Someone who goes to look and read the source material has likely read others or pondered them. This is just a short interview and it's probably edited to not show the full thing. He is wondering about the mysteries of the universe and says so in this very interview. To take a book only a few thousand years old when the universe itself is almost 14 BILLION years old is basically a god of the gaps situation.

    I find Skarsgard's comments particularly insightful and striking. It is a fantastic way of summarizing what many an agnostic has struggled to get across to certain intensely religious proselytizers: Life is too complex and beautiful to be attributed to such a laughably simplistic answer as "Oh, a magical being in the sky made us."
    People look at figures like Thor and Zeus as magical and fantastic, but, fundamentally, how are these archaic belief systems so different from the Christian deity?

    • @headshotfisken104
      @headshotfisken104 Před rokem +1

      Because nobody is worshipping Thor and Zeus and everybody agrees that they are completely fictional

    • @CEShannVfB
      @CEShannVfB Před rokem +1

      @@headshotfisken104 First, there are absolutely still pagan groups that worship both the Norse and classical Greek pantheons. They may be fringe, but "nobody is worshipping" them is categorically false.
      Second, it took time and significant sociocultural changes to make them agree that they are fictional. Greeks in the 3rd bce were just as certain of the reality of their gods as a modern Christian would be of the Judeo-Christian god. There is every possibility that a millennia from now, if humanity remains a "thing" people will speak of abrahamic gods much in the same way as we do of the gods of antiquity.
      So I say again, there isn't much distinguishing between the two. There is as little evidence to support the existence of Freya and Hera as there is of 'God.'

Believing in God doesn't make you ignorant, rejecting to learn about the world around you is what makes oyu ignorant. Alot of Atheist (not all) sometimes see themselves as the only ones one are curious about the world and wish to explore life, which isn't true. If god is not willing to prevent evil, then he is not all-good.
    If god is both willing and able to prevent evil, then why does evil exist?
    If god created everything then that means he created evil. And if that is the case what does that say about god?
    I imagine he and the other Skarsgårds have wondered this very thing.

    Don’t know much about the Quran, but to say there is no love in the Bible? What? How is an innocent man giving up his life for a broken world not love?

    • @Draugh39
      @Draugh39 Před 6 lety +2

      Why would a human sacrifice be required to mend a "broken world"? What kind of "love" is it to say that you demand the death of someone in order to change your mind. That kind of "love" I will happily do without.

    • @folklore_of_beth
      @folklore_of_beth Před 6 lety +1

      Draugh39 It is set up that way. If you sin, you pay the consequences, but if an innocent takes their(our) place we would t have to suffer that. I don’t know what’s not to get. It’s in our favor so I don’t know why you would “do without”. It’s like if someone offered to pay for all of your groceries. They get nothing but the bill and you get groceries. Why would you say no thanks?

    • @Draugh39
      @Draugh39 Před 6 lety

      This is scapegoating. Which means that you do not require the the person that "sinned" to change, but instead take someone utterly innocent and sacrifice that person (or goat for that matter) as an offering to an entity that apparently approve of human sacrifices. We saw this in many primitive religions, where an innocent virgin woman was killed in a ritual sacrifice to appease the gods. It was wrong then, it is just as wrong here. The whole mentality behind scapegoating is wrong, so it is in Christianity as well as it was among the other primitive religions, because that is where this mindset comes from. (And since the Bible approve of killing young women as sacrifices to the Christian god, I see no difference between these religions (C.f. Judges 11:29-39)

    That's an absurd argument. You are equating government with civilization. Correlation does not equal causation, at one point in history people made the same argument of slavery. You don't like slavery, well then go live out in the wilderness...
    And in the same vein, if you're a shop keeper in a neighbourhood where the mafia forces you to pay protection money, will you then say that it's the shop keeper who is at fault for being in that neighbourhood?
    The government is simply the largest mafia

    But he never states that he believes there is a creator? What you say you believe in sounds like Intelligent Design and as a concept, that is basically just a substitute for the word "God" created by americans trying to incorporate religion in school.
    Stellan Skarsgård could just as easily mean that he does not believe in any creator at all, he just finds the evolution of the human race too complex for us ever to understand.

    Try Buddhism! You can interpret it into more traditional concept with the believe in a God or you can see it as a philosophy? Its either way and their is no Buddhist forcing you into their interpretation
