up until a few years back was you can trace Boston Terries and APBT back to the same exact litters if you go back far enough. For a while they were very similar within some strains of the APBT it would’ve still been true in Stubby’s lifetime but he would’ve been alive during the tail end of the similarities in my opinion. The Boston Bulldog in the early 1900’s truly resembles todays Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

    Great video again but why is it that standard AB breeders get a free pass when its almost certain they outcrossed. Painter, Scott and Matthews are all believed on their word but Johnson is seen as a pariah by most standard AB breeders.

    • @prideofthesouthlandkennels
      @prideofthesouthlandkennels  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Well I can’t speak for Joe Painter or Alan Scott, if they say they didn’t do it then I have to take their word. Now Don Matthews, 100% admitted to having full knowledge of the APBT and Amstaff being used to create his black hybrid bloodline. He didn’t do the initial cross but he was aware of it and ran with it. He will admit what he was part of. John D Johnson I never got a chance to speak to, but he admitted to using the West Champs High Hope dog which was what we call an English Bulldog over here. I think they have dropped the word English now with AKC and are just called Bulldog. Other breeds have been speculated such as Saint Bernard but no one that I know of has ever seen that breed pop up on a DNA test. I also, typically deal with Standard only folks though.

    • @prideofthesouthlandkennels
      @prideofthesouthlandkennels  Před 6 měsíci +2

      I think APBT is in every bloodline of American Bulldog at some point or another to some degree whether it be big or small. I do however believe that at times it wasn’t done intentionally. Meaning, dogs were just added based off phenotype with no documentation. When they rounded them dogs up to “save the breed” I say they almost certainly used a dog with APBT in it if not an APBT.

    • @bulldogjoe1804
      @bulldogjoe1804 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@prideofthesouthlandkennels I salute mr Matthews for being honest but I still think he should not have been allowed to call those crosses AB. My understanding is he used some black hybrids but he also used a black Staff to create his black standard dogs.
      The S. Bernard story is false claim I think but I do get it when you see some of the giants some Johnson AB breeders have.
      Some standard AB breeders here in Europe have been accused of outcrossing to Great Danes because of the size of some standard AB here.
      But like you said there is no one with actual DNA prove of this.

    • @bulldogjoe1804
      @bulldogjoe1804 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@prideofthesouthlandkennels Yes I agree that without the APBT we would not have the amazing AB.

      @@bulldogjoe1804- he refers to one of other breeds he used as Staff but I asked him and he said it was Amstaff. He did have some SBT’s though. I tried to get one from him but it never worked out with his breedings. Who knows though, just going by what he told me.
      Yea I kind of tend to agree with not adding stuff and being able to register it as the same breed. I bought in to the black American Bulldogs and had 4 from that particular line. They wasn’t anything close to what I needed but were great dogs and would’ve been suited more for hog work. They were some of the best put together dogs I’ve ever personally owned though.

    I don't care what blood my dog's got in him but he happened to be a 100% APBT (from a shelter no less) so I thought I ought to research. 3 years later and I still get in a mood to seek videos like this. Stupid question I'm sure but why pin that guy's tirade?

    • @prideofthesouthlandkennels
      @prideofthesouthlandkennels  Před 5 měsíci

      Usually when I pin the comment and everyone can see it, the commenter take it down or apologizes. I just get tired of hearing stuff like that and it gives other people an opportunity to debate them. I had a long conversation with him on one of my posts and actually by the end of it he was a lot nicer and apologetic. His heart and thought process was in the right place but he basically took it out on me because I enjoy dogs. He’s against irresponsible dog owners who’s dogs end up attacking people and he’s against the whole fur mom and fur dad thing with people treating their dogs like humans. I told him I agreed with him and gave him a perspective of dogs he ended up agreeing with. I pinned this before we had that conversation but it’s up to him if he wants to delete his comment or not.

      @@prideofthesouthlandkennels Yeah they're like republicans and democrats, honestly. Both furparents and dog abusers are two extreme sides of the same awful coin. I love my dog. I spoil him rotten... for a dog. He gets treats but I balance his meals out accordingly. He gets to play but if he's irresponsible, he knows it. Not by violence but by disappointment. There's a way to deal with dogs and anthropomorphizing them or outright beating them ain't it. Ever.
      I had a hunch that was what you were doing (which is why I didn't comment under his post) but I thought I'd ask to make sure.
