He's getting the job done but he looks damn awkward while doing it. He reminds me of rec hockey when a team's goalie gets hurt and one of the other skaters has to put on the gear and play goal for the first time. They're not trying to be pretty, instead a lot of spinning and flopping as they just try to get their body in front of the shot. He defiantly has potential though once he can overcome the nerves and not have to stop so many pucks right at the goal line and is able to control the rebounds better.

Mike Smith is playing the fastest team in the league by far. He is doing all he can do. As an Avs fan everyone who was watching knows Nichushkin should've had a hatty but Smith seized those opportunities with some mind blowing saves. That Compher goal really sealed the deal. It was a heartbreaker for Oilers fans when in all reality they had the momentum swinging there way and they should of just scored when Bouchard just hit the post. I’m an Av’s fan and don’t have much hate for the Oilers for the exception of Kane. Smith has actually been decent. He’s made some huge saves but it does seem like he’s letting in some of the softer goals so I understand the frustration. And McDavid is awesome, there’s no two ways about it. The Av’s defense is just doing a great job of shutting him down. Hoping Kane gets suspended so we can try to close out the series without another unnecessary injury.

Game 1 they lost by 2* which 1 was an empty netter, this game lost by 2* one was also an empty netter, game 4 they lost in OT... The worst they got beat was 4-0 in game 2, like don't get me wrong Avs were better but 1 goal difference really made up 3 out of the 4 games... How's that outclassed?

Nichushkin around the net, around the boards moving towards the blue line, fires a hard pinpoint pass while facing the other way through Makar's legs onto the tape of a streaking Landeskog! No goal, but that pass came from loaded talent. Watch that in slow mo! Another level baby! I wish there were awesome passes highlights like this one that didn't result in goals, mixed in with goals too. That was one of the coolest, sneakiest, hard precision passes one will see. 7:23 looks like a good pass from the boards to center ice and RUH ROH, Mikko's stick says no, I'll take that and just pop that on in. :)

Once again, Smith's erratic play was the difference. He made some spectacular, highlight reel saves, but didn't make the simple ones. The deflected goal would have never gone in had he just held the post. And Compher's goal coming out of the penalty box should have never gone in. Even on the second goal, he was swimming in the crease, instead of being square to the shooter. He might have some good games, but far too often, the Oilers either win, in spite of him, or they lose because of him.
And this is what happens when the GM chooses not to kick the tires and find a decent starter and just hopes for the best.

Now Oil have a disgruntled goaltender who wants out (at least would have been a great backup for next season) and a 40 year old who probably will retire. Spot on....that's THE play that decided the series. The rest is now academic. There were multiple play options by the D man (Bourchard) but the bottom line is whichever you choose, you CANNOT lose that play and allow the guy to get an open shot. Its a failure is not an option play, and when you fail on those type of plays, its usually fatal. No excuses because the D-man had the inside track and got there first.

because the Oilers have a LOUSY defense and why anyone with any hockey smarts KNEW they would not get past the AVS. It's going to be a sweep. AVS want the time off and they need to show next team they can win on the road and to rest. Oilers know it's over, so they will not put in a big effort because it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to win 4 games. Next year will be no better. Till they get a DEFENSE and a Goalie, they are a finals team.

Another example of big money ruining the integrity of the game. McMuffin collects an obscenely high salary and a big bonus on Canada Day of $10,000000. When you make that kind of money, what do you care if the team wins or loses? Answer: You don't and he doesn't quite obviously...

Probably because Koskinen is not much better. And there's also the misguided hope that Smith will bounce back from a bad game. This game proved what a lot of people have been saying for the last few years. He's too hit and miss. He'll make the amazing saves, like robbing Nichuskin twice on what could have been his third and fourth goals; and then he'll allow some worst goals, like the defected shot that would have been stopped had he simply held the post, instead of jumping.
